The CNN chief political correspondent went on The View today to debrief after moderating last night’s second Presidential debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney. Candy Crowley said she understands if people have an issue with her on-the-fly fact-checking of the candidates, especially over when Obama first acknowledged the fatal attack on U.S. diplomats in Benghazi was a terrorist act. She took Romney to task on that one. Check out the interview here:

Romney himself made the words “act of terror” the issue, not Crowley. He stated the President did not use those words the day after the attack, when in fact he had. That’s not Crowley’s fault, but I’m not surprised he’s trying to blame her.
Romney made yet another statement that was not true and got tripped up in his own lie. That’s what happens when you’re an arrogant control freak with a desperate need to be right all the time who lives in your own bubble, surrounded by Fox Newsers who don’t question your (frequently wrong and devoid of substance) assertions.
Obama knew what he had said and gave Romey enough rope (“Go on, Governor”) to hang himself. Romney eagerly grabbed the rope. Crowley knew what Obama had said, stated, and moved along.
We didn’t have to wait for yet another correction after the debate, as has been the norm with Romney. He wants to lie and correct later, when not so many are watching. He’s got no one to blame but himself.
Candy Crowley is an embarrassment to her profession. She owes Mitt Romney a public apology. She owes the American Public an apology. And finally, the media should never, ever moderate a Presidential Debate.
If you watch the whole rose garden speech fro 9/12 — it’s pretty grey. You could say Obama did refer to the Benghazi attack as an act of terror, but he really says “acts of terror” in reference to 9/11.
And most of the speech is about how America is against denigrating religions.
either way — she took a side, Obama’s, and gave us HER interpretation of the 9/12 speech, as fact — during a live debate. Her job is specifically to NOT take a side, and she did.
He included Benghazi as an act of terror. Nothing gray or opaque about it. He said the same a Vegas rally afterwards. The latest NY Times report says the video was a factor, but that’s beside the point. It was an act of terror, regardless of whether they were inspired by the video or not.
She did NOT take a side, she confirmed a FACT. Facts don’t have sides. Just like she confirmed FOR ROMNEY that it took two weeks for more information to come out. She did that a split second later. And the Romneyites cheered for him.
To get respect in your job you have to earn it. She showed she is no reporter or journalist therefore no respect for her ability. She is a talking bobble head who needs to fact check herself. Reread or listen to the speech in the Rose Garden. Once again Obama and his groupies are trying to rewrite history….
Do you realize how stupid you sound, Phil? No, obviously not. Crowley earned her respect years ago, and yes, she did get her facts right. It’s your boy who has trouble with the facts.
Candy Crowley is no David Brinkley, Walter Cronkite, or Tom Brokraw. Again when you earn respect you get it. It is not an entitlement that is owed.
The moderator admitted she was wrong the next day. She confirmed a wrong fact.
Phil is not wrong. You are drinking the Kool-Aid. Candy admitted she was wrong the next day…Fact is fact.
Name calling is not good. People only do that when they are loosing or they don’t have any fact to back up.
So why did Crowley ask John McCain on Sept 30: “Why did the administration wait 17 days to make a definitive statement that this was a terror attack?”
Or more importantly, why did Obama go to the UN 2 weeks after and blame the video? Why did the UN ambassador go on all the Sunday shows and blame the video, and why in god’s name did Obama and Clinton stand in front of the caskets and blame the freaking video? If they knew it was a terror attack from the get-go, then he’s an even bigger liar.
Romney was talking about what Obama said the day after the attacks and he drove that point home. He wanted it put on record. Now when he gets egg on his face everybody wants to deflect and blame the moderator. She did make a journalistic mistake but the fact still remains Romney got caught in a lie.
Romney showed last night that he dislikes being confronted by anyone much less a very accomplished woman. Look Romney blew it…. He didn’t have his facts right, he got called on it and he lost his composure. This is important. If he can fall apart because of an unexpected turn of events with a news reporter how is he going to handle the world stage? Its staggering to contemplate. Don’t blame the messenger, learn from it. If I was the next moderator I would press each candidate to see how they react to the pressure. That’s their job. Just don’t whine when your candidate doesn’t measure up.
Obama came to the Rose Garden that day to specially talk to the American people about the previous days events and not what had happened ten years ago. That would have been appropriate on 9/11 but not the day after. He specially stated he was talking about Bengazhi and made no reference to the events of ten years ago. Even if he had been refering to the events of ten years ago as well would that exclude Bengazhi?
You are overanalyzing the situation. The main storyline of these debates has been that Mitt Romney “will say anything to win”. After the first debate he changed course on major issues, so clearly Candy’s intent was to keep both candidates honest, moving forward.
