Julliard-trained actor Michael O’Hare who helped launch the Babylon 5 sci-fi TV series by portraying Commander Jeffrey Sinclair in its first season, passed away Friday night from complications of cardiac arrest. He was 60. The show’s creator J Michael Straczynski posted on his Facebook page that O’Hare had been in a coma since suffering a heart attack on September 23rd. In Season 2, O’Hare’s character was replaced for the remainder of the show’s 5-year run by Bruce Boxleitner’s Captain John Sheridan. But O’Hare reprised the role in Seasons 2 and 3 during guest appearances. He appeared on many TV series, including Kate & Allie, The Equalizer, Tales from the Darkside, The Cosby Mysteries, and Law & Order.

SO SO saddened to hear this!
RIP.
So sad. RIP Michael and thanks for the great memories.
Enjoy all sci-fi, but B5 has always been my favorite of all time.
Michael O’Hare’s character always felt a bit stiffly presented to me, but his character’ story was the guts of that series. Sad to hear he’s passed on. As Zathras would say “He is …. the One”.
Sad to hear this. Always liked him.
Such sad news – rest in peace. Season 1 of ‘B5′ remains my favourite for Sinclair. ‘Out of the darkness and into the light’.
Rest in Peace Michael.
Out of the darkness … and into the Light ………..
Damn.
Michael O’Hare used to live across the street from me on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. He asked me out once.
On our one and only date – the day of the OJ Simpson verdict- he took me to the local coffee shop. When we sat down, I said, “So what year did you graduate from Harvard?”
Michael said, “You know, I really don’t feel like talking tonight.” Needless to say, it was a very odd evening.
I believe he later married and had a child, who must be pretty young, still.
Sorry to hear about this. 60 is way, way, too young to die.
Don’t forget he was Valen Minbari not born of Minbar OH YEAH I read BIG Babylon 5 fan I think it was big sci fi show on space Station than Star Trek Deep space nine
A man with many demons, hopefully put to rest now, and remembered always for his talent.
Remembered for his talent, except you just chose to remind everyone of his demons. Did it make you feel special to mention them like that?
World without end episode that greatest B-5 episode EVER
It tell that how Commander Jeffery Sinclair go back in the plan with that annoying alien Zathara he morphae in Valen Minbari not of Minbar help fight shadow with Babylon 4 IN THE FUTURE
Then after the Shadow War in the past he later marry may not Minibari his girlfriend Julie who play Julia Nicholon Soul at the time they have half Minbari and half Human kids one of descendant tutn out future Ambassoer Delenn that help fight Vorlon and Shadow war
That mean Mimbari born of Valen line is not full Minbari
I am such a sci fi geek
ROFL
This came as a shock.
In this day and age dying at sixty is going far, far too soon.
My thoughts are with is friends and family.
RIP
What were his demons?
Rest in peace Commander
The number of good people in this world has been depleted. I met him several times and he was always gracious and upbeat. RIP Michael. God bless you and your family.
The first season of B5 was my favourite because of Michael. RIP.
michael o hare was perfectly cast as sinclair who was one of the best characters in the show.. that’s saying something when considering the quality of characters like g’kar, londo, garibaldi to name a few… it was a true greek tragedy he was never allowed to see the character through the whole 5 seasons as planned. although sheridan was a more than adequate replacement it wasn’t the same without sinclair. – another former b5 cast member who passed before their time. RIP
always loved the B5 world. Goodbye old friend
