Paramount announced today that it is extending the theatrical run of its remastered Raiders Of The Lost Ark to more than 300 North American theaters beginning today. The move comes after a one-week IMAX run last week at 267 venues that grossed $1.6 million and is part of the studio’s publicity push for the September 18 Blu-ray release of Steven Spielberg’s and George Lucas’ Indiana Jones: The Complete Collection. The remastered pic was the No. 2 matinee last Friday — not bad for a 30-year-old movie.

This was the best film I’ve seen in a theater this year. Says a lot about the state of current blockbusters, doesn’t it?
Agreed! And they didn’t even have to add 3-D.
Brought a 15 year old boy who’d only seen it on TV — was transfixed. Agreed — it’s the best movie of the year!
It looked great. Please please release temple and last crusade in Imax. I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed this on the big screen . Took my nephew… first time viewer that was on the edge of his seat. I squirmed during the snake scene even though I’ve seen the movie a dozen times before… Something about that Imax screen. Love it.
Adjusted for inflation (via Box Office Mojo), RAIDERS is the #19 domestic box office champ of all time. There have been very few (if any) domestic theatrical re-releases of this picture over the years.
For perspective of impact, AVENGERS is actually #27 on the same list…
But RAIDERS is about more than money: It’s an icon; a cultural landmark. It’s as good as it gets in that particular genre, “A”-caliber, across the board. Hell of a cast; hell of a script.
And, of course, there’s Steven…who I’d personally love to see spending the rest of his (hopefully long) days making only films like MUNICH and LINCOLN.
My wife and I saw RAIDERS in IMAX last night.
Had not seen it on a big screen since ’81 when I was age 10.
Movie flew by. After almost 20 years in the industry, I was stunned by how simple it is. Long stretches with no dialog but heaps of crisp visual storytelling. Very effective.
Hope we see more of these Blu-ray promo IMAX releases. I get more excited than I do for a new movie.
Too bad they didn’t remaster the film for this digital LieMAX presentation run. Terrible video artifacts and focus truly challenged the film’s entertainment value for this “Raiders” fan. Fortunately, DoP Doug Slocombe didn’t have to see what’s happened to his exemplary cinematography.
Yes, I heard bout the focus pull issues. What up with that?
I’m sure the cost of making real IMAX prints would have been a lot for a limited run, but it would have been a fitting tribute. Great anyway enev in LieMAX.
Took my 16 year old son who was also transfixed to the screen. He was the youngest in the theatre for a 7pm show.
I’d rather see re-releases than all these remakes.
It was pretty amazing, seeing that french guy eat that fly on the big screen. Did any one else catch that?
