EXCLUSIVE: The title of Adam Sandler‘s next film will be Ridiculous 6, and it’s a comedy Western that Paramount Pictures has committed to put into production in April. This is the laffer that Sandler was going to make at Sony before Happy Madison Productions moved it to Paramount. The title is reminiscent of the 1960 United Artists pic The Magnificent Seven that starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson and James Coburn, the drama about seven gunfighters drafted to protect a Mexican town, so might this be a variation featuring inept gunslingers? The studio would not go beyond confirming the title and the terrain.
Sandler is going to write it with Tim Herlihy, and he will star in it and produce with Happy Madison. The film is already slated for Spring Break weekend 2014. Reports are attributing the move from Sony as being caused by that studio’s fiscal shortcomings — is Sony saving up for an expected summer 2013 start date on the Ghostbusters sequel, I’m wondering — but I think Sandler needs a timeout from that studio anyway. Herlihy and Sandler go back to his early, better stuff, before they’d completely shaken off the irreverence from their Saturday Night Live days together. Their collaborations include Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Little Nicky and Mr. Deeds, and Herlihy has been involved in producing capacities on some of the more recent films, some of which have felt like the cast has a better time together than the audience is having as they watch.
I keep hoping that Sandler will rise to the occasion with another Wedding Singer, and I think he might be shaken out of his comfort zone by the misfires Jack And Jill and That’s My Boy. But most of his films still make money, with the animated Hotel Transylvania grossing $188 million worldwide so far. I go back with Sandler as far as his Saturday Night Live days, and his off-the-wall characters that included the Herlihy Boy, Opera Man and Cajun Man. I’d love to see him get back to that level of unpredictability again. Here is a reminder:

I agree — Sandler is a talented guy and very naturally funny. I would love to see him do something good. He’s going to crack one of his next films, and then people will look at this “That’s My Boy” and the Brother/Sister movie as a blip in an otherwise successful and funny career.
Go Opera Man! Next Flick Could Be Opera Man Meets “The Three Amigos.” “Jack And Jill”? They Can’t All Be Shakespeare, But Bet It Brought In Rental Buck$.
Ms. Twin
“…crack ONE OF his next films…”? Yeah, we’re all waiting.
But at this rate, there’ll be more “blips” than there are stars in the sky.
The other comedian I’m rooting for in a similar way is Mike Myers. When that guy is funny, there’s no one funnier I can think of. I’m a big fan going back to all of his SNL characters. And he’s managed to create 3 very original characters/franchises in Wayne’s World, Shrek, and Austin Powers. Even with some major misses, that’s a very good track record.
Adam Sandler has been supplanted by the Hangover guys and Steve Carrell. He’s trapped in the past. His time has come and gone. It happens in Hollywood. Hopefully he can shift over into some good character parts and reinvent himself. I submit his audience has grown up more than he has.
That sounds like it be good movie and funny Adam needs do a good hit movie it’s been awhile !
So is this comedy going to be funny?
Scratch that, I read it again and saw Adam Sandler will be in it. So no.

Well this will be a bomb for Paramount…. no dime of profits on this one…a Western spoof-comedy?….. I’m not sure how any Studio or anybody is still letting Sandler making movies… this guys is not funny an not talented… same as Rob Schneider….
His movies make money (at least until recently) that’s why
Seriously though…when is Hollywood going to wake up and realize that Sandler isn’t that great of an actor or comedian? He’s had horrible movie after horrible movie and yet the studios still keep giving him a chance. Maybe if this clown got some acting lessons, he might be relevant but as long as he keeps delivering drivel as he has been of late, nobody will take him seriously.
Haven’t we been dumbed down enough by Sandler?
To the idiots saying Adam Sandler isn’t funny… apparently he’s interesting enough for all of you morons to scour the internet begging for the opportunity to bitch about him.
When you die and go to hell, I hope your eternal punishment is being forced to watch Jack and Jill, back to back, FOREVER!
(and you have to pee the entire time, but you can’t!)
“To the idiots saying Adam Sandler isn’t funny… When you die and go to hell, I hope your eternal punishment is being forced to watch Jack and Jill, back to back, FOREVER!”
So you defend Sandler, and then admit that his movies are so bad they should be used as torture in hell?
With friends like you…
Sandler is hilarious and a good guy. He’s done some really bad movies, but that’s true for nearly every prolific actor out there. He’s also done some solid ones. If anyone knows how to write a script for Sandler, it’s Herlihy. These guys were roommates at NYU before Sandler ever got started.
Sandler is one of he funniest actors. I can relate to his movies.
I go to a movie theatre showing a sandler movie and it full of people waiting to see the Adam Sandler movie. Besides the fact that you guys say he makes bad movies prove that you still watch his movies. How else would you know?
Eternal punishment was watching Jack and Jill. Sandler and his group make corny choices. It worked when he was young and funny, but now he’s older and feels not so funny. He’s got some decent acting ability, perhaps a decent film would make his movies feel less pathetic.
So, let me see: Sandler, Spade, Schneider, and whichever other cronies need to pay their mortgage (Kevin Nealon? Chris Rock? Kevin James? or maybe they throw Chris Kattan a bone this time?), in cowboy hats, having trouble riding horses, scoring impossibly hot Mexican babes, and getting in all sorts of wacky trouble with the banditos, until Schneider says “You can do eeet!!” for the thousandth time and all is well in the Baja. Hey Tim, you can mail my check to the WGA. You’re welcome.
Boy howdy pardner that there is a movin’ picture show we all want to go and pay a dime to see! Yee-Haw you sure done sold me and my boys on that one! These new fangled funny flicker shows are the wave of the future! This just might be the funniest kinetoscope entertainment since old Mel Brooks did Blazing Saddles! Hot dang with women and whiskey! I can’t wait to see The Ridiculous Six!
Sony should be relieved! Good luck with that Paramount. Although Rob Moore may do a better job dealing with his BFF Sandler, reigning in costs and cutting good financial terms for the studio than Amy “YES to Anything” Pascal has done.
please dear god, dont let this movie be ridiculous… let it be funny…
Sandler does have his moments, good and bad. At least he is out there trying. Have to admit some of his films are shite but at the same time some are golden, how many films have you seen a happy Gilmore golf swing in now ????
Westerns are back, Tarantino has brought them back, after violence comes humour to cope. Fingers crossed he gets some quality to play the other 5.
Hmmmm I’m thinking Spacey, Pacino , Crowe, Reeves and Bale.
Do it for the fun of it lads.
Apparently the people complaining about Adam Sandler is too young to remember his time on SNL! His voices from his skits are what made Sandler the actor he is today! I absolutely love this man!!! My favorite Actor!!! Don’t ever change Sand MAN!!!
adam sandler is the g.o.a.t
Adam Sandler, my favorite actor
