I don’t think this even begins to demonstrate how bad this show is now:

This was one of the worst episodes of SNL I’ve ever seen! After such a strong season opener last week, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, not even being high was any consolation…
Agreed. SNL’s trip to primetime was not exactly roses either suggesting Weekend Update Thursday is destroying the behind-the-scenes process at the show.
Agree. The show was weak start to finish except for the musical talent Mumford.
Did you mean how bad SNL is or Live or both? Bottom line, Regis is missed.
Regis is coming back to daytime on Rachael Ray; he’ll be making his first appearance on MOnday
I really miss the golden years of SNL back in the 80′s. Those were some great SNL shows. The above bit made me smile once, but laugh, nope…
Turns out, that wasn’t just snark. It is really is horrible. How can they open with that, it seems more like a skit you would bury at the end and hope everyone has passed out.
michael strahan’s nuts have been removed
I gotta say SNL was never my cup of tea. Was there ever a time when it was funny and entertaining from start to finish?
Agreed. I think everyone remembers the 80s as being “classic comedy” because of selective memory–if you have enough good skits over a decade from enough talented people, you tend to forget all the awfulness that wasn’t funny at all.
It’s ironic that this unfunny segment was the opening. If Seth Meyers (as rumored) had actually gotten the Live! gig, at least their might have been a chance that SNL would have started being funny again. You’ve got to wonder what kind of hold Meyers has over Michaels.
I’m guessing you’re talking about SNL. Stepping up Jay Pharoah’s role has clearly been a mistake. His Obama sucks, and he just can’t carry a sketch beyond the few impressions he does really well.
Michael and Kelly? That show’s actually sitting well with me.
It was once brilliant and dangerous, now dumb and lame. What is “Comcast” doing to fix the mess they now own 50% of, more layoffs?
I don’t get why everyone on here hates SNL. Great episode. They’re still doing what they do best.
I can not believe that I just watched that. It was horrible. Boring and not funny at all.
there are have been PLENTY of worse skits on SNL over the years, this wasn’t one of them. Jay P is great.
I hope you were referring to Live with Kelly and Michael, because this skit was hilarious, as was almost the entire episode.
Is she channeling Kelly Rippa or one of Kardashians?
Yeah, the voice was totally off on “Kelly” – although they did get at the “manic” energy Kelly seems to have, that is not actually from the talk show, but the intentionally-silly Electrolux commercials (which Kelly herself spoofed on SNL once a upon a time).
I believe you’re confused, or imagining something that never happened. She was on SNL years before she did the Electrolux commercials.
Totally agree. What is NBC waiting to cancel that garbage???
You say “bad” but the ratings are up significantly over year-ago with Regis at the helm. And if SNL is choosing to mock you, then you must be doing something right. And SNL has not been funny in decades. Every skit is one joke they just repeat over and over.
The ratings may be up, but that is only because the level of intelligence in the United States is DOWN. This country is so stupid is very sad.
I don’t dislike Michael but I will say that Seth Meyers was my pick as a cohost. I finally watched the show when they had everyone do a week. I laughed ever minute he was on camera. Just so cute and funny.
I think Seth was the producers’ choice as well. Kelly probably wasn’t thrilled, cause she would have been the second banana again. However, I don’t think Seth was interested. One the one had you have the opportunity to be the head writer for SNL, and only have to do one skit a show, with a few cameo’s sprinkled in periodically, vs doing an early morning show 200 or so times a year. No thanks.
Seth will have a long career doing shows that are much easier than Live.
I actually still like SNL, but yeah, the writing last night was beyond awful.
you said it perfectly. i love this show but last night was just awful and it was definitely the writing….
Yeah was a bad ep. They are missing that YouTube kid.
Not EVERY skit has to be a parody of the real world. Please try and have some creativity. Back when SNL was great it was coming up with “Fred Garvin, Male Prostitute” skits, etc. Now it’s hard to even crack a smile during the show.
Exactly, what happened to things like Luck of the Irish and Bass-o-matic? SNL’s digital shorts are great, but the show should look back to its roots to see what made it so refreshing and dare I say, revolutionary.
The opening was funny. Not a riotous classic by any means but someone needed to point out the bizarre choice of Strahan and the mismatched non-chemistry.
SNL needs to hit refresh. Losing Wiig and Samberg is what they need to showcase new talent like Kate McKinnon and her great imitation of Ann Romney (‘Bayonsay”) but ultimately they need to take it a step further and dump dead weight like Keenan Thompson and yes even Seth Myers reign as head writer needs to close out and get a new perspective at forefront.
Sadly, it’s a demonstration of how bad Nasim Pedrad is. One of the hallmarks of SNL has been cast members who are brilliant mimics and satirists. Pedrad seems to be able to mimic the Kardashians . . . and that’s all. It’s as if she thinks “imitation” means “talk in a high pitched nasal tone”. When Kristin Wiig was on the show, she would be the logical choice for the cold open and most of the other female cast members played second banana. But with Wiig gone, the show is scrambling to find its next big female star (and that title clearly went to Kate McKinnon and her Ann Romney spoof last night).
I’m not going to say that SNL is no longer funny because it’s a hit and miss like any show. Anyway, last nights show kind of sucked.
Kelly and Michael is better that it was. She is annoying but he saves the day.
SNL however is in decline. Wiig is not only missed as a performer but as a writer. Lorne Michaels misguided decision to elevate Jay Pharoah to frontline performer shows his “Eddie-envy” as a producer. This guy is lame, over performs and has the timing of a drunk fly. And his Obama sucks.
This fish stinks from the head—Head Writer that is. Seth needs to go.
