ABC has tapped veteran comedy writer-producers David Richardson (Two And A Half Men) and Ian Gurvitz (Frasier) to write the script for The Guys, a multi-camera comedy starring and executive produced by Tony Danza and executive produced by Vince Vaughn. The project revolves around three longtime male friends in Act Three of their lives. Danza is set to play one of the guys, with John Goodman eyed for another lead. The Guys reunites Danza with Gurvitz who created/executive produced the 1997 Danza sitcom The Tony Danza Show on NBC.
ABC originally bought The Guys, based on an idea by Danza and his manager Dan Farah, in April for this development cycle. Vaughn is executive producing the ABC Studios-produced comedy with his producing partner at Wild West Picture Show Prods. Peter Billingsley as well as Danza and Farah. Richardson is with UTA and Industry; Gurvitz with APA and Brillstein.

Will his character be named ‘Tony’?
Wasn’t particularly interested, but John Goodman makes things look a lot more interesting.
Gurvitz made a small indie movie that was pretty interesting.
Ditch the generic title and get Goodman on board, and this could be interesting.
“Men of a Certain Age” anyone?
Danza rocks; what a great, great guy.
TV was made for him!
Good luck Tony Danza!
Hearing that Goodman is a done deal, and that its being developed to be Danza and Goodman’s comeback sitcom and that another iconic actor is circling the third role. THE GUYS sounds like my new favorite show!!!! Golden Girls for guys. Love it!!
Love the title. Sounds like a classic sitcom indeed! The Guys. Who will be the third? Who are you hearing???
Abc is bringing back the classic feeling multi cams!! Way to be paul lee!!! Great idea for a show!
ABC really isn’t very good with multi-cams. Need I remind you of Work It? Or perhaps Hank? Or Last Misogynist Standing?
need i remind you of Taxi and Who’s The Boss?
there is a time for all great things to comeback. lets hope this is one of those times…
I’m hearing Saverio Guerra from Becker and Curb Your Enthusiasm might be involved with this.
Yay Ian! One of the few good guys!
Nice to hear Danza has reunited with Gurvitz. Unfortunately, viewers don’t want to be reunited with Danza.
Ryan, you sound like an angry idiot. Once an icon, always an icon. You’ve got a lot to learn young man. I hope this isn’t who I think it is. – R.L
Icon?
Wow. People just hand that phrase out like it’s candy corn nowadays.
this sounds awesome. glad to hear its coming together. Nice work by Farah and Billingsley, the hustle behind this one!
Danza is an icon
Goodman is an icon
writers – don’t mess this up!
talk about an all star line up. if this doesnt become a hit show, I will give up on television.
Love it.
So…Men of a Certain Age as a half hour sitcom?
W O W ! ABC really seems to be on a roll finding great comedy concepts this season. If only they can execute them, then a turnaround can commence for them. They’ve got three, potentially four, comedies on their current schedule that need to go ASAP. And they’ve got another one waiting in the wings for midseason that will arrive DOA, How To Live With Your Parents….Looks and sounds Absolutely PATHETIC! The trailer is unwatchable, although perves will dig it.
I would love to see both Danza and Goodman return to TV in a sitcom, their both very talented and i think they would make a great pairing. With Tim Allen and Ed O’niel back plus Jim Belushi on the way and now this, things are really looking up in sitcom land.
love this! richardson is a hilarious writer (simpsons, malcom in the middle, manhattan, az), great guy, and most likely a better golfer than danza, goodman, and the third mystery cast member combined, unless they are casting john daly, which isn’t a bad idea…
very excited for this.
Agreed! I remember Richardson’s Humanitas-Winning episode of LARROQUETTE – classic! He’s one of the good guys and one of the most genius writer/producers in the business. Can’t wait for this show!
this sounds awesome. Goodman, and Danza, returning in the same sitcom? Sounds like a home run.
Tony Danza isn’t just the Boss, Tony Danza is the law! Way to Go Dan FARAH, Peter Billingsley and Vince Vaughn!
