EXCLUSIVE: VH1 has picked up Model Employee, a new reality competition series featuring eight models vying for the chance of becoming the face of the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. American model Chrissy Teigen will host of the series from Undercover Boss producer Studio Lambert, which has received an eight-episode order for a premiere in early 2013.
The contestants — Alexis Farmer, Aspen Widowson, Britany Trankino, Jassmine Amos, Johanna Daru, Shannone Holt, Sonja Ewy and Shah Granville — will be put through a series of challenges designed to test not only their modeling abilities, but also their working knowledge of the hotel. That will involve them performing some of the dirtiest and most physically exhausting jobs that make the hotel function, including cleaning Mandalay Bay’s signature shark tank or sifting through all of the resort’s trash for recyclable items. The contestants will also put their modeling skills to work in front of a panel of judges that includes Vanessa Branch, former Orbit Gum spokes model, Patrick Miller, VP of Marketing at Mandalay Bay, and Jimmy Smith, CEO and Chief Creative Officer of Amusement Park Entertainment. The winner will get to represent Mandalay Bay with a $100,000 year- long spokes -model contract. “Watching really pretty people do some not so pretty work in hopes of truly understanding the brand they hope to represent is an eye-opening experience, and lots of fun to watch,” said Jeff Olde, EVP of Original Programming & Production at VH1.
Model Employee is executive produced by Eli Holzman and Stephen Lambert for Studio Lambert. Troy Searer is the showrunner and executive producer. The series was created by veteran Model Agent Michael Flutie who also serves as executive producer.
VH1 is coming off a strong summer, with new series Love And Hip Hop: Atlanta ranking as the top cable reality series in adults 18-49 and women 18-49 and Single Ladies finishing its second season as the #1 ad-supported regularly scheduled scripted series of the summer among women 18-49.

This show sounds really dumb and will probably get canceled because it won’t rate just like ever other “advertiser friendly” show VH1 has done. VH1 has a great brand w/ shows that rate like Basketball Wives, Love and Hip Hop, Single Ladies and Mob Wives – why do something that they know won’t work. They have tried being family friendly and nice, but that is TLC, not VH1. If VH1 wants to do competition shows again, they need to get back to their roots. Back to Rock of Love, Flavor of Love type raunchy competition shows that their audience actually wants to watch. I applaud Studio Lambert for selling it, as they have sold a business type show to every other network in town, but come on VH1…
BORING. Come on VH1 you are back on top! At least get a celebrity to host this!
I think this sounds interesting! It will be different to see models actually DO work, and not just complain about sitting in front of a camera. I’ll be watching!
“Watching really pretty people do some not so pretty work… is an eye-opening experience, and lots of fun to watch,” said Jeff Olde. UGH. EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH THIS CHANNEL.
Chrissy is hilarious. I think she’ll make a great host.
humm is there a new executive there?? must be this wont work
start packing
This show sounds great and I’m happy to have been called to cast talent to surprise the models! If you don’t live in Las Vegas, don’t be too quick to judge. They had to clean a banquet hall?? Yikes! I leave those events with my entertainers, after bookings, and believe me they are a big mess the size of a football field! A lot of pretty people live here and film reality shows doing nothing but shopping, getting their hair/nails done, or hanging out by pools and partying. This will be a GOOD show portraying what you have to do to be the new face of the Mandalay Bay for a year and to win $100,000! The models had NO idea they had to get down and dirty in Sin City!
