Syfy has closed a deal to acquire Sky1′s action adventure series Sinbad. The deal was made with the series’ international distributor BBC Worldwide. Produced by Impossible Pictures, the company behind Walking With Dinosaurs and Primeval, Sinbad chronicles the famous Middle Eastern sailor’s voyages. The 12-episode first season of the series is expected to premiere on Syfy in April 2013. “When mystical meets muscle, anything can happen in this exciting, action-packed series,” said Syfy’s SVP, programming and original movies Chris Regina, who oversaw the acquisition. “With its strong production values and rich story, Sinbad will be a terrific addition to our primetime lineup.”
Word of the deal first leaked on the British Web site TVWise. Sinbad stars Elliot Knight in the title role, with Lost alum Naveen Andrews co-staring. It joins another international series that is being acquired by Syfy, the Canadian Continuum.

They continue to program through acquisitions. Why? Because they crush the creative life out of anything they touch themselves. No writer with any self-respect who works with them once ever wants to return.
Worst execs in the business. Time to clean house.
Please, please, please do not let syfy recast this with their usual subpar actors. Just show the original british show. If it’s anything like primeval it will be fantastic !!
No they are airing the awful British series called Sinbad, unfortunately they are not recasting.
What I wish is that they would pick up “Saving Hope” for its second season. NBC not only failed to renew, but relegated the last two episodes of Season I online. This show is really superb and has a devoted following. Not to mention that its ghostly premise would be right up SyFy’s alley.