And Obama has said anything to get elected, I believe the slogan was HOPE and CHANGE. Well maybe he didn’t lie. We have gotten CHANGE, a larger deficit and more regulations and there is HOPE that he is not re-elect. I stand correct he has given us HOPE and CHANGE, my bad.
Wrong! The fact that the GOP keeps talking about it means they lost!
Spin away little libby, spin away.
D.) Don’t go on “The View” the day after to debrief. A newscaster spinning her performance at a debate adds insult to injury further undermining her credibility. “The View” did a fine job of deconstructing the matter. Barbara Walters and Elizabeth Hasselbeck were very intuitive (and fair) with their questions. Like Candy Crowley a lot generally – I’ve always enjoyed her – but this one seems to be quicksand for her. The stuttering and stammering sure didn’t help her case. Plus she got it wrong again : he didn’t say “these acts of terror” as she says in the clip. He said “NO acts of terror.” Why and how a president uses six minutes in the Rose Garden to address murders of federal employees in any country at any time…matters…particularly the day after 9/11…MOST particularly in reference to what happened subsequently which was like a bad dream launched on a loop by the Obama administration. Was David Plouffe in charge of damage control? That’s what I would like to know. If so – not good. He just wants “audacity” to “win.”
I agree with you I am disappointed with candy she could not help herself help president obama out of the weeds …..really disappointed she had been doing so well……
This was Romneys fault, and I’m a republican, he made it about the phrase “act of terror” and Obama did use it, of course it’s an act of terror, he should have said it took them 6 weeks to admit that this wasn’t a spontaneous attack but instead made it about semantics.
It’s obvious that Obama was including this attack, in “NO acts of terror.” if you watch the debate.
Thank you for your honesty James! THATs what I call “fair and balanced”.
Obama’s my guy. Love him. But even I could say Obama lost the first debate and Romney did a much better job of coming across as Presidential… even if I believe everything he says are lies.
Why can’t people take a loss, congratulate the other guy, go home and lick their wounds like adults?
So that’s why he didn’t use the word ‘terror’ again for two weeks, and everyone in his administration went on tv to blame the video. Obama and Hillary taped a tv spot to run in Pakistan to distance the US government from the video. Pathetic.
she said she is trying to move the debate along and she followed up by saying Romney is right … to me, I don’t believe that is the point here. the bottom line is she should not have “fact check” either one or input of her own thoughts into a debate as a moderator, period. doesn’t matter what she intended to do … it will favor one or the other.
after the fact, again it doesn’t matter what she thought she was doing … the right thing to do for her to do is to apologize for her mistake and not make excuses on a) she tried to move it along and b) she said Romney is right also. those two points are besides the point and is only making her look worse like when we feel the candidates are not really answering the questions but dance around and trying to change topic.
to anyone that is fair/smart/rational/dem or rep will say she is completely out of line here and she should take responsibility and self-regulate.
A journalist is out of line for trying to inform the public? Sure …
She was right to correct Romney. All this Republican complaining is laughable . They are just trying to deflect attention from real problems in this county.
PLUS she CONFIRMED the second part of his statement! I mean, it’s really ridiculous.
It confounds me that correcting false statements is a controversial issue. I’d love a debate format with an intermission so fact-checkers can catch up and the moderator can force the candidates to respond to their misleading or wrong statements in the second half.
She is a seasoned newswoman and the president is an educated man but there just seems to be something that a lot of ‘people of a certain age’ still dont get – that in this internet age, it is harder and harder to lie when what you originally said or did can be googled or pulled up in a matter of seconds. She was not off the air five minutes before i heard two separate news channels quoting the actual remarks and correcting what she said. If she did not have the available quote right in front of her, she should have not said anything – the compulsive need to insert herself in the discussion made her look unprofessional.
A moderator should moderate…that’s it. Not fact check or back on candidate over the other. Also control the time so each candidate gets an equal amount. Obama ended up with more. Hmmm shocker..she’s a liberal.
Actually that is the job of a moderator, to keep the candidates on point, and in check. It is completely the job of a moderator.
It’s not the moderator’s job to fact check, especially when she has her facts wrong. Libya is an important issue that has been discussed repeatedly by the media so Crowley knew exactly what she was doing when she rudely butted in. Crowley just couldn’t keep her bias opinion out of the debate. She cut Romney off repeatedly when it was his turn for rebuttal stating she would even things out in the end. Instead she gave Obama 3.5 minutes more than Romney.
