EXCLUSIVE: Rebel Wilson’s comedy Super Fun Night has formally been greenlighted to pilot at ABC, with 30 Rock veteran John Riggi on board as showrunner. The project, executive produced by Conan O’Brien, was originally developed as a multi-camera sitcom for CBS last season. After it didn’t make the cut, ABC decided to give it another go, this time as a single-camera comedy. Written by and starring Bridesmaids standout Wilson, Super Fun Night follows three nerdy female friends, one played by Wilson, on their “funcomfortable” quest to have “super fun” every Friday night. The other two leads are being recast for the ABC pilot; they were played by Jenny Slate and Edi Patterson in the CBS one. UTA-repped Riggi, who is supervising the writing, succeeds Ted Cohen & Andrew Reich, who had only signed on for the original pilot at CBS. The gig stems from the rich two-year deal Riggi signed with Warner Bros TV in May after six seasons on 30 Rock.
Super Fun Night is produced by Warner Bros TV and O’Brien’s studio-based Conaco Prods. Riggi, O’Brien, Jeff Ross and David Kissinger executive produce, with Wilson serving as co-executive producer. The show fits into ABC topper Paul Lee’s idea of building a block of edgy young ensemble comedies around Happy Endings, which the network is trying with Don’t Trust The B—- this fall.

The upgrade from Andrew and Ted to John Riggi is even bigger than Rebel Wilson herself.
That sounds like a good name for a Japanese game show spoof.
Stealing a bit from BBC’s Friday Night Dinner, perhaps?
Man one of the reasons I wanted to watch it was because of Jenny Slate.
They should keep Edi on, she is hilarious.
Who is Rebel Wilson and why is she getting a show? She had three brief scenes in Bridesmaid and they weren’t funny. Her stand-up isn’t funny. I’m just curious why ABC is trying to force the Australian down our throat? Seriously, I just don’t get it. If ABC is that desperate for female comedies (just like every network and studio right now) can they at least find someone who is actually funny?
Really I just adore Rebel Wilson. p.s. If you don’t know her, she’s been in 6 movies this year and killed in all of them!
no, go away!
I am baffled as to how anyone who reads this site can claim to not know who Rebel Wilson is. She literally has been in a half dozen movies, at least, this year. She’s hilarious and has amazing comic timing. Sorry if she’s not American enough or skinny enough for some people to notice.
Obviously no one here agrees with you she is a great comedian
