An Australian TV movie that chronicles the WikiLeaks founder’s years as a teenage computer hacker in Melbourne in the late 1980s screens Saturday at the Toronto International Film Festival. Newcomer Alex Williams plays Assange, with Rachel Griffiths as his activist mother Christine, Laura Wheelwright as his girlfriend, and Anthony LaPaglia as the cop who investigates the case. Written and directed by Robert Connolly and based on the 1997 novel Underground: Tales Of Hacking, Madness And Obsession On The Electronic Frontier by Suelette Dreyfus, the telepic was commissioned by Australia’s Network Ten, which will air it next month. NBCUniversal International is distributing worldwide. Assange is currently holed up inside the Ecuadorian Embassy in London to avoid being arrested and extradited to Sweden for questioning about alleged sexual misconduct or to the U.S. over Wikileaks’ release of confidential diplomatic information.

Surely not based on “a novel?”
Julian Assange = Angelina Jolie
False = patriotism
False = Knight
False = heroism
False = true
I agree Andrey Min’kov.
He is being built up as a knight in shining armour. How about him facing up to the rape allegations. I know people like him because he has shone a light on US misdeeds but I think he is rather a self-seeking individual and one who thinks he doesn’t have to abide by laws like the rest of us. Of course he will be made out an “Aussie hero”, being Australian he can do no wrong! (Or at least a bit of a “loveable larrikin” with no real harm in him, far from the truth in my opinion)
I hope to see a happy ending. The slamming of a cell door.
Do not worry sir! God already knows.
Personally, I am inspired by Julian…
We need more transparency and accountability in our governments. I mean, that’s what I have voted for time and again only to be disappointed by their empty promises. I am glad that Wikileaks and Julian are providing the service which was supposed to be implemented years ago, if promises were kept…
Bravo to all involved in the production of this film!
Infinite love is the only truth, everything else is illusion
You can tell by the music and the cast that has been chosen that it is going to be an “in praise of Julian” film. If the guy had been French or even English Aussies wouldn’t have a good word to say about him!
As soon as someone does something of REAL hero qualities.. the goon squads come and write something to down grade them. same same
Watch for the patterns. It is ALWAYS the same
