BREAKING: The Democratic Party has firmed Scarlett Johansson and Kerry Washington to give major speeches at the Democratic National Convention tonight at 7 PM. The choice of the actresses is hardly random. Organizers of President Obama‘s re-election campaign have taken a decidedly different track with its use of Hollywood celebrities than the Republicans did last week with Clint Eastwood’s rambling lecture to an empty chair that had many scratching their heads.

I’m told that the Dems have chosen two young women who’ll focus on getting college students to come out and vote. Johannson and Washington, who were both active in Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, will speak on issues that include protecting women’s rights, the burden of student loans, and the importance of entry-level jobs. Both Johansson and Washington — whose producers on the ABC series Scandal moved her schedule so she could be in North Carolina tonight — will talk about their own experience with these issues before they became stars and how they have benefited from the system. “It should be an elegant contrast to what Clint did last week,” said an insider. Johansson just starred in Marvel’s The Avengers and Washington stars in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino-directed Django Unchained.

I am a student and I would not pay attention to either of these pretty faces!!
You are commended for your common sense and a brain–seriously.
Its kind of emabarrasing to presume anyone CARES about them in this context.
It would be difficult to watch them without laughing.
2 very beautiful, very successful, wealthy, single, no kid female ACTRESSES under the age of 35. Tough times for them indeed. What do actors do well? Learn lines and deliver them convincingly! Lines that have been written by someone else usually. WHAT ARE the policies of OBAMA’s government? That’s what I want to know. Not what he SAYS he will do (like closing Guantanamo, but seemingly can’t) but what can he REALISTICALLY do? These two actresses may be bright but give me an intelligent speaker that lives and breathes politics, and knows what he or she is talking about. Not hollywood glamour types with opinions.
Jeeze, could you guys be more cynical?
Really.
What are they going to do, promise students and graduates that President Obama is “thinking really hard” about forgiving everyone’s college loans, if only he can get re-elected?
Because they can “really relate” to not knowing how they’d pay their own student loans, back before they all made tons of money?
Their heads are as empty as the chair Eastwood was talking to at the RNC.
Compared to Eastwood, they are surprisingly lower profile. But, if they’re trying to target younger audiences, it makes sense to select more youthful actors. However, of the three original names attached to the story, Natalie Portman, by far, has the most pull, yet she doesn’t seem to be involved anymore. But, even Portman’s appeal is limited in a time when the “Movie Star” and “box-office draw” are a thing of the past. Even landing someone like Jennifer Lawrence would seem underwhelming.
Perhaps Robert Pattinson? LOL.
Anyway, Kerry Washington is a college graduate (like Portman, a rarity in Hollywood), so, she may discuss student loans.
They may be lower profile, but the RNC should have had some smart young conservative star speak, rather than elderly Eastwood who just embarrassed himself and the party.
These comments are a joke. You really have not done your home Scarlett was in the highest grossing movie this year and has her choice of commanding movie rolls that command $20million a movie. I would say she is a small community of women actors who command that amount and one so young. Kerry Washington, as a black actress, has worked consistently in Hollywood ( and if you are sensitive to the fact it is not allot of black actress acting in Hollywood consistently you will appreciate this information). She has just secured the return of her new TV show Scandal. Which had awesome ratings this season and is based on the life of real life black pr maven in DC. You should Google for more information. I feel they have earned their right to speak before this convention and they have taken a chance in doing so did Eva Longoria by saying with the economic bracket she is in, she should be taxed at a higher rate. That took courage. Would love see that from any of your millionaire and billionaires from the republican party. Don’t hold your breath…it want happen.
Yes, she was in the highest grossing movie this year, The Avengers; however, really how many people went to see it because of her? You could have put a hundred a thousand other actresses in that role and the movie would have made the same money.
As for Longoria showing courage, again that is a joke. It is real simple for someone to say, “I think I should pay more taxes” when they have an army of accountants finding every possible loophole and deduction to reduce the amount of taxes they pay. Courage as you use it in this context would be her giving the 90% of her income to the government like the French they admire take.
The French don’t pay 90% taxes, and, unless you are a serious stalker, you have no idea whether Longoria uses lots of tax loopholes. This is the kind of thing I’m growing tired of on sites like this. One imbecile spouts off something about 90% taxes in France, then equally stupid people read his comment, they post all over other sites, and before you know it, thousands of idiots are posting crap about 90% taxes in France.
We live in a celebrity obsessed nation, so the Democrats (and Republicans) use celebrities to boost ratings for their conventions. Johansson and the rest might not be typical Americans, but how many people would tune in to see typical Americans speak? At least Johansson, Washington, and the rest have their wits about them, unlike that senile fool Eastwood.
The real underlying issue here? There are no Republican answers to Washington or Johansen (young, pretty, popular, current, intelligent, of-the-moment), just like there’s no Republican answer to the great President Obama.
I’m curious to see what they’ll look like when they’re 82 years old…
With all their make-up will they be able to look as good as Clint does for a man of his age ?
We’ll see…
