According to Politico, the new TV ad was taped at the 82-year-old iconic filmmaker’s California home. Released today and aimed at battleground states, it’s for superPAC American Crossroads on behalf of Mitt Romney. It features both Clint Eastwood‘s narration as well as a cameo in which he speaks directly to the camera. No empty chair is involved:

GO CLINT!!!!! MAKE MY DAY!!!!!!!
Good Promo!!
It looks quite effective to sway the undecided!!
Nobody is undecided at this point. Just a dumb joke
This commercial written and directed by Empty Chair.
Empty chair — EMPTY HEAD ! SOME PEOPLE GET OLDER AND SMARTER AND SOME PEOPLE JUST GET OLDER
Great ad by Mr. Eastwood. Who would you rather believe – “Dirty Harry” or “Crazy Uncle Joe?”
Lacks the emotional wallop of the Super Bowl ad. Actors taking political stands rarely influence the electorate–Clint is an icon, yes, but why is his opinion more important than the next guy? And that chair thing tanked his credibility forever.
republican hypocrisy alert! it’s great when clint eastwood shows up at your convention & films a commercial for your candidate, but barbra streisand should shut up and sing. pathetic.
Exactly, imagine the outrage if a Hollywood celebrity had ben a speaker at the Democratic Convention. But leave it to the mental patient party to not realize the irony of their hypocracy.
Uh, not sure this is very smart of the Romney camp to prominently feature a man who was turned into a national punchline. But hey, can’t be as bad as running an endorsement of someone who thinks pregnancy by way of rape is God’s plan, right?
No empty chair, maybe, but perhaps an empty head.
The guy should stick to making movies.
Love this! I would vote 2x for Romney if I was a democrat
So, this really means that since you’re a Republican you’re actually now going to vote one time for Obama. (smerk)
Love the guy!
Somebody needs to tell Clint (and others) about how the ‘brilliant businessman’ Romney needed a bailout to save his company! There was an interesting investigation into that in Rolling Stone a few months back.
“And, I think, even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.”
I’m still puking from that.
Good actor endorses bad actor. Stay out of politics Clint. You’re embarrassing yourself. We thought you were smarter than that. Stick with what you’re great at, playing acting roles.
I agree… except Clint was never great at acting.
There’s no one I trust more than an 80 year-old millionaire to tell me who to vote for.
Does anyone care what that elderly piece of box office poison has to say? He became a national laughing stock after the GOP convention. His flop movie that followed cemented his irrelevance.
Anything paid for, endorsed by, or in league with KARL ROVE is not to be trusted. Using Eastwood’s kindly old face doesn’t change that.
Funny thing is that this contradicts what Clint told Ellen on her show right after the empty chair incident. I guess everyone is hoping that those watching this video didn’t watch Ellen.
Or maybe Clint is just a chameleon, just like the person he’s endorsing.
Clint has basically become a political joke. Maybe he’s stepping out into politics because his last couple movies were such huge failures. Romney reinvents himself hourly. The man has devoted his life trying to become President not because he stands for or against anything, but because his ego demands it. He is the definition of a coward. Sad that Clint, in his feeble years, got roped in.
CARPE DIEM & FAC DIEM MEAM!!
I had to google that but it was worth it.
Christ, can’t an actor have a different point of view than the Hollywood unimind?
Clooney love Obama, Clint loves Mitt. You don’t need to demean either of them. In fact, you can actually show maturity and respect both points of view.
And Clint is hardly a joke…He has had one of the most amazing acting and directing careers in Hollywood… From Spaghetti Westerns to Dirty Harry movies to Bridges of Madison County to Unforgiven to Million Dollar Baby… 99% of actors (and directors) would give their left nut/ovary to have had that career and STILL be making movies at 82.
Wow, great ad. Should make a big difference in important battlegrounds like Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania. Enjoy your retirement, Mr. President.
Good ad and though i used to be an Obama supporter, he just didn’t do what he said he would. It is time for a new leader. Don’t love Romney, but do believe he’s better than Obama.
It is great to know that so many liberal minded people were curious about the Clint Eastwood ad and took the time to watch it… mission accomplished!
You all made my day!!!
Clint is right, Obama has to go
