Looks like the Republican won the Hispanic vote — at least on TV. By a sliver, Mitt Romney’s Wednesday appearance on Univision’s Meet The Candidates beat President Obama’s Thursday visit. Romney’s hourlong sitdown, moderated by Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas, pulled in an average of 2.8 million total viewers, which the president averaged 2.7 million total viewers. Among adults 18-49, Romney got 1.4 million while Obama got 1.3 million in the demo. In the 25-54 demo, the situation was reversed: Romney drew 1.3 million and Obama drew 1.4 million. Neither candidate did as well as the show regularly seen in that time slot, as the recently launched novella Armor Bravio pulls in 3.2 million total viewers. Still, Obama and Romney’s pre-taped appearances were tops in adults 18-49 in Houston, Phoenix and LA. The town hall visits — a first for the network by both sides in a general election – were organized after the Commission on Presidential Debates rejected Univision’s request for a fourth debate between the two aimed at Hispanic voters. About 9% of all voters are Hispanic, and they could be a significant bloc for November’s election in swing states like New Mexico, Arizona, Florida, Nevada, and Colorado.
Deadline's Dominic Patten - tip him here.

Yes, they tuned in for the freak show.
This proves one thing… Latino viewers dig watching white guys with spray tans as much as everyone else does.
@john_b… That was stupid.
Obama was asked difficult questions. It was fun watching his wtf face.
Or maybe they’re not simply looking to be pandered to and actually are going to consider who they vote for.
Everyone digs less government dependence. This is a no duh moment. So when romney wins, John up above will be shocked, sad, then get it too. ..naaaah. just he’ll just be sad.
It was nice to see Univision actually ask the President real questions instead of the white-hosue written and approved softballs usually lobbed by the Mainstream media. Obama has a terrible record and cannot defend it, and this interview showed that.
no, he does not have a “terrible record.” He passed historical health care reform (protecting people with preexisting conditions as well as allowing young people to stay on their parent’s insurance), stopped us from sliding into a depression, caught and killed OBL, and rescued the auto industry. Has he been perfect? Of course not, as is the case with every president before him, but his actions have been far from setting a “terrible record.”
Great points but you might want to do some investigation..Obama care could have passed legislation on that one point..how are we going to pay for this and other spending. So now we have 2700 pages of a health care no one knows what a monthly cost for a family and will it by the right care for your family. Sorry I know you get Mint Chocolate chip but we just have vanilla. GM down 40 % in sales and struggling and still the tax payers own a portion funny how Ford never took money.. So we killed bin ladin that did us good with Libia I guess thats your foreign policy. How about flat tax 15 % for evey one..you make a $1 you pay 15 cents and a million a $150,000….and go to 1 sheet a paper thats reform…
Any person watching the interviews could see the difference between the candidates.. The empty chair was in full mode and the businessman was in stride. As a former business owner, rashness does not bode well for success. Hispanic’s are intellegent, have a rich history and culture and deserve the best choice for the present and the future. They do not need pandering and the same narrative that has held the black population in institutional slavery.
Excellant post
The real winner here is Univision. Our of ALL the networks so far, they’ve done the best interviewing.
i felt that i could trust Romney to keep his word but all obama did was not anwser but instead evade every time maria and jorge ask a direct question and even wanted to blame bush for his problems we are not uneducated we can clearly see what he was doing like jorge said to him when you make a promise you keep it!!
it means Latino’s are taking a look at Romney ’cause they are not happy with O.
Probably a good thing for Obama because he really blew it in his interview. Unlike the liberal US media and it’s soft-gloves treatment of Obama, Univision’s Ramos asked hard questions, and the President did not provide acceptable answers.
Congrats to Univision for putting a little pressure on Obama. That’s something the MSM would never do. The country deserves to hear the truth.
What grade are you guys in?
He edged Obama???? The title should have been “Obama makes a complete fool of himself on national TV”
Don’t be a hater. Romney came and expressed his view. To mock anyone based on whether they are a Democratic or Republican is watching a human drone in action.
