UPDATE, 12 PM: The numbers for all of yesterday’s daytime syndicated talk shows are in. Not surprisingly, the 10th-season premiere of Ellen featuring guests Patrick Dempsey, Pink and the Fierce Five, came up on top with a 3.0 household rating/8 share in the metered markets, 50% time period improvement vs. last year, and a 2.2/12 in women 25-54, the highest-ever demo number for an Ellen season premiere. Kelly & Michael (2.9 HH, 1.7 W25-54) was second, followed by the fourth-season premiere of Dr. Oz (2.8, 1.6) and Katie (2.8, 1.6). Dr. Oz was No. 1 in cumed household ratings. Ricki Lake (0.8, 0.4) was dead last among all new and returning talk shows, with Jeff Probst (1.0, 0.7) doing only a little better. Yesterday’s rankings should carry an asterisk as top talk show Dr. Phil was a repeat and will launch its new season today.
PREVIOUS 8 AM: Kat
ie Couric‘s new syndicated talk show Katie got off to a strong start yesterday with a 2.8 household rating/8 share in the 56 U.S. metered markets to lead the pack of new daytime talk shows by a large margin. It equaled the highest daytime talk show opener in the last decade, Rachael Ray, in 2006 (2.8), the best premiere since Dr. Phil‘s 5.2 rating in September 2002. Katie, which featured guest Jessica Simpson, built on its lead-in by 12% and improved its time period year-to-year by 22%. (The show replaced soap General Hospital in about half of the country, with the soap now serving as its lead-in.)

Of the other new talk show premieres, Steve Harvey, which debuted last Tuesday, was No. 2 with a 1.5/4. The opener of Jeff Probst yesterday was on the low side (1.0/3), while Ricki Lake (0.8/2) trailed the pack. Lake’s show was affected by the retrans spat between Tribune and Cablevision, which impacts 40% of the nation’s top market, New York. In its sophomore season debut on a new set, Anderson drew a 1.3 household rating, up slightly from the lackluster 1.1 rating for its series premiere last fall. The reigning top-rated daytime talk show, Dr. Phil, opens its 11th season today after it was pre-empted for the U.S. Open tennis championship yesterday. The season premiere of CBS’ The Talk, which featured its hosts makeup-free, delivered a series high 2.6/8 in the East Coast, Central and Mountain markets. It was pre-empted for the U.S. Open on the West Coast where it will air today. Final averages will be available tomorrow.

I try watch show for 10 minutes Can’t get into it
She sucks I turn to Steve Harvey on NBC 4
BOY ABC sucks if ABC really give rat you know about viewers bring back One life to live
Those days are gone forever. With just a few Soaps remaining they will go the way of the LP, 8 track, Betamax, and VHS. It’s only a matter of a few years now.
I will not be watching Katie, I can not stomach her.
I am so sick of these cheap, boring talk/reality shows. Some are fine, but it has become overkill. It disgusts me at the lack of creativity and talent that is no longer present on tv.
First off, the set was hideous! There’s about 30 people in the audience and the entire place looks like its made of plastic! The colors and the theme were also horrible. And don’t get me started about her Matt Lauer opening segment. She lost me right there.
She’s a good journalist but I don’t see her as a “daytime” personality.
That was like watching an infomercial for Weight Watchers…shameful for that to be the first show how much did they pay for the integration? NOTHING!!!! Jesus I would fire the entire booking department
Why would you fire the booking dept? Do you think it was them that booked Jessica Simpson? Sounds like you know nothing about how talk shows work. She was booked probably by Zucker.
Watched The Jeff Probst Show, I think the show has real promise. He is really good at it.
Katie was superb as I expected…..Probst will struggle for sure
So thrilled for Katie!
Go Katie, can’t keep a good woman down. It’s so wrong for people to spit venom at her. She had nothing to do with the soap cancellations. I’ve always loved Katie and Im thrilled she started out so well.
The one thing Katie could do to improve her image on her show: STOP TALKING LIKE A TEEN-AGER!
Michael Strahan is no Regis and Katie sure is no Oprah, so chalk up two more losers for the geniuses at Disney. Katie better get Streisand immedeately, followed by the pope. Her “girlfriend” act is a pale imitation of Oprah. Speaking of pale, I saw more blacks on camera at the Republican convention than I did in Katie’s audience yesterday. Her only hope is being a semi-gutsy interviewer when she wants to be and maybe the whole CBS thing burned her out or she’s too rich to care. You can only coast so long on showing the world what a lightweight Sarah Palin is, but that was 4 years ago. Oprah wore well over time. Not gonna happen with Katie.
Katie was simply boring!!! To think the best she could do for her debut was Jessica Simpson is pathetic. Sheryl Crow?? Who cares. Set was tacky and cheap and Katie didn’t come off fresh and new in any way!!!! Disappointing.
The real story here is that Dr Oz’s ratings are still up and that is because he deserves it. His show is the best daytime show out there. He is informative but at the same time entertaining. Katie will come down to reality once people continue to see that her show is blah. Reason for her good ratings is because people were curious about her show. I watched because I wanted to see. But now know I won’t continue to watch. Love to see her ratings from day two. And then week two…
Love how Katie still gets hate for outing Sarah Palin as an idiot. Get over it! LMAO. Haven’t checked her show out yet but will today! Even over 50, that woman stays girlish and cute (Katie, not Palin). Love her!
I was looking forward to Katie show but was not impressed. 15 min of J S was More than enough, I had to find another channel as I was bored… Same thing happened on two more shows….. Anderson Cooper show was far better.
katie show stinks
