In a rare pilot gig, feature helmer Jonathan Mostow (U-571, Terminator 3) has signed on to direct and executive produce TNT‘s action drama pilot The Last Ship, executive produced by another action movie director-producer, Michael Bay.
Based on the popular novel by William Brinkley, The Last Ship centers on the crew of a naval destroyer who, after a global catastrophe decimates the earth’s population, are forced to confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they are among the only survivors. Without A Trace creator Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane wrote the script and are exec producing with Mostow and Platinum Dunes’ Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. In TV, WME-repped Mostow previously directed the finale of the Emmy-winning HBO mini-series From The Earth To The Moon.

Jonathan Mostow actually directed a pilot called THEM several years back. FOX picked up Sarah Connor Chronicles instead because of the Terminator recognition, but THEM was truly a spectacular pilot.
WOW! Sounds *VERY* high-concept. Of course with success on shows like ‘Falling Skues’m it’s no shock they’re moving past quirky buddy procedurals (finally)
That said, sounds a lot like the basic premise of that new ABC drama w/the navel crew, with a bit more of a post-apocaliptic vibe…
It sounds a lot like ‘Battlestar Galactica – on Earth’ to me. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.
Love this novel, can’t wait to see it realized. TNT seems like a good home for it.
What was the logline of them? Btw last resort/last ship… Both about navy ships setting up a new civilization about decline of society…. there can be only one! May the best show win.
Sounds cool. Who are the stars ?
I know that handsome Eric Dane, formerly McSteamy on Grey’s Anatomy is one of the main stars. And I hear he’s super nice!