I watched Obama lie to their faces about why he did not keep his promise to address immigration. He never even proposed a bill when he had a super majority in the senate and control of the house yet he blamed it on the Republicans. He has sidesteped congress so many times why did he just not do an executive order like he has for so many other things? He is shamefull. Landslide Romney!
Sounds like the Latino community was no longer interested in the same ol’ bull Pres. Obama was pushing 4 years ago! Time to go Obama!!! Adios!!!!!
Don’t get your hopes high, Reese. It’s normal for viewers to tune in to the challenger. To see what he is offering. Particularly to gauge his views and ideas on how to improve the economy.
Unfortunately for Romney, the Latino population already made up their mind. The damage have been done by Romney inconsistencies on the dream act. Even more so by his Repubs colleagues with their bigoted outbursts in recent years.
You have to give the Latinos credit as they don’t suffer from amnesia like majority of white folks – raring to return to same old crappy economic policies that led us to this mess.
Please do not speak for all Latinos….We are a diverse group who have many interests besides immigration…but on that point you should know that many Latinos feel Obama used us and then lied to us. He has been blaming the Republicans, when in fact on National TV, he was confronted with the fact that he did not have a proposal for immigration reform when Democrats had majority in Congress. Then a few months before the election he gives temporary permits to students…just to get him over the election.
Do some research on Hispanic/Latino Conservative and Republican organizations… their numbers are growing fast and they are encouraged by the message of people like Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Brian Sandoval, Susana Martinez, etc.
The truth hurts! Obama has NEVER had to face real questions!
Do u even know who are the Latino, by the way I’m Latino and whiter than clinton
Looks like Hispanicvoters are just like everyone else concerned about the economy.
After all they want to find work for their children, and spouses too.
Eating, paying the rent or mortgage is not a racial thing. Everyone needs work, and a future we all do.
The topic in this election is not skin tone it is a “tone Deaf” whitehouse when it comes to the nation’s economy.
Just proves hispanics don’t support someone based on the color of there skin
…and come November, Romney will ‘edge’ Obama (but hard) with the voters, who he leads quite strongly with…the oversampled-Democrat polls notwithstanding (and even THEN it’s usually close).
Congratulations to Unavision for providing a meaningful forum for the candidates. Good range of topics, and not many softballs.
Univision … Great interviews. Thanks for asking challenging questions on important issues. Obama doesn’t do well when challenged. Needs that TelePrompter.
Latinos UNITE!!!! We own businesses, we have families, we love our freedom! I am very confidant in Señor Romney to really help this Country. no more excuses, and the only change I want to see is in the White House! Señor Obama, I cannot trust you, you have turned your backs on us and we trusted you! For 2 years you had an opportunity to pass laws for us, now all you want to do is blame the Republicans for your own actions. I only hear excuses and blame games. Take responsibility and step aside. I want a President who understands business and will protect us, not lie to us!!!
Congratulations Univision………You did a really professional job interviewing Obama..Was so refreshing not to see the media bow down. I will vote for Romney as he is what America needs now. Obama could not even answer the questions which leads me to believe he will say whatever to just get the votes. Vote Romney/Ryan for your family and for America so we can have a good future. Thank you Univision for showing Obama for what he is.
Univision Moderators were outstanding in their Job Performance. The Hispanic People are not stupid and don’t like “being used” by Obama. We all were fooled, not again!!
I Trust Mitt and Paul Ryan. Go Amigos. Well Done!!!
oh yes, let’s look at the ratings of ONE televised moment in time vs. poll after poll where Romney, and frankly the entire GOP, is losing the latino vote horribly. And why shouldn’t they? Romney’s “plan” for illegal immigrants, and their children who were born here and are as American as any one of us, is to starve them out and force them to “self deport” which is as cruel as it is completely ridiculous.
O will soon learn that you can lie to one people at one time but you can not lie to all people aljk the time.
It’s been said a lot but really kudos to Senor Ramos and the Univision team for actually asking substantive questions of the president. It’s probably a completely new experience for him; having to answer actual questions about his record and think on his feet, not just deal with a bunch of fawning supplicants acting like starstruck teenage girls! Maybe Ramos should take over for Brian Williams, David Gregory and all of the other idiot reporters who generally moderate debates.
