EXCLUSIVE: The scripted series DTLA – which was created, directed and executive produced by The L Word‘s Larry Kennar — has landed at Logo. The network will premiere the ensemble drama Wednesday, October 24 at 11 PM and will follow it with seven 30-minute episodes. DTLA revolves around the relationships and sex lives of eight friends with varied ethnic, cultural, and sexual orientations who work and live in downtown Los Angeles. Darryl Stephens (Noah’s Arc) stars with a supporting cast that includes Melanie Griffith, Sandra Bernhard and Jeremy Jackson. Stephens, Michael Andres Palmieri and Helene Shaw also executive produce. The series will also have its international premiere on Out TV Canada, marking the first time a Kickstarter-funded TV series has landed domestic and foreign distribution. (Check out the trailer below.)
The deal marks the latest scripted acquisition for the network, which include Misfits and Bewitched (currently on the air). It also will premiere Will & Grace next year.

Is it just me or the audio was horrible and out of sync in many shots. I sooo want to like this but production value is not there, looks like reality TV to me. Will still give it a shot.
I don’t agree that it looks like reality TV. but I understand what you mean. I think that you’re used to seeing shows that are filmed in a studio, not shot on location, which gives this show a totally different look than most other shows.
I’ve been following this show since I first heard of it through Stephens’ Twitter account earlier this year, long before it was picked up by Logo, when they only had a contract with Out TV in Canada. It’s an independently-financed venture; when it was filmed, it wasn’t backed by any big network, it was solely funded by kickstarter funds, which means that it’s not going to be as theatrical looking as most other shows.
I too had an issue with the audio. It was real hard for me to understand what the characters were saying at times and I found myself cranking up the volume so I could try to get what was being said.
It was almost like they were using boom mics that were too far away from the cast members, so their dialogue was competing with the surrounding ambient noise.
Isn’t this show already on the cw called the LA complex or something like that? With the same exact synopsis?
…….WTF?! No. The L.A Complex is about young adults trying to make it in the entertainment world. Its an entirely different show.
Good for Larry Kennar….he’s a hard working guy and deserves a show on the air!
I’m really curious how this works…so if you raise money via crowd funding for what is clearly a for-profit model, is there a specific equity distribution? I can see all this turning into such a mess if one of these things really breaks out and makes serious money. Or is it just a “gift” and if people use it to create content that makes money, oh well? Isn’t the SEC interested in all this? Genuinely interested.
Money given to a project via Kickstarter is a donation. No equity is given in exchange for funds raised.
Project organizers often offer rewards, like an autographed DVD, in exchange for a donation.
i don’t understand why logo decided to have this show on the air, when their online series “hunting season” is the better show — by a lot — not even in the same league as this show!
LOL!! you are hilarious, “should-of”!
I think it has a very disjointed flow, as though it were an hour long show (badly) edited down to 30 minutes.
