The 90-minute Season 5 premiere of FX’s drama series Sons Of Anarchy drew 5.37 million viewers and 3.5 million adults 18-49 last night, the largest Live+Same Day audiences in the series’ history. Sons Of Anarchy was up 10% in total viewers and 9% in adults 18-49 from the previous ratings record holder, the show’s fourth-season premiere. FX projects that when Live+7 data becomes available, the SOA fifth-season premiere will likely rank as the most-watched single telecast ever on the network.
Last night’s premiere telecast and two encore runs (11:30 PM and 1 AM) combined to deliver 7.5 million total viewers and 4.86 million adults 18-49. SOA‘s premiere airing was television’s No. 1 primetime program (broadcast and cable) in men 18-49 (2.15 million) and men 18-34 (1.18 million) last night. It was cable’s No. 1 program on Tuesday in total viewers, adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54, men 18-49 and men 18-34.

Just as compelling as Breaking Bad; much more reliable than the Sopranos, and definitely on a similar par with Mad Men and what anyone considers as TVs best, SAMCRO rocks.
This was a particularly good season setup, with a very dramatic performance by Ron Perelman, a very sexy Katy Sagal (what did she get younger?) and a pretty disturbing scene re Tig and his family. I am pretty revved up to see more!
More reliable than the Sopranos? I don’t think so. SOA doesn’t have the same authenticity or creative lore the Sopranos had and it’s “true grit” is limited by the network. At times the writing is a little lazy. It’s a damn shame SOA and HBO never made it happen. Just my opinion. Keep doing your thing Samcro.
Interesting point, 1cent. I think, however that HBO may not make SAMCRO as badass as the way FX station produces it. Badassery seems to be a part of the FX Brand. HBO could have done it, but it would have been a show about girl power, blood sucking, sex crazed Lannisters on bikes that come off more as headcases needing psycho treatment than being bad-ass.
In the end, although I think that all of cable takes great risks to take it over the top, the shows never hit the 100% mark (blowing up Gus Fring was pretty close, I literally shot up off of the couch).
SAMCRO keeps you wanting more. Tig’s situation had me biting my lip so hard I almost drew blood. SOA constantly keeps me on the edge wanting more. Never a dull moment. Kurt Sutter does an amazing job connecting you emotionally to these bad a** characters. Season Five starting off with a BOOM!!!
Pretty crazy that they can still do this after five seasons. It’s great that Sutter has this many viewers to back up his well publicized comments.
The show deserves these high ratings and more.

Thats great to hear. best show on tv since the shield. the worst thing about watching sons,is when the reaper appears at the end and you know its over and you have to wait until next week, lol.
Writing is amazing. Acting is AMAZING. How they keep doing it, season after season, and getting better all the time. One of the very FEW series that I continue to watch, and I do NOT fit the 18-49 male demographic

If Kurt Sutter and crew are overlooked this awards season it would be a complete travesty.
After five seasons, SAMCRO doesn’t need emmys to prove that it is a well loved great show. But I gotta say that Clay’s speech to Gemma deserved five Emmies at least. Boy did he change after one year!
This show & it’s writer,cast,& associates deserve EVERY bit of props they’re getting.These are Actors,this isn’t their life..but they portray it so well.Kurt Sutter is an amazing writer/actor/madman

It this show was HBO it would be far more respectable (and award winning) but it aint good enough.
Its ignored by so many more then watch it.
I think its sometimes entertaining, but pales to what else is out there. Men who want to be bad boy bikers must run the ratings.
Very well made show! And like all the other comments here, I completely 100% agree!!! Love this show!!! I closed the store where I work at so fast that night that I didn’t even follow closing procedure correctly!!! Lol!! Got in trouble the next day… But it was worth it!!!

Wendy O’Brien & Kurt Sutter together is a deadly combo. Every added character brings so much to each season. Sutter keeps outdoing himself & these numbers show it. Fx knows what it’s doing with this show & I hope it runs longer than 7 seasons.
awsome job to all of sutters crew and a big nod to all the effort put into the background charectors and production value that adds to the flare of SOA!details,details and details!…the fact that sutters not afraid to kill off whoever-whenever just plain ROCKS!!

Between Son’s of Anarchy and Justified FX has got some of the best shows on the boob tube. Son’s takes me back to my Harley days, and when I could get on mine and ride off into the sunset (even being a “girl”). But watching this show is a lot of fun.
