ABC has ordered two scripts each of freshman dramas Last Resort and 666 Park Ave. They join ABC’s new comedy The Neighbors, which received three-script pickup last week. Both Last Resort and 666 Park Ave opened below expectations with a 2.2 and 2.1 adults 18-49 Live+same day rating but have
been major DVR gainers. They logged a respectable 3.2 18-49 rating each for their debuts after a Live+7 gain of 45% and 52%, respectively. Last night’s episode of Last Resort drew a 1.7 demo rating in Live+same day.

So I guess they are going to do what they did with Pan Am with these two?
You mean 1 additional episode to the order and then done?
Yeah exactly like that and instead of ordering just one more they ordered two
That Shield magic has all but run out.
Not being ‘in the industry’ – maybe someone in the industry can tell me how can series’ writers have a “vision” for a show (like Last Resort or 666 Park Avenue) and conceive of a long range story arc – when they are given these 2 and 3 script deals. No wonder series television is so erratic and characters so thinly drawn when they can’t be written for more than a week at a time.
I’m surprised 666 Park Ave. isn’t doing better. It’s fluff storytelling but it’s fun, has a great cast and it’s at least unique compared to other dramas.
Ratings will not perk up for either though and I’ll be their cancellation will happen by the spring
Not too long ago someone made a good point of the risks of launching a new show on Sundays in the fall given the already-strong competition plus football.
Sadly, Last Resort is probably the best new drama of the season. I say sadly, because it’s still not that good. As riverbed states, it’s nowhere on the same playing field as The Shield. Which is a huge disappointment considering the wealth of the material. They actually manage to do a pretty decent job of balancing the politics and have created some three-dimensional and realistically complex characters. However, the sprawling cast of characters is forever getting away from what this hour-long can handle, particularly with the constant commercial interruptions of network TV. But the worst part is the way the design of the show has been failed by often sub-par writing. So while Last Resort may somehow be the best new drama of the season amidst a bevy of mediocrity, it’s also the most disappointing.
666 Park Avenue, on the other hand, has turned out to be exactly the kind of dumb fun it promised to be, and leads Dave Annable and Rachel Taylor are delivering credible performances far above and beyond what this kind of genre material usually offers.
Nothing says “I love you” like a two script commitment.
Get smart, ABC — 666 Park deserves 666 more episodes!
This show has a lot of potential. I believe that the writers and producers are trying to make a product that has in depth characters and a compelling up to date relevant story arc. In order for them to do this properly, the events will not be easily tied up at the end of each episode which may leave some folks unresolved. Unfortunately, ABC seems to have a tendency to want the quick return on investment and will not give the show the time needed to develop neither the story nor the characters to a point where the show’s momentum with the ratings will allow the show to stand on its own. I see a great conspiracy story in the making, and I think the actors do make the characters believable. I hope this show gets more chances
Glad that these two shows are doing OK. 666 in particular has exceeded my expectations, but perhaps my expectations were unreasonably low given the strong cast.
Why ABC even thinks both shows are going to get any better based on their stagnant ratings and poor scripts are beyond comprehension. Get the two extra episodes made and just be done with both shows. Move Nashville to 666′s spot next month.
Last Resort is awesome, the more episodes it get the better.
Go 666 Park!!! Maybe this show does have some legs. I really like it. I think Rachel Taylor is doing wonderful work. I love Terry and Vannessa together. I think the cast as a whole keeps it going…I also think Tony the doorman is funny too. Lets keep this show on the air and see where they all go because the writing is fun and very scary at times too. But then again, I’m a scaredy cat.
The Last Resort needs to wave the white flag. I called it Bodywash considering it felt like SoapTV FOR MEN. @Brian, Copper followed by Chicago Fire are two better shows. NBC gets one right since Life.
Fingers crossed these both find audiences. Both are shows we will watch the night of airing, and the only broadcast net shows that we look forward to.
I gave up on Last Resort in the middle of 3-d episode. First episode was good enough. Second was kinda ok. And I was watching 3-d and I was just thinking that it’s quite boring. And it’s the same again and again. They will stuck on that island forever. And they will fight some local criminals and Robert Patrick will be giving bad looks to good guys every 5 minutes…
And I just don’t care about any of those characters. They are all one dimension. And I don’t care what will happen to them. And I feel that they will stuck on that island forever. And it’s just boring. Show like Last Resort should be like a mini-series. For 6-8 episodes. And then finish their story. Who wants to see for 20 episodes and then for 20 more in second season like they will be in minor troubles will locals every week? Or that girl in bar and that pretty man from submarine will flirt?
Have not seen 666 but Last resort should be one’s last resort for entertainment. Providing there is absolutely no other shows on the air. It looks like 1980′s TV with Soap actors. It is predictable, with cheap production value and stock cliche bad guys and good guys. More of ABC’s glossed up junk. Common Shawn you can do better than this garbage.
Nashville is kinda overrated. It couldn’t retain modern family’s massive lead in. How will it do against football
Other stories here about 2 and 3 episode pickups relay the total number of episodes in the season. Why not here? How many episodes of Last Resort will be filmed? It’s one of my favorite new shows (other one is Nashville) so I want it to succeed. It reminds me of Lost. The interaction between Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman is terrific. I always watch it online, so I wonder if I’m counted in ratings at all.
I like 666 Park Avenue. That being said I hope it gets more scripts but that being said. I am just wondering how the networks hope to keep viewer demand up if they cancel shows that have only ran 2-3 times since thier debut? How do they expect viewers to react when all the sudden a show they liked is gone. They need to give a show more then 3 months to see if it is going to do well just because it is not the top show on the network does not mean it should be considered for cancellation. Also I think it would be great if their were less “reality, dancing and singing” shows on that just gets old I am ready for a series to hold my attention and one of the ones that does is 666. I am not looking for grand visions I just want to be entertained after a long day. At the end of the day Ratings will only get you so far. If the ratings are not what one thought it would be perhaps it is the writing that needs to be looked out before the plug is pulled on a show.
i love 666,its spooky and has great potential,i hope they keep it. my son also loves it,so ,that being said—–go 666!!!!
i want to join the 666
