Discovery Communications’ TLC network is in discussions to pick up the celebrity genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are?, Bloomberg reported this evening citing people familiar with the discussions. NBC canceled the show, which traced celebrity family trees, earlier this year which resulted in the website associated with the show, Ancestry.com, losing a third of its market value. WDYTYA producers are also said to be in talks with other networks. Revival of the show would likely boost prospects for the sale of Ancestry.com, which has been talking to potential buyers. Shares in Ancestry.com rose less than 1% to $31.42 at market closing but rose as much as 3.7% in after-hours trading. Discovery rose 1.6% to $59.44. Who Do You Think You Are? was adapted from a British show and traced the ancestry of celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Gwyneth Paltrow and Spike Lee, using Ancestry.com’s genealogical data.

Well, this is better than “Toddlers and Tiaras” and “Honey Boo Boo”. Unfortunately, with the continued dummification of American audiences, it won’t do half as well in the ratings.
Agreed Sadly. Seriously, shows that exploit children or dumb down the American audience should be cancelled with the “stars” and the creators burned at the stake.
That is soooo true.
It was one of my favorite shows and I’ve been waiting patiently for it to return to television. Educational and interesting, I have no idea why this show would be cancelled when there is so much trash on TV. I hate this and hope it makes it’s way onto some network so my family can once again enjoy it!
All my friends and I love this show! I’m shocked that it has been canceled. The last show I liked that was canceled was Party Down. Was that on NBC? Probbly canceled by the same guy. Someone should be fired.
I agree; loved to watch WDYTYA. Anxiously awaiting it’s return to TV programing.
I agree with you!! I love this show. I do hope another network picks up the show. It’s not so much about each celebrity, it’s about the journey, it’s about gaining a better understanding of how to take the journey. It’s also about embracing why the journey should matter to each of is. As a summer replacement, this show was outstanding.
This was a very good show….a shame….the good ones go first….but it was on NBC, what do we expect?
This doesn’t fit in at all with The Loser Channel’s “look who you’re better than, America!” branding. Unless they change the title to: “What Kind of Loser/Freak Do You Think you Are?”
I’m not sure what NBC canceled it in the first place. The cost of production would have been extremely low since there is no reoccurring cast.
TLC would be a good home. I just hope they are able to get the same caliber of celebrities. It would be interesting to see them, every one and a while, do non-celebrity people of interest.
OHH worst decision NBC ever did is cancel that show Who do you think you are no wonder why NBC ratings are in the tank I hoping TLC pick it up I hope PBS does another season of Henry Lloyd Gates Finding your roots I sent out for 23 kit find out that I have percentage of white North European and and Asian bloodline LOL!
I enjoyed this series and always felt it would better off as a cable series with a more targeted audience. The show has a lot of potential.
Love “Who Do You Think You Are.” Hope it returns on TLC or some other cable outlet.
Dont do it. TLC will screw it up. Go elsewhere.
There are so many people here in the USA that have an interest in WHO THEY THINK THEY ARE, need to come up with another series that
would interest many folks, me included. Thanks
Who Do You Think You Are is an educational informative program. I always enjoyed watching… I hate that NBC cancelled the program and I hope that one of the cable channels picks this up.
Hope you pick up Who do you think you are.
I loved Who Do You Think You Are. I know TLC brings it back
i loved this show i hope they pick it up
This was the one show that my family and I actually looked forward to watching every week. We have strong interests in family ancestry and history, so this was the show for us. I hope TLC picks it up.
I hope another network picks up the show. I agree that I would like to see some non-celebrity’s stories as well. My personal journey into my mother’s birth family has been fascinating for me and led to her finding 13 1st cousins she did not know about. I got many good research tips from the show. A shame it was canceled.
Was looking online to see when the new episodes of Who Do You Think You are would air. Now I find it has been cancelled. BUMMER,I really looked forward to viewing it each week. So little on TV that is interesting to watch. Thanks for keeping us informed.
After watching an episode of Who do you think you are… I would be up late, pounding the computer. This show gave me the resources and at the same time entertained me. I LOVED THIS SHOW! Somebody please bring it back!
I AGREE IT IS THE BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!!
This was one show our family looked forward to watching and recording to watch again later. Without shows the calibre of Who Do You Think You Are on TV I guess we will be watching less and searching elsewhere for quality entertainment. I agree with the earlier comment–Toddlers and Tiaras etc. do reflect the dumbing down of America. So many channels yet less and less quality.
Was looking so forward to Season 4, “Who Do you Think You Are”, when I discovered that NBC cancelled the show. What a disappointment! It was an informative, educational, interesting and entertaining show, of coarse they cancelled it! The quality of shows offered today is insulting!! It feels like we’re being sucked into living in the movie “Idiocracy”. Are there any channels out there listening to the people????? PLEEEEEEEASE, some channel, pick this show up!!!!!
I am so disappointed to find out NBC cancelled this show. I hope another channel has the good sense to pick it up. Like others I looked forward to this show every week and feel like many of the new shows are promoting a dumbing down of our country.
PS….It’s Friday night and I am not watching NBC or an NBC owned channel.
Perfect show for Oprah to pick up on her network! Come on Oprah, check it out….great show!
Finally, something right in the middle of the ‘garbage bin’ there’s a show worth watching, and now it seems to be cancelled. What’s the matter, not enough violence, blood, sex, torture, or something just too boring for the common obnoxious viewer that impacts the ratings?
Please someone pick it up! The good go and another stupid sit-com comes on….Shame.
Tonight (Friday) I decided to check if “Who Do You Think You Are” was going to come on again as I loved that show. Decided to see if it was cancelled and sure enough. Only the good one’s go. I hardly watch TV anymore as there is not much worth watching on the major networks; even the “Learning Channel” can can barely live up to its title. Guess I will continue on living my own reality show consisting of reading and anything else I can find to do besides watching television. PBS is the only channel worth watching these days. I am insulted at the garbage thrown at us but, apparently, there are enough viewers out there who lap it up and can’t wait for more!
