Teri Polo (Meet The Parents) and Sherri Saum (In Treatment) will topline ABC Family‘s drama pilot The Fosters, executive produced by Jennifer Lopez. The project tells the story of Stef (Polo) and Lena (Saum) Foster, a mixed-race couple who are raising a biological son, along with several adopted children. When Lena decides to take in Callie, a troubled teen with an abusive past, Callie’s disruptive ways threaten to turn the Fosters’ lives upside down. Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige wrote the pilot, from Lopez’s Nuyorican Prods. In addition to Lopez, executive producers include Simon Fields, Bredeweg, Paige, and Greg Gugliotta. Polo, repped by Gersh and manager Bob McGowan, is filming indie A Bit Of Bad Luck.

Love Teri polo !!! This is a great script , and a great role for Teri , glad to see the cast is Africian americian , Latina and white ,
Bill, you’re clearly a thoughtful guy with an excellent command of spelling and grammar, so I’m going to assume you’re right about this script!
Love the color of the cast, I mean that sincerely !! Good for abc foe doing this, other net works should follow suit. It’s great that there is not just one token person of color, great casting !
Teri Polo needs to be in more films. She lights up the screen!
They’re marketing this as a “mixed-race couple,” not a homosexual couple? ABC Family, with shows like this and the putrid “Pretty Little Liars,” is doing a vast disservice to American families. Jennifer Lopez should be ashamed of herself.
You should be ashamed of your bigotry and ignorance.
Well said, but don’t waste your time, someone like this is never going to see the connection between the hatred and discrimination placed upon mixed-race couples back in the day and homosexual couples today. As for ‘American families’, Toddy has also lumped that into a single statement, as though all American families are the same… they’re not, but again, bigots will ignore anything that flies in the face of their own agenda.
No one is forcing you to watch it.
“disservice to American Families”
Have you watched The Secret Lives of the American Teenager?
Probably not but I bet your children have. Watch an episode and then let’s really have the disservice to American Families conversation.
Wow! You are quite the bigot. Racist + homophobe = you.
Sheri Saum and Teri Polo are both great actresses. I hope the pilot does get a pick up to series.
P.S.
Pretty Little Liars is a critical darling and a ratings hit.
Sounds good. I just hope it is a drama not a “dramedy.”
This concept would probably work on cable, but not on broadcast. With this concept you are cutting off 40% of total audience from the beginning and this is part of audience that actually watches broadcast, not internet.
Personally, because of subject matter I would watch it only if it gets above 7.0 on Metascritic and Imdb.
Now I am even more excited for this show than I was before. Go ABCFamily and Lopez and Bredeweg and Paige – good on you for going after a well rounded cast that reflects modern/American society. And ABCFamily, I smell an instant classic television H-I-T !!!
Best wishes Sherri. They are lucky to get you.
A fresh idea with EXCELLENT casting. I’m in.
I agree that it should have gone to a cable network not ABC.. they cancel shows quicker than you can say,’Cancel that show’!
This show sounds amazing! I love Teri Polo and I know the producer. What a great show FOR families! Families come in all shapes and sizes…this is an awesome way for kids and adults to learn something and have some amazing entertainment!!!
