Steve Carell successfully made the transition from Daily Show corespondent to comedy series star with The Office. He is now getting behind another well-known Daily Show cast member, Jason Jones, in his foray into primetime. Steve Carell and Chris & Paul Weitz are executive producing an untitled comedy project for Fox written by and starring Jones.
The project, produced by 20th Century Fox, Carell’s Carousel Television and the Weitz Brothers’ Depth of Field, chronicles what happens to a successful single guy (Jones) in Manhattan who never wanted a family until his sister’s two kids are thrust upon him when she is called back to active duty. Jones, Chris Weitz, Paul Weitz, Carell, Carousel TV’s Thom Hinkle and Depth of Field’s Andrew Miano exec produce.
Carell and Jones did not overlap on The Daily Show — Jones joined in 2005, the same year Carell left to do The Office. Jones has been on the Emmy-winning Comedy Central show ever since. He has tested the primetime waters before: Jones, repped by UTA, Brillstein and attorney Ken Richman, starred in two broadcast comedy pilots, 2011′s The Assistants at CBS and ABC’s How To Be A Better American the year before. He also developed a CBS comedy vehicle with his wife, fellow Daily Show correspondent Samantha Bee. Carousel and Depth of Field are repped by WME.

John Stewart = not funny. David Letterman = not funny pervert. Conan = Not funny loser.
Jay Leno = Hilarious! Underrated! Groundbreaking! The other comedy geniuses that I love are Johnny Carson, Jack Benny, Jan Murray, Morey Amsterdam, Gallagher and Carrot Top. (That’s Mr. Top to you!)
You lost all credibility when you said Jay Leno = Hilarious!
Monte is insane.
Now this is how it’s done. High hopes for this.
@Monte Jay Leno underrated?! You believing that Jay Leno is “hilarious” is more funny than all the jokes Jay has ever told combined.
I knew Jason Jones would eventually get a sitcom. He’s hilarious on The Daily Show. His “Free Market Threat” piece is one of my favorites.
Monte is 100 correct about Stewart ,Letterman and Obrien. They are so overrated its sickening .
