After a shift to Saturdays, drama Saving Hope is on the move again at NBC, this time to the Internet. The network is pulling the last two episodes of the Canadian-produced medical drama, which will air on nbc.com. Saving Hope‘s slot will be filled by America’s Got Talent repeats. In its last airing on Thursday, the series starring Erica Durance drew 2.5 million viewers and a 0.5/1 in adults 18-49. The Entertainment One-produced show has already been renewed for a second season in Canada.TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Just another notch on NBC’s belt of can’t-get-rights…
It was just cheap filler for them. They didn’t produce it.
When you can’t develop it yourself, just import it!
Oh, good. That’s exactly what NBC was missing; more AGT airings.
Not a bad show but clearly NBC couldn’t devote much marketing attention to it considering the importance of their fall launch.
I found Saving Hope by accident because there didn’t seem to be any marketing for it, and really enjoyed it. Then NBC moved it and now they aren’t even going to finish airing it on the network? This is ridiculous… and repeats of America’s Got Talent will replace it? It’s like they are trying to push viewers away.
I know, I have been saying this for years… short sighted execs on the major networks! (I actually feel like abc’s gotten a lot better, but I’m too tired to check if I am right)
All they seem to care about is going with whatever is cheapest & gets the most views RIGHT NOW. They don’t seem to care or comprehend that millions of views are fans, they spend a lot of time watching a series, & it is big F*@k YOU to cancel it mid season.
They gotta start playing the long term game before they go the way of the dinosaurs– & part of that is RESPECTING YOUR AUDIENCE. There were years that I basically stopped watching network tv because I’d get into a show & they’d cancel it- not even bother trying to appease the audience. Over & over (& very similar story for the majority of my friends aged 20-40, male & female). I trust cable networks like HBO & Showtime because they’ve never dicked the viewer around like that on anything I can think of. Certainly it’s not a regular occurrence.
I will say though that at least airing it online is a step in the right direction**. I remember when they wouldn’t even do that… though it might be only because it was a production they acquired rather than in house. NBC probably wouldn’t even have bothered producing a whole season.
(**BUT their website is majorly lacking & behind others like abc, hulu, etc)
I loved this show and the entire cast. When there’s show’s like Honey Boo Boo staying on the air, and a show like Saving Hope gets cancelled before they even air the final two episodes, there’s something wrong with the television decision makers. Given time, I think this would have blown Greys Anatomy off the map. I have officially ended my relationship with the major networks. I’ve been let down more times in the past 20 years than I care to remember, but not anymore when you have so many great cable stations out there.
Technically, Saving Hope was dropped by NBC, but not cancelled since it was merely adopted for syndication here from Canada; future eps can always be watched online, either thru offical means or otherwise. But I do prefer ~serious viewing on my DVR as my comp is less high-tech (no HD!) so it sucks that NBC can’t even keep it on their otherwise-empty Saturdays nights, gah. I had a feeling something was wrong when I noticed my Season Pass hadn’t caught the last ep & then I couldn’t even find it via their OnDemand section, why not put it there too?? Ugh, NBC you disappoint me so!
makes me not want to start any of their new shows like Revolution because they might get me hooked on it but not enough other people will watch it and then they will drop it, I hope I will be able to find a place I can watch the 2nd season of Saving Hope. In a world of too much reality TV and cop shows this was a refreshing TV show to get lost in. I wish we could get CTV (canada TV) through a cable company like TNT and USA shows. I like them alot more than network TV.
How inconsiderate to those of us that liked the show!!! I understand if it doesn’t get a 2nd season, but come on, would it hurt you to show the final two episodes?
I would have watched this show but this is the first time I heard NBC was airing it.
NBC will indeed suffer Big Time for doing this to the 3 million + fans of Saving Hope:( (Mark my words) It will comeback and bite them in there ass.
Good Luck to anyone who is planning on watching Revolution. That show will be off the air in no time.
That’s what I mean! This isn’t the 50′s where there are a handful of options & people are devoted to their 3 networks or whatever. As a viewer you start to not even bother taking the time to get into a new series because they do this so often now.
What was that about ‘Fool me once…’? haha
@Lethargic– since it’s imported from canada, the rights are simpler– the whole show is on Hulu (regular hulu as well as plus) if you’re interested
This is a joke! It’s a great show, entertaining and an unusual story line, unlike anything else on prime time. And what’s the problem these studios have with people over the age of 49? At least the baby boomers love TV, watch the commercials, and usually have a laptop on the side to check out something they dont remember! That’s why they took off Harry’s Law ! Just like Saving Hope, we love the characters and the stars that play them. I’m very disappointed, although i will do everything possible to find out when they will be airing the last 2 episodes online! And hopefully will be able to tap into some Canadian website to watch the 2nd season unless youtube has it! i agree with Michael Shanks comment robbing the viewers of the last of the story line. I’m sick of all the reality shows and especially having to watch repeats of them. I realize it’s hard picking up a new show in the summer, but NBC is the one this falls back on for not advertising and supporting their line up!
