EXCLUSIVE: Recently renewed VH1 comedic drama series Single Ladies will be heading into its third season without creator/executive producer Stacy A. Littlejohn. “After two incredible seasons of Single Ladies, I have decided to entrust the show to the safe hands of VH1,” Littlejohn told Deadline. “Having fostered it from its inception, I’ve found great satisfaction in seeing these characters come to life on the screen, and am proud of what the show has become. But after two all-consuming seasons immersed in its production in the great city of Atlanta, I’ve decided it’s time to shift my focus to my life in Los Angeles and the creation of new projects.”
Single Ladies, executive produced by Queen Latifah, started off as an original movie to become VH1′s first hourlong scripted series. Its success opened the door to the series pickup of Bounce in July. “It’s been an honor to have been the creator and showrunner of VH1’s first-ever, hour-long scripted series,” Littlejohn said. “I have great respect for the talent on this show, all of whom have upheld my vision since its outset. I wish Single Ladies all the best and will continue to tune in Monday nights to see what my girls have been up to.”
Single Ladies, which revolves around three single women searching for love and happiness in Atlanta, overcame successfully a major casting change after its first season, with Denise Vasi replacing original co-star Stacey Dash. In its second season, the show averaged 3.2 million total viewers for premieres plus first encores, up 10% from season 1. Through its first 12 premiere episodes, Single Ladies averaged a 1.4 P18-49 Live+SD rating, up 17% from season 1. It was basic cable’s #1 ad-supported regularly scheduled scripted show among women 18-49 this past summer.
“We respect Stacy’s decision and thank her for her vision and incredibly hard work on the scripted hit series Single Ladies,” a VH1 spokesman said. “We wish her nothing but success in her future endeavors.” The spokesman added that “executive producers Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere, and Shelby Stone for Flavor Unit Entertainment, Maggie Malina, Tamra Davis and Alexander A. Motlagh for POPfilms, remain with the series as it prepares for a third season.”
Littlejohn is one of very few female African American showrunners. During her 15-plus-year career as a writer and producer, she has worked on The Wanda Sykes Show, All of Us, Barbershop, Cedric the Entertainer Presents, Life with Bonnie, and The Hughleys.

Wow! I’m very shocked that she would leave. The show’s ratings have been good. Few showrunners would leave a successful project like this. Shonda Rhymes juggled several series simultaneously. I hope that Littlejohn finds similar or greater success in her next projects.
As an emerging Screenwriter, Ms. Performing is an inspiration. Single Ladies is a fun show to watch.
I think Stacy A. Littlejohn is an incredible and talented writer. Although she will not be forstering the show anymore I hope that she will continue to write and produce other shows and movies. She has made her mark and one day everyone will know about “THE LITTLEJOHN EXPERIENCE”. She could not have asked for a better co-producer . Queen Latifah has been my favorite since she started. Together those two WILL GO BEYOND FARTHER!
I’m so sorry to see Stacy Littlejohn go. She’s a great writer and such a beautiful lady. I can only imagine the high pressure of writing a television series, keeping the attention of the audience, making constant changes and perhaps even having to deviate from your own personal inner thoughts or script, to possibly writing to please others. I pray that all the projects she gets involved with in the future, will only enhance her talents. I’m positive that we will here of Ms. Littlejohns writing ability again. Wishing her nothing but the very best. Now take a long vacation. It’s well deserved.
Right, right, “nothing but respect for her”… now, who knows what really happened???
I tuned out after Stacey Dash left. The show has lost its momentum. I’m sure it will get worse after the creator/visionary left. What is happening over there? Are women that caddy in the business. It’s sad because there is so few of us making waves commercially. Leaving the show after two Season to “shift focus to your life in Los Angeles and the creation of new projects” just does not add up. At any rate, I wish everyone well. I wonder what is Stacey A. LittleJohn exit strategy?
I’m sure she’s lost some of her “creative” influences. It’s obvious that Vh1 is steering her in a direction that she is not willing to compromise. Just look at the majority of the mess they televise! Codo’s to her!
That show has writers?
i heard stacy was very difficult to work with and that the scripts suffered because of it. The remaining producers are strong creatives and i’m excited to see where they take the show.
The writing and acting is just bad on this show. I watch just to support.
It’s a great show that’s why your watching it.
I love the three naughty girls especially kisha, val its so sad ur not in season two. Omar ur very funny. U guy rock. Cudos. Can’t wait for season three…
….after watching the second season I have decided not to watch the 3rd season. I miss Stacy Dash and after the God awful acting by LisaRaye and the boring stalker line…..I don’t blame the lady…. Run before it crashes and burns……
I am sad to learn of this news. Although, I celebrate Producer Stacy A. Littlejohn for her many wonderful accomplishments, and wish her continued success; I yet pray that the flavor of the show don’t alter. Me being a new fan of the show is touch by the news. I’ve being searching my On Demand with Comcast for that week showing and nothing was there, I searched google and came across this posting and I am emotionally moved. It’s amazing how a TV series can affect a persons life but this show has. During this time in my life, I have been enduring many trials and tribulations….whenever, I felt down or as if I wanted to give up, I would turn in to Single Ladies and always SMILE and become uplifted. This may not be a spiritual show, but it is definitely a show to be related to. Thank you for giving to those you don’t know or see, you never know how it helps to change a persons life.
when is the third season coming up for single ladies I miss watching it.
I really enjoy the show. Both seasons. I miss Stacy Dash, however her replacement did okay. I just hope the VH1 writers don’t change things too much. Kisha and Malcom are my favorites!
You guys should have sucked it up and kept Stacey Dash. Good ratings or not press releases or not say what you want the second season was not as good as the first you know it Stacey knows it.. the character and her vision was altered she tried to soldier it out but when you’re a true artist you can tell when the thickness of ur work has been diluted. Its clear why she would “gracefully bow out”.
I like the show as a showcase for up and coming single ladies and what they do with their lives on a daily basis. But, the main problem I have with the show is the black male characters’ ongoing comments about the female physique(butt) and skin tone. Come on, do (Black)men really approach women in real life the way that they approach women (mainly the LisaRaye character)on this show.
