EXCLUSIVE: New Girl star Zooey Deschanel is expanding her relationship with the series’ network, Fox, and producing entities, 20th Century Fox TV and Chernin Entertainment. Deschanel is executive producing Must Be Nice, a comedy written by New Girl consulting producer J.J. Philbin, which has sold to Fox with a script commitment. 20th TV and studio-based Chernin Entertainment are producing along with Deschanel’s Hello Giggles.
Must Be Nice explores the generation gap between two women who are only 7 years apart when a single, chaotic, 27 year-old moves in with her more responsible, 34-year-old, married sister. Philbin and Deschanel will executive produce with Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope and Deschanel’s Hello Giggles partners Sophia Rossi and Molly McAleer (2 Broke Girls). Deschanel, Rossi and McAleer last year launched female-centric Web site Hello Giggles, and are now expanding their brand to television.
This marks the second comedy project for Philbin this season. She also is executive producing High Life, from the brother-and-sister writing duo Will Reiser (50/50) and Robin Reiser. The project, also from 20th TV, is at NBC with a put pilot commitment. Deschanel is with CAA and Seven Summits. UTA reps Rossi and Philbin who is managed by 3 Arts. McAleer is repped by WME and Mosaic.

If Hello Giggles produces a pilot, I just…I mean…I…I’m just going to have to end it. Goodbye, friends!
I hope the sisters go out on a double date that goes hilariously wrong but only after they’ve had a good montage of trying on clothes.
Love Zooey in New Girl and can’t wait to see what else she comes up with! She and other female producers have inspired my daughter to become one as well! Keep up the AWESOME work!
Network comedies are such sell outs.
bring on the ukuleles.
This new show sounds almost as stupid as the show in which Zoey is currently starring.
I take it you haven’t seen ‘New Girl’ then?
I’ve seen it. I like stupid humor when it makes me laugh, but stupidity for the sake of being stupid? No thank you.
That sounds almost exactly like the show “What I Like About You.” that Amanda Bynes was in a while back.
I love Zoey, but couldn’t tv networks be a little original for once?
I love Zooey Too. She is an awesome actress and a funny woman.
Why JJ Philpin?!!…. please, nepotism at it’s best. I wish my father could use his clout in the Millionaire heyday to get me a job at SNL.. what a joke.
JEFF…get a clue. I love anytime someone has someone famous in their family its obviously neopotism. Yes, JJ got hired on Heroes, developed with Shonda Rhimes, Greg Berlanti and has become sought after in both comedy and drama based solely on her last name. And yes, its obvious that Zooey D is a HUGE Regis fan and just had to get in with him so she said – I have to develop with his daughter – that will definitely clinch it for me. Here’s an idea – someone who has someone famous in their family – can also be talented. Just because you haven’t caught your break yet, or haven’t had that success doesn’t mean you need to attack others and try to justify it in this manner. Yes, someone might get one job because of a relative, but they wouldn’t have the success JJ has had because of it. And if you knew her, you would know that she doesn’t trade off her family name at all. And oh yeah, I think its Philbin – not Philpin as you have it (but then again the B and P are pretty close on the keyboard).
Great Job Zooey; Good business strategy!
Can’t wait to see it.
Eny thing u r in will b great! Keep it clean.love u
Zooey Deschanel voted as new Princess of comedy.
I had no idea Regis’ daughter is behind New Girl and that she is teaming up with the star of the show Zooey Deschanel to do more shows. I like the quirkyness of the show. I used to watch oddballs shows growing up like Taxi, Mork and Mindy and Married With Children.
