The premiere of the newly-rechristened Live! With Kelly And Michael yesterday scored an impressive 3.9 household rating/13 share in the metered markets. The show, which introduced former NFL star Michael Strahan as Kelly Ripa’s new permanent co-host, was up 24% from last season’s season premiere. Live! equaled its second-highest rating since Regis Philbin’s departure, which scored a 7.3 household rating in November. It was the show’s highest rating in 9 years on the first Tuesday after Labor Day.

The only new syndicated talk show to premiere yesterday was NBCUniversal’s Steve Harvey. Going early worked, as the show posted a solid 1.5/4 in the metered market households. That was a 50% improvement of the time period vs last September and up 25% from its lead-in. Among women 18-49, Steve Harvey (0.9/5) was up 80% from last year. For comparison, the highest-profile new talk show last fall, Anderson, debuted with a 1.1 household rating and a 0.6 in Women 25-54 and proceeded to get a renewal. The other high-profile talk show newcomers this year, Katie, Jeff Probst and Ricki Lake, premiere next Monday.

Kelly I totally love your show!! But when you made a comment about your hair cuts, I was a bit offend. I cancer survivor. I was diagnoised with brain cancer in 2005. My hair grew back but very little. I have to wear wigs. So please just be happy you have your own hair!
KELLY: Like you, I thought that the “cat in the nursing home is a precurser to death” was the product of someone’s overactive imagination . I believed that until my mother had a stroke. I stayed with her in the nursing home from the time she was admitted in April until she passed away in June. There was a resident cat who lived there and “it” PRIMARILY roamed the administration section of the home. I was aware that it wandered on the nursing floor occasionally, but didn’t think anything about it. Two days before my mother died, the cat came into mother’s room. My mother could hand-feed a man-eating dog but she detested cats! I kept running the cat out of the room but it kept coming back. It would lay at the head but underneath the bed. When my mother passed away the cat finally left the room. My daughter is a health care professional and she had told me about this phenomenon, but I did not believe it until I saw.
You two are a great combo. Will listen while I do my morning workout!
I THOUGHT OUT OF ALL THE CO-HOSTS, MICHAEL WAS THE BEST. HE IS REALLY FUNNY AND SEEMS VERY REAL AND HE’S A NATURAL..HE’S THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO THE KELLY SHOW. GREAT CHOICE!!