I watched the show several times when I was in the Montreal area on business and really enjoyed it. I looked forward to watching again when I heard it was coming to the U.S. Unfortunately, I soon learned it was going to be on NBC, which meant I would not be able to sample it since I’m avoiding NBC, except for football (Go Giants!) because Big Nasty Chin is still employed there.
NBC, when will you wake up regarding Big Nasty Joke Stealing Backstabbing Chin?
That said, Durance is a find. Lovely and talented lady, who understands the meaning of acting with nuance. She belongs in features or on a real network.
N-nothing
B-but
C-chaos
..more like, “Crappy decisions” lmao ;P
Another well done show that NBC had no clue what to do with. So what if they got it from Canada on the cheap? That’s a reason to waste it?
It’s a cool little series, well acted, solid production, with a unique twist. The audience was very loyal and absolutely could have grown larger had just a bit of time, money and thought been put in. For the life of me I do not understand why this network so often botches the good stuff that it does have. Baffling.
Shame. I really hope Erica Durance finds a great vehicle that shows off what she can do. Very talented.
You do know Saving Hope has been renewed right? Erica Durance won’t be looking for work for at least another year. Maybe she’ll find a movie to do in some down time from the show but there will be another 13 episodes next summer available on the external side of the US border. Kind of like how The Listener’s third season finale is next week. Remember when NBC pulled out early on that one?
People here and other sites call them ‘cheap Canadian imports’ but do you ever think about what the networks here in Canada or in the UK pay for a season of NCIS or Grey’s Anatomy or Modern Family? On this side of the border those are the ‘cheap American imports’ but we don’t usually talk about them in those terms. Those buying US shows for other markets pay pocket change compared to the bankroll the US broadcaster will pay. It is just one need realise that sometimes the US is a foreign market.
And Comcast shares are up 18 cents on news of this
Is there no other show tor repeat? What about a Parenthood repeat, or SVU repeat
The show isn’t cancelled, it just won’t be on NBC
This show could never gain any kind of traction from the very first episode but what they should also do is banish Rock Center to Saturday nights and then cancel the whole damn thing afterwards. That show is just awful!
Saving Hope is an awesome show of great quality. It is a huge success in Canada. In the US most of the summer pulled between 3 to 4 million viewers in spite of the fact that NBC never promoted it. Beware, NBC pulls the plug early on most of its new shows so don’t get stuck again. Watch another network for new shows.
I agree 100% with everything you said. The rating is not bad considering it was hardly advertised once the show started. It’s all NBC’s fault. The ratings were still higher then the repeat of americas got talent so it doesnt make any sense. I guess NBC just doesnt have any sense to pull the last two episodes.
Liked this show but I honestly cried every show. I just want the poor guy to wake up even if it ended the show.
This was my favorite show of the summer; the only “reality” show of any type I watch is “Dancing With the Stars,” so I will definitely not be watching anything that NBC replaces it with. Someone mentioned that it will be on Hulu. Here’s hoping they are right. More and more it seems the best shows are imports and the best way to get them is to skip broadcast tv entirely.
I like Michael Shanks and Erica Durance, but every time I channel surfed by that show, some character was crying their guts out. Every time. That’s not going to make me stop and watch. The show seems like a big downer.
Maybe we can get My Network TV to air the second season in 2013…
Are you kidding me, that crap show AGT is replacing it as a repeat. This is a huge mistake on their part, it cost very little for them to have the series, since its produced by CTV and all they have to do is advertise it and air it. Dumbasses
I love this show!! Do I have to go visit family in Canada next year just to see season 2?!! I am hoping to find it online next season!!! This is bull NBC!
Durance really shines on this show, as she did on Smallville. She is indeed a find, and the reason I tried not to miss an episode of Hope this summer. Perhaps NBC will still pick up season 2 for next summer [?] – I hope so.
I’m not convinced NBC is giving up on the show – I think they/NBC simply ran out of time to run the entire season 1. They probably miscalculated how many episodes they could squeeze in between the Olympics and the Conventions, and now they find they have two episodes left, and the fall season kicks off on this coming Monday with the need to clear the way for ‘The Voice’ and other fall premieres next week. They just ran out of time for the summer shows – leave it to NBC – only at NBC could this happen!
They had the time- it says right in the article the promised timeslots are being switched out for re-runs of AGT. There’s no such thing as necessary reruns, so they pulled them because they thought advertisers were not paying enough to run during SH whereas AGT ones are already paid for & paid higher due to the usual high ratings. NBC, like all primetime networks these days, expects their shows to get MORE thsn 10mil viewers per ep.. oy.
