Fans of the 1987 original are buzzing — not all of it good — after ComingSoon.net over the weekend posted the first shot of the new-look RoboCop from Jose Padilha’s update starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson and Abbie Cornish. The outfit does kinda have a Tim Burton’s Batman feel to it — a far cry from Peter Weller’s metallic get-up in the original — but with a cast like the one Padilha’s assembled the movie can’t be all bad can it? MGM/Columbia Pictures’ remake will be released August 9, 2013.

I know the Farrell’s remake of Total Recall hasn’t endeared folks to 80s remakes, but what with Drone technology getting so advanced in real-life – plus popularity of franchises like Iron Man & Transformers, it might be worthy successor.

Can’t believe DH is giving this much ink to the costume design. This isn’t Spiderman or Batman or Superman or even the Hobbit…it’s just RoboCop.
Like Total Recall, this is an ill-conceived, cynical, and utterly pointless remake. Just because people have “heard” of an IP, doesn’t mean they’re stupid enough to actually pay to see a new movie with the same IP (Total Recall, Battleship, Snow White, etc.). Executives, get that through your thick skulls and stop allowing the marketing nitwits to make your decisions.
The original was fantastic, but as history has proven, this will be an expensive, watered down, homogenized version that lands with a thud. Prepare to take a bath.
P.S. How long before MGM goes bankrupt for the twelfth time?

This is going to be a HUGE flop. Worst than Total Recall. The studio should cut its loss right now and shut it down. terrible casting job too. never heard of this lead guy and the special effects is basement.

C’mon people. This is beyond awful. Is Sony that desperate? Did they not learn from Total Recall? Stop recycling trash and just try and original idea. It feels like the Sony movie factory is bankrupt of originality and creativity.
Looks appropriately updated. Anyone who wants a carbon copy of the original should just watch the original. Problem solved.
Nearly every remake/reboot of 80s franchises has FAILED, and badly. Consider Fright Night, Total Recall, Footloose, Conan, The Thing, A-Team, Dukes of Hazzard, Fame, Arthur, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th.
Not sure what the point of this remake is. In today’s studio environment it can’t be as envelope-pushing as the original.

I was fan of 1980s film I going take wait and see on this before I make judgement LOL!
Making no judgements on the quality of the film based on one image, but knowing how bad the producers must be freaking out about the leak is a treat on a slow Monday.

The film should be retitled “Raiding Christopher Nolan’s Closet”
So uninspired. I keep hoping that they’ll announce that this is Murphy before he becomes RoboCop. Like maybe this is what cops wear in the future. If not, this is a huge miss. It doesn’t look like a person who has become a hybrid of man and machine. It looks like a dude in a costume. A generic videogame costume at that.
i don’t see any big deal so far. all depends on what they do with it.
