EXCLUSIVE: In a very competitive situation with multiple networks bidding, a comedy starring Rachael Harris (Hangover) and The Office‘s Angela Kinsey has gone to Fox with a put pilot commitment. Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer is set to direct the project, created by Glee co-executive producer Stacy Traub, Harris and Kinsey and to be written by Traub. Titled Dirty Blondes, the comedy, from 20th Century Fox TV, is based on the real life long-time friendship of Kinsey and Harris. It centers on two women who’ve been friends for 16 years. Both get divorced and are brought closer together by the experience. Traub and Fleischer executive produce, with Harris and Kinsey co-executive producing.

Harris and Kinsey have been friends since meeting at the Los Angeles Groundlings improv theater early in their careers. Meanwhile, Traub worked with Harris on the 2007 ABC comedy series Notes From The Underbelly created by Traub and co-starring Harris.
Angela Kinsey, who plays Dunder Mifflin’s feisty, tightly wound head of accounting on The Office, is the second regular cast member of the departing NBC comedy to book a lead on a potential new series, along with Rainn Wilson who is headlining The Office spinoff The Farm. For Fleischer, the project stems from the two-year deal with 20th TV he inked in July. It marks his second sale at Fox; he also has John Phillips comedy Starting Up.
UTA-repped Fleischer started out directing music video and commercials, moved on to directing segments for ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Funny Or Die videos. His feature credits include Zombieland, 30 Minute Or Less and Gangster Squad. Harris, repped by UTA, Principato-Young and Rick Genow, recently recurred on Fox’s New Girl and co-starred in the feature Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days; Kinsey is with UTA and Adam Griffin; Traub is with UTA.

Peter Principato gettin ‘er done again.
With all these put pilot commitments, should writers who have been hired to write pilots that are not “put” even bother writing their scripts at all?
Yes they should bother. Just because they call them “put pilots” doesn’t necessarily mean they will get made. Networks feign commitment to get the project and are forced to pay some sort of penalty if they don’t make it. Happens all the time.
THANK YOU from a non-writing EP working on multiple pilot scripts without a put commitments. Writers and execs should know this — especially the case when you’re developing for the home studio of a network. So in this particular situation, odds are unless the script comes in really wonky, 20th & Fox will shoot a pilot. The one thing I do miss about Variety is a glossary of commonly used industry slang.
Now this is what you call a UTA package. Good work guys.
Three of the nicest, most talented women out there. Anyone who writes anything negative, I will cyberhunt you down and spam you with Canadian pharmacy ads.
Two of my favorite lady’s go get em girls, should be a great show
I really don’t want to watch this show at all. Nor will anyone born after 1980. What happened to the cool, young Fox?
This has been the worst year for comedy development ever. Not one single comedy is improving over its lead-in or its year ago performance.
Yet, all these stupid deals keep getting made.
When are some heads going to roll in comedy development so we can actually get some good shows on the air again?
You sound old, Ridiculous!
what is a “female comedy”?
It’s a comedy where both of the leads are female, and which deals largely with female issues. It’s a really challenging genre to do successfully, as females generally are much less funny than males, a fact that has been extensively documented by male comedians.
Is the idea to make men never want to watch a network comedy ever again? I actually like Rachel Harris, so this isn’t specifically directed at this show, but how about one show just about NORMAL men? Not about grown-up nerds, or grown-up frat bros, or grown-up children, or grown-up douchebags that live next door to aliens. Is that so much to ask? I feel like the only show on TV that speaks to me as a 27-year-old normal adult male is 20-year-old reruns of Seinfeld, and I know I’m not alone.
Well put, Moe.
These ladies are hilarious and smart – could be a big hit. I would watch anything with Angela Kinsey and Rachael Harris starring.
Love these ladies! Can’t wait.
Rachael Harris is GOD! I am so excited about this news!
Who saw Natural Selection starring Rachael Harris? It was fantastic and her finest hour (and a half)
Rachael Harris is a gifted performer and an amazing lady. I’d watch this for sure.
