I was excited about this when it was about our Chinese overlords, now, not so much. Hope it does well though.
That’s a mistake, this will get torn to shreds with that audience. Acting is atrocious and plot is more inconsistent than the GOP platform. I don’t care how drunk they are, the tone of this film is more CW than Rambo.
This will suffer the same fate as the Total Recall remake.
I was a big fan of the concept of the first Red Dawn, and even of much of the execution. While much of the acting from the young cast was awful, the feel of the movie was very real. These were average kids at a typical high school being affected by unthinkable events, and they often didn’t handle it well.
After seeing the trailer for the remake, it’s clear they missed the point of the movie: average kids fighting back. Putting a marine in charge changes the dynamic of the movie, and lowers the stakes. Plus, looking at what Hemsworth brings to the role (based solely on the trailer) I’m quite worried about it inspiring any visceral reaction in the average moviegoer.
Hopefully this will be the last o’ the 80′s remakes for sometime… just caught Fright Night over the weekend. I still stink from the wretch.
is this the film where the bad guys were changed from chinese to north korean to apease the chinese government? or am i confusing this with something.
the first version with c. thomas howell (remember him) was not so great. do we need another film?
