Anna Kendrick has added another music-heavy film to her to-do list, signing on to star in The Last 5 Years, an adaptation of the off-Broadway play. Richard LaGravenese adapted the film from Tony-winning composer-lyricist Jason Robert Brown’s musical and will direct. International sales and finance outfit The Exchange has acquired all international rights and will sell the pic at the American Film Market.
The Last 5 Years is a musical deconstruction of the love affair and marriage of Cathy (Kendrick), a struggling actress, and Jamie, a rising novelist, told through emotionally powerful and comic songs from their individual perspectives. It premiered off-Broadway in 2002 and has spawned countless productions worldwide. Producers include LaGravenese, Lucky Monkey Pictures, Lauren Versel, Kurt Deutsch, and Janet Brenner.
Kendrick currently stars in the Universal comedy Pitch Perfect about a college a cappella team Pic has grossed $45.5 million domestically since its September 28 premiere.

Could be great.
She seems too young for the role.
This is an incredible score! Anna is an incredible talent and has been making musicals cool since CAMP! It will be very interesting to see this as a film since it is staged without the two leads interacting at all except for one song in the middle. Cannot wait for this one.
She is an amazing talent. She was an absolute scene-stealer in Twilight and everything I’ve seen her in since has been great.
Very excited for this. I think she’s incredibly talented and it’s great to see her getting more leading roles.
