EXCLUSIVE: CBS has put in development Nobody Trusts Maz, a multi-camera family comedy from veteran writer-producer Phoef Sutton (Cheers) starring Iranian American actor-comedian Maz Jobrani. The project, from CBS TV Studios and studio-based Tannenbaum Co., is described as a show about raising a family in modern day, multi-ethnic America. It centers on Maz (Jobrani) and Jenny — a young couple living the American Dream with a house in the suburbs and two kids. The only thing is: Jenny is Irish-American and Maz is Persian-American. To them it’s no big deal but to her father and his mother it’s a very big deal. Maz’s Upper–Class Persian mother feels that he married beneath himself, while Jenny’s father feels that Maz must have al-Qaeda somewhere in his background. Nobody trusts anybody…until they get to know them. Sutton, Eric and Kim Tannenbaum executive produce.
In addition to his standup career (he is a member of the Axis Of Evil comedy group), Jobrani, who in real life is married to an Indian-American lawyer and has two kids, has appeared on a number of TV series. His regular/recurring credits include ABC’s Knights Of Prosperity and Better Off Ted. Jobrani is with CAA, which also reps the Tannenbaum Co., and Levity.

Maz is a STAR !
Maz you are great and represent a smart and active part of your Iranian heritage. Keep up the goog work. You have our full support. Best to you and your family, Reza Tehrani
Go Maz!!!
Didn’t this show just get made, and get canceled last season, when it was called “Rob” and starred Rob Schneider?
I was thinking the exact same thing. “Rob” with the Mexican humor transposed with Al-Qaeda jokes and Middle Eastern stereotypes.
The only difference being Maz Jobrani is a really funny dude. Life on a Stick was one of the most underrated shows ever, and the one episode I saw of The Knights of Prosperity was really good. Also, I heard a pilot he did with Michael Chiklis and Elizabeth Perkins called Vince Uncensored is one of the best pilots to never get made into a series. Anyway, this looks like fun. Good luck, Maz!
It’s the same basic idea, only this show will not have Rob. So it’s not “Rob.”
And “Oddball couple” as center of comedy isn’t exactly a new concept. I Love Lucy ring a bell? That show didn’t suck.
If it’s funny we’ll know.
Mr. Hut!!! Maz Jobrani is hilarious.
Phoef is a class act, one of the good guys in this biz that doesn’t have many of them…
This sounds like a hit! I’m so excited to Maz back on a sitcom. I can’t believe ‘Better Off Ted’ got dropped – wth?? Congrats, Maz! And I hope this goes into syndication!
Well that’s enough material for the pilot. Any thoughts on the next twenty-one storylines?
Ethnic Mismatch Comedy #921
Maz is the funniest mother f-er on the face of the earth. I can’t wait for this show.
I am so proud of mr Jabari , and I wish him the best of all
, also thanks to C B S , for all the support and kindness to our star .
I hope they change the title. It is too derivative of Everybody Loves Raymond/Everybody Hates Chris. It is too much to ask that a sitcom is original, but could it at least have an original title?
It’s about time. Maz will be awesome
Wow, from ROB to SOUL MAN to this–at this rate, Phoef is gonna run out of minorities very soon!
To those comparing it to “Rob” – you’re totally wrong. A. Persian culture is totally different from Mexican culture and is outside the American mainstream. So you both have no idea what it’s about.
B. Maz’s charming personality in and of itself is enough to justify a show, regardless of his culture.
we wish you the best maz. im sure your show will be a kick ass
All the best Maz.In fact I got to know you trough youTube!I do wish you all the best<3
Maz is best….
Go mazzzzzzzzz
Congratulations to Phoef Sutton and Maz Jobrani! You’re in good hands with Phoef. Talented class act and a gentleman!
I hope this show does not become an excuse to insult Persians , we are become very sensitive to the issue. I guess now I understand how the African americans and Jewish people were feeling when they were discriminated against !!
Maz is co-writing the pilot himself, so I highly doubt it’s going to be insulting to Persians. Especially because he’s all about portraying them in a positive light.
Awesome Awesome ..This is a great news… Maz is a talented actor/ Comedian.. Love to see day.. and wish him a lot of success..
You go Maz..:)
Maz is the Persian Batman!