Candy finally got tired of Romneys bulling tactics and put him in his place. In the beginning of the debate he tried to challenge Candy on the rules and how things were going to be handled. He seem to be very dismissive of her. He even went back to previous subjects when she had moved the debate forward. I think what she did was say enough already and made him look foolish. He will hate her for the rest of his born days.
Where were you when Romney was running away with the first debate, taking the last word on every questions, and running all over Jim Leher? Oh, but it was in FAVOR of your candidate so I guess it didn’t matter.
who cares whether she crossed a line or not. once again the choices suck and it’s “vote for the better of the bad choices.” only in america can someone campaign on validating the issues but no plan. and that includes our current POTUS.
Candy Shame on you! Mrs Obama started to clap and shame shame on her….. I am so disappointed that you were doing so well…..and you folded like a cheap suit. You were doing so well and you just could not help yourself…. So disappointed……:(
These comments are laughable. Talk about blaming the messenger. No concern that Romney “lied” (or at least got it wrong); only that Crowley had the gall to correct him on it. Unbelievable!
I really don’t care if R or D wins the debate the country deserves more than 90min of debate. As for Ms Crowley, like a referee at a ball game, when a moderator (referee) becomes a topic after a debate (the game) the moderator fails. The worse thing is, she just gave ammunition to those who thought women don’t make good moderators.
Yeah, and “shame” on the networks for broadcasting the event. And “shame” on CNN for not firing her. And “shame” on America … just cause, OK?
You libs can defend or make excuses all you want about Crowley, the great unwashed watched her and the 2 hacks who moderated before her and they know what they saw. Years from now people who study history will watch these debates and will not be kind about what they write about them, they’ve made fools of themselve in the eyes of history.
Yeah, the “great unwashed” saw a moderator correct an error. The audacity.
The fact is Obama tried to lie for fourteen days that the cause of the deaths of our Libyan ambassador and three other Americans was because of some Youtube video. When he knew better. Five days later Obama sent his UN ambassador to tell lies on five different news programs. And in the UN, over a week later, he was still blaming the Youtube video.
And what Obama said in the Rose Garden on September 12th was about killing the Ambassador because of the video. That would still be about an ‘act of terror’.
Was anyone actually surprised? If you watch her show, you would know her bias is transparent. The people claiming she was unbiased before the debate must also believe that Fox is fair and balanced.
Funny how the FOP didn’t complain about Romney’s rude behavior last night as he interrupted and got in the face of THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. His lack of respect was worse than what they whined about Joe Biden and Lyin’ Ryan. As far as semantics of words I think the GOP lost all credibility with that issue when they made the them of their convention using words taken out of context and misrepresenting lying about what The President said about “you didn’t build that” (by yourself).
Please be reasonable, if you’ve followed Benghazi attack news long enough, it’s definitely a cover-up of failed foreign policy. The anti-Muslim video is a scam and trap, and Obama and his team bought it. Candy Crowley just double-downed her journalist career last night. Hate to see a talented person making a poor mistake. God bless us all!
She’s a disgrace. Candy is an embarrassment as a person and a so-called journalist. She should be ashamed of herself.
And as for every Liberal who calls Romney a liar – how can anyone say that and then give Obama a pass? It’s shameful how people can be so blinded. Yep, Romney lies. And yep, Obama as well. He does! He lies, people! Pull you head out of your asses and just admit the guy is a liar. Support him with all your power, but do not get all high and mighty about how he’s somehow any different from any other sleazy politician. Jesus, Liberals can be such whiny apologists it’s sickening.
She was not supposed to take sides. This was not her debate and it wasn’t a tag team fight. It was her place to ask questions, give equal time and otherwise shut her BIG MOUTH. No one wants her opinion.
We all have the right to get in the face of our president. He is not a KING! He is an elected leader and we have the right of free speech. Where are you from that you believe we don’t have that right?
She interrupted Romney 28 times vs 9 for Obama. She never corrected Obama EVEN THOUGH HE MADE STATEMENTS THAT WERE SUBJECTIVE. Whether Obama said it was a terrorist act or a random occurrence based on a YouTube video is subjective and cam be argued both ways. You didn’t see her fact checking Obama about planned parenthood..
“The Buck Stops Down The Hall”
This is why CNN viewership is down the toilet
Does anyone except the very naive really believe that we, the public, ever get the full story from Washington or elsewhere, especially when delicate security and international policies and politics are involved? Parsing comments about the use of the word “terrorism” isn’t worth the time spent on it in a debate. It’s just political rhetoric; the real facts are dealt with covertly. That’s how it works and public statements are carefully constructed to assure and assuage, not to inform. So a bogus debate issue and Crowley knows it.
