In what will be her first TV starring role since the end of her hugely popular Disney Channel series Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus is in negotiations to play the female lead in a new Bonnie & Clyde miniseries, executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. In the biggest synergy move between new siblings History and Lifetime, the four-hour mini, originally developed for History, will now air on both male-driven History and female-focused Lifetime. This is the first time A+E Networks is producing a program to be shared by two of its channels in an effort to reach both female and male audiences with the classic story of two of America’s most famous outlaws.
Bonnie & Clyde, from Sony Pictures TV and Zadan and Meron’s studio-based Storyline Entertainment, was written by John Rice and Joe Batteer based on the true story of bank robbing couple Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. In the most famous screen version of the 1930s story to date, the 1967 Oscar-winning movie, Bonnie was played by Faye Dunaway.
Cyrus recently returned to TV with a guest arc on Two And A Half Men. She will next be seen in LOL. In addition to Bonnie & Clyde, Zadan and Meron have a biopic of Anna Nicole Smith in the works at Lifetime. The project, also written by Rice and Batteer, is now casting. History is riding high on the success of its Western miniseries Hatfields & McCoys. Lifetime has another biopic toplined by a famous former child star, the Lindsay Lohan-starring Liz & Dick, coming up in November.

PLEASE no Miley what a JOKE
Fortunately we still have the 1967 Arthur Penn-Robert Benton-David Newman “Bonnie and Clyde” to enjoy.
LOL This is funny Miley should stick to multi cam comedies. Hilary Duff was attached to a indie remake a few years ago but at least she had potential.
I agree! Hilary had and has potential. Miley is…I am not too sure about her.
Seriously? Ugh…
Isn’t lifetime the same cable outlet that gave us a Lindsey Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor?
I can’t wait until we get Chris Brown as Sidney Poitier in the TV remake of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?
As if Lindsay Lohans Elizabeth Taylor wasn’t enough…. Now Miley Cyrus? Come on Lifetime. Don’t be so desperate for ratings. Who is next? Zac Efron as Hitler or Stalin? Ali Lohan as Joan of Arc? Amanda Bines as Princess Diana? Justin Bieber as John Kennedy?
Except Zac can actually act…
Miley and her new haircut makes her look just like Jared Leto’s character in Fight Club?
Lets guess, so for the Beatty part Joe Jonas, E Parsons part Selena Gomez, M Pollard part The Situation. Who owns these rights and wtf are they thinking! I thought Beatty did, I cannot imagine he’d allow this disgrace.
I wasnt very disapointed with your list. UNTIL you mentioned The Situation-LMAO!!!
I’m pretty sure being a true-life account, and with the time that’s passed, it’s unlikely that he owns the rights. He may own the rights to certain books or perhaps only remake rights to the original he starred in, but there have been other movies in the (recent-ish) past. I can think of the 1992 movie starring Dana Ashbrook from Twin Peaks, and I’m sure there’s been others that I haven’t seen.
But that being said, I think Miley is a TERRIBLE choice for Bonnie Parker. She’s about as tough and street smart as a feather pillow. She might be popular and cute, but it’s a poor choice.
Kid may surprise y’all. Don’t know if she’s got the acting chops but a lot will depend on the Clyde choice and who directs. She could just pull it off.
right. and this is why LOL went (practically) direct to DVD and that other film that cost 20m is sitting on the shelf and harvey weinstein literally handed (threw?) the film back to the producers it’s so unwatchable. imdb says it’s called So Undercover….
This is almost as bad as when they announced Taylor Swift was being considered to play Joni Mitchell in a film. That has to be a sign of The End Times.
I dont think that would be bad. I think Swift would be a good actress. Not great, but…Well, it wouldnt be as bad as Miley as Bonnie, or yes, Swift as Eponine in Les Miserables. But as J. Mitchell it might be okay.
We shouldn’t fault her for reaching, even if it exceeds her grasp (which, frankly, remains to be seen).
Who knows? She might actually knock it outta the park. And while I certainly wouldn’t bet the house on that happening, I again cannot fault her for trying to enlarge her world beyond the Disney child-star paradigm.
I sincerely wish her well, because it does none of us (or the world) any good when a peer delivers mediocre work to bad notices, bad ratings, or bad box office.
“We shouldn’t fault her for reaching, even if it exceeds her grasp.”
Metaphorically speaking, she has no HANDS to reach with. This is such a bad mismatch it’s not even funny.
But first some acting classes, please.
She’s gonna need way more than acting classes.
She is not capable of acting ever she has never been able to act at all. When she was doing Hannah Montana all she ever did was TALK REALLY LOUD AND VERY FAST that’s what she thinks acting is and it’s disgusting that the Disney Channel ever cast her in the first place. The girl can’t act and she can barely sing. She is a joke and it shows how stupid today’s kids are that they made her fabulously wealthy she’s worth $100 million with zero talent.
Casting does not get much worse than this.
And way to go History Channel, launch a division with a terrific Hatfields mini – and quickly sink it with this type of Lifetime crap.
I’m sure when Jodie Foster and Kurt Russell went from doing kids mnovies to more serious roles people made jokes too.
At the end of the day, can we give History Channel the benefit of the doubt and wait and see if she is terrible or not? Believe me, critics will have their pens sharpened for any line reading of Miley’s that is slightly flat. If she stinks, there will be no shortage of people that say so.
I personally hope she hits it out of the park, but we’ll have to wait and see. Train wreck or not, it will be more entertaining television and more highly rated than those HBO Vanity Piece snoozefests that Lombardo keeps cranking out like Hemmingway and Gellhorn.
Zadan & Meron are good producers and Cyrus, who obviously wants to get as far away from Hannah as possible, has found a way! Since Nancy Dubuc oversees both channels this ‘synergy’ was bound to happen.anyway, too soon to say but wouldn’t count them out.
Really? Is she going to be falling off the face of the earth anytime soon?
I’m sure Jodie Foster and Kirt Russell were famous for their acting and not for a tv show Disney made millions off of in merchandising. I’m also sure Jodie was nominated for an Academy award as a teenager (13 I think).
Miley is in her 20s, she’s not a kid, she’s never been known for her acting so the questions folks raise are more logical than this hollow false optimism.
She’s a tabloid fixture, like Lohan, and she’ll generate bad buzz and morbid curiosity and thus ratings.
Nothing sounds classier than “Anna Nicole Smith” biopic
Didn’t LOL already come out and disappear?
Actually, “LOL” is already on dvd/blu. Her other recent film, “So Undercover” hasn’t been released yet. .
The problem with Miley and some other stars is not whether she(they) can or not slam-dunk the part, but that she is poison as an actress. Unfortunately so. Her movie LOL sunk to the deepest parts of the ocean, and that was with a little help from D. Moore! But tv has a way of attracting viewers. I think Hilary, Selena, and Lindsay are good actresses come from Disney.
Faye Dunaway she isn’t. She was amazing as Bonnie and worthy of that Oscar nom
Well, as all the greats pass away to be replaced by Disney kids, reality stars, and rappers (like Puff Daddy playing Poitier’s role in “Raisin in the Sun”), this had to happen. As with LiLo as Liz Taylor, expect more of it.
Come on I love Miley but Faye’s gotta be rolling in her grave.
Faye Dunaway is not rolling in her grave, because she is very much alive
There was a fine television movie made about twenty years ago, entitled, “Bonnie & Clyde: The True Story.” Quite a good movie.
