Gail Steinberg, who was the co-creator and EP on Ricki Lake’s original talk show during the 1990s, is returning to become executive producer of the freshman talker The Ricki Lake Show, effective immediately. Lisa Kridos, who was EP, is exiting to become a programming and development producer for the show’s distributor Twentieth Television. Steinberg is currently EP of Divorce Court, daytime’s longest-running court show, and was a consultant and co-produced this year’s Ricki Lake pilot. “Gail will usher in a fresh perspective bringing in an added relevancy, fun and energy to each episode, while showcasing compelling viewpoints to the female focused topics that remain at the core of the new Ricki Lake Show,” Twentieth EVP Programming and Development Stephen Brown said. Ricki Lake has gotten off to a slow ratings start among the freshman pack of daytime talkers, owning partly to a Tribune-Cablevision carriage dispute that has affected 40% of New York households.

Gail Steinberg is a class act all the way!! She is so smart, caring and knows what the daytime audience wants. Go Ricki, Go Gail!!! Ricki’s will be the leader of the daytime yakkers by the end of the season- just watch!
Unfortunately, there is no saving this show. The ratings are the lowest of any freshman talker. The show is produced on a shoe-string budget and it shows. You get what you pay for. The senior staff is all producers who have been continuously fired from every show they have been at. Lisa, although a nice woman, had been at the helm of Good Day LA for so long, where schlocky, un-produced television works because of the multiple anchors. Spin it however you want, but Lisa was fired. The show rates a .6 on a good day.
As far as Gail bringing in a ‘fresh perspective’ and ‘relevancy’, that ship has sailed. The problem is that Ricki’s original show and audience is now watching Maury. Kids today don’t know who she is and don’t care. The show should be cancelled immediately. No one is going to watch it now whatever they do.
Lisa Kridos is also a class act— all the way! Lisa is also “so smart, caring and knows what the daytime audience wants.” I am sad for Ricki that Lisa is no longer Ricki’s executive producer. Go Gail – I’ll agree with that— but Susan Winston would be an excellent Exec Producer for Ricki as well.
The loss of Lisa as Ricki’s exec producer came too soon. Congrats Lisa on the corporate job!!!!
I am hoping Ricki will rise to the top! I am excited!! Go ricki!
If this show gets cancelled you just know Ricki gonna blow up again.
This show is a goner. Futility at its finest. The channels it airs on aren’t the best, and it is losing in the ratings to Jeff Probst. Ouch!
The reason Lisa Kridos is being dumped (make no mistake about it, she is being dumped) can be summed up in two words:
Low Ratings.
Go Ricki, go!
Women need you to tell their stories. There are too many untold stories with few happy endings. Too many battles of oppression with unpunished propagaters. You and your team have important work to do. Carry on!
Mary
ricki needs to go back to doing topics she did in her orginal show. thats what people want to see. it worked for 11 years.
I recognize ths pattern. Show receives the green light with a barely passable budget. Show sees lowest ratings since Black Friday Ishtar marathon. Show changes up staff in attempts to making it “fresh”. Show is “re-tooled” one last time with the help of interns and half the budget before cancellation as the “essential” staff (studio producers and friends) move over to a mid season replacement series without the host(ess) finding out. We don’t see the host(ess) again until ten years later as a recurring character in a sit-com about community college starring Internet celebrities.
