UPDATE, 10:22 AM: The production company behind Sesame Street is not happy with the new Obama campaign ad slamming Mitt Romney and featuring footage of Big Bird (see it below). “Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns. We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down,” the company said today on its website. The Obama camp is reviewing Sesame Workshop’s concerns, a campaign aide told Deadline. Big Bird has become part of this year’s presidential contest since Romney reaffirmed in the first debate his plan to cut federal funding to PBS. The GOP candidate said he would make the cut despite his love of Big Bird.

Oh yeah, more concerned about keeping Big Bird employed than finding a job for the millions of those who are unemployed….wow.
Yep!! You got it. PBS can fund themselves with donations from people who support them..not TAX Dollars!!
And Corporations support them too. Many of PBS’s shows, including Sesame Street, are so heavily funded by local and national corporations it isn’t funny. On a daily basis, viewers sit through at least two minutes of sponsor advertisements before the show starts.
As for the ad, at least it is funny, but it sounds more like what a late night television writer would do. All we are missing is the intro from Stephen Colbert, Jay Leno, David Letterman, Jimmy Fallon, or Jimmy Kimmel.
Brought to you by the number 1,000,000,000 and the letter Franchise.
Man that is awful. My donations are going to that garbage?
An otherwise crack team took Rove’s bait? The President’s re-election is now aligning itself with an eight foot yellow bird puppet?
I don’t think Obama should be involved in this, but it was damn funny! XD
BIG BIRD Makes more money than Romney…So why does he need Tax-Payer Welfare?
think this ad will backfire – comes off as childish and insincere.
And now every can see how empty and cynical our current President is. This is what he’s campaigning on. Big bird. Sure, will canceling a PBS subsidy solve our economic problems? No. But getting rid of a 400 million dollar subsidy is not going to kill a show that makes an absolute fortune in the open market on merch. This and the “war on women” is all Obama has left to run on. Awesome.
If nothing else, this ad shows that the Obama campaign has a sense of humor. I really don’t believe that they expect anyone to take this seriously. It just shows how absurd Romney et al. can be.
I absolutely agree with you. This is clearly a parody with the intent to display the disturbing truth of Mitt Romney’s error of judgement.
Isn’t that the voice of the VO guy from “Real Time with Bill Maher”? Are we sure this isn’t just one of their satirical spots made for the show?
Barack Obama is losing his mind. First he has that awful debate now this moronic ad?
Wow. Some real geniuses at work in the Obama camp. This is embarrassing for our country.
So now Obama and his cronies has mentioned Big Bird around 8 or 9 times, but has mentioned Libya and how he plans to fix the economy 0 times.
Also, it seems that Big Bird is SO popular, why can’t he and his Sesame Street crew survive in the private market? It seems like they wouldn’t have a difficult time finding sponsors. I am sure Clooney and Longoria alone could foot the bill.
Once again, the Obama campaign and his childish left wing followers just focus on the small things. And this is who you want to lead our country? Please. Grow up!
I think the point of the public funding public radio and television is to keep the content providers beholden to the people, not the corporate profits. And if Clooney, Longoria, or any other private person funded “Sesame Street”, there’s a chance that “Sesame Street” would start incorporating the views of its donors into its programming. By keeping the public involved, “we, the people” are the “owners” of the content, and “Sesame Street” continues to provide programming that makes us better human beings.
Bow down and worship the false deity known as “We the People”!!!
We the owners may not agree with Obama using Big Bird in his campaign , obviously “we the people” have no choice in that matter.
wow…even for a obama supporter that was lame
okay, a presidential candidate declaring war on an educational children puppet. check. a horde of right wingers employed to beef up any comments thread with bull in order to give comfort to their fearless leader. check.
I hope somebody is making some serious money off of this. I do hope it is something other than the douchey karl roves taking money from big fat cat donors to get all these trolls rolling because otherwise this is as productive for economic growth, and depressive, as a macdonalds job.
all in all, however, a fine job of redistributing wealth among the unemployed rightwing-wacko, so there is a silver lining to anything, after all. good luck with this hawala for the ayn rand worshippers. keep it up, people. and hope you have that christmas mall helper job lined up for november.
Well, he can’t run on his record, so this is what we are left with.
Romney’s remark was dumb, but this ad isn’t the way to go. Sesame Street has already asked them to take it down.
The truth hurts some of you, doesn’t it? Very direct point is there are much bigger fish to fry than PBS subsidies. That’s been the problem with the far right all along. They want to take care of the minutiae first and pass the buck on the big stuff to the next generation.
Makes Obama seem desperate, kind of like the Joe the Plumber ad. Is that your best defense after roundly losing the debate?
Big Mistake.
Even worse than the subject of the ad is the flow. Watch it with the sound off. The sequence is all wrong.
The ad shows Obama and then Madoff, visually equating the two. Then the last half alternates between Big Bird and Romney constantly, transferring the good feelings every one has for Big Bird directly to Romney. Did the Romney team make this ad?
We’re all going down with Big Bird. The system produces candidates completely beholden to their financiers and not to the good of the country as a whole. Political parties have made progress, growth, and compromise impossible. Ads like this one illustrate how great the divide is in philosophies.
It’s a brilliant ad it’s funny and it’s very clever.
Do you know the way to get, how to get to Sesame Street?
He should have left this to the funnyordies of the world who have already run with this concept. A legit political commercial can never do a (non)-issue like this comedic justice and just leaves the campaign looking desperate.
The era of Obama mania is over….. He’s got nothing, nothing to run on. It’s a zero sum gain campaign.
THAT WAS HILARIOUS! You go get the bad guys Romney. I feel safer already. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
