BBC America has made it official, renewing its first original scripted series, Copper, for a second season. The news comes ahead of the period drama’s Season 1 finale Sunday. The channel has ordered 13 episodes for Copper, which is produced by Cineflix Studios, vs. 10 for its freshman season. It marked BBC America and Cineflix’s first original scripted series. “Copper has proven to be a perfect fit for the channel,” said Perry Simon, General Manager, Channels, BBC Worldwide America.
The series, which centers on an Irish immigrant cop (Tom Weston-Jones) in 1864 New York, premiered in August with 1.1 million total viewers, the largest audience ever for a BBC America series debut. It is the network’s highest-rated drama to date, averaging over one million viewers a week. The series is created by Tom Fontana and Will Rokos. Season one executive producers include Barry Levinson, Fontana, Rokos, Christina Wayne, Jim Finnerty, Sherri Rufh, Sam Berliner, Sally Catto and Katherine Buck. In addition to Copper returning in 2013, BBC America’s second original scripted series Orphan Black, starring Tatiana Maslany, is set to premiere in Spring 2013.

YEAH!!!!! This is my favorite show! Fantastic plot twists!
Is anyone watching the series?
I love this series, Kevin is wonderfully bad and good at the same time. Looking forward to season 2.
Break out series….please!!! Oh, sorry the first episode was a break out! Typical BBC spin. Not hard to be a break out heavily marketed first episode on BBC America’s well below average ratings. This was a disappointing series with abysmal cable ratings. This is no Breaking Bad, Mad Men or Walking Dead. More spin from our friends at BBC America.
So excited Copper has been renewed! Congrats to everyone in the Copper family
Plenty of people are watching it. If you aren’t, you should start. BBC America is making the dvd’s available October 30th and I believe you can get them on I-Tunes.
Awesome cast, costumes, lots of drama and suspense.
Fabulous series thanks to an amazing crew from I.A.T.S.E in Toronto. The best crews in the world!!!!!!
Best t.v. drama to come along in YEARS!! So thrilled for a season 2!
I wanted to like it, but it’s just not good. The sets look like they cost about twenty bucks and it pulls me right out of the show. The directing is also sloppy.
An outstanding series, and I am glad it will be returning.
I dig this show but agree, they need to hire better directors in season 2. Though the last few episodes have been awesome. They need to use Kevin Ryan more. He’s a HOTTIE!
Dull show with low ratings.
love this show. excited for 2nd season and so glad it will now go for 13 episodes. Love all the characters, It definately is NOT a dull show. peace
So happy to hear that this is being renewed….I love this show. At first I thought it moved a bit slow, and then as I got into it, I realized, the pace was perfect for this story…I love the texture, the sepia tones…Just a lovely piece….Thank you BBCA!!!!
Love this show, I love all the twists and turns. You never know what is going to happen next. So glad it has been renewed.
This is an interesting premise for a show. It started out slow, but the characters locked you in and provided hints of more to come. I was intrigued, so I watched with growing interest… until episode 6. At 6, it started to unravel. And it just got worse and worse. The plot twist for the series was downright stupid. I mean absolutely horrible with a lack of foresight. Whoever thought that was a good call is a damn fool. The only thing this show had going for it was loyalty and they chucked that out the window for a lackluster and cliched twist. I stopped at 9 and won’t being coming back… ever.
i loved this show from the start esecially tom-weston jones very very handsome. I m so glad it has been renewed will getball my friends to watch .
Can’t wait for season two. Well written.
I love the show and I know, because of the state of the media in the US, you have to get your info and history from other countries. That may not be the case here but I grew up on the streets where this story takes place and even when I was a kid,in the fifties, there
were still very many Irish cops. I know the sets are man made and the people are actors but for one hour each week I am taken back to 1864 in BBC’s time machine.
Excellent show! Can’t wait for season 2!!
I love this show and I love Kevin. I can not wait for copper to return!!! Love the costumes and the feel of being there in 1864. Awesome.
I missed a couple of episodes of Copper but what I scene was the best damn show . It’s like the old westerns shows I was brought up on but better. I can’t wait to second season comes out
