EXCLUSIVE: Greek Gods are hot at Fox this development season. The network has put in development Olympus, an action drama created by writer-director Peter Berg and actor-writer Taylor Sheridan (Sons Of Anarchy). The project, from Universal TV and Berg and Sarah Aubrey’s studio-based Film 44, is described as “Bourne by way of 300.” It centers on a decorated soldier-turned-spy who finds out he actually is descended from the Greek Gods and may just be humanity’s last hope. In his broadcast pilot writing debut, Sheridan will write the script.
This is the second drama with Greek mythology themes in the works at Fox, which also has Athena, from writer Lisa Joy, Chernin Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV. It is based on Joy’s graphic novel, Headache, a coming-of-age drama about a 23-year-old woman who discovers she’s Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare.
Berg and Sheridan are already working together on the feature side. Sheridan’s spec Comancheria sold in April to Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, with Film 44 producing and Berg eying to direct. On the cable side, Sheridan, repped by Gersh and Elevate Entertainment, is working on one-hour drama Grass Valley for AMC with Maria Grasso and Deborah Spera’s One-Two Punch producing. At NBC, Film 44 has M.I.C.E., an adaptation of the Israeli format The Gordin Cell, which Berg is set to write and direct. The project has a put pilot commitment.

“Olympus” and “Athena” sound interesting but I hope it doesn’t impact The CW’s possible development of Wonder Woman/Amazon.
Taylor Sheridan is on fire.
On cable this could be cool… On network, it’s just the lightning thief — and that SUCKED.
Who ever Laura is,she took the words out of our mouth. Taylor Sheridan” RED HOT”CONGRATULATION
Olympus sounds like it could be incredible..on cable..not on FOX.
I was really excited about this…for about five seconds. Then I remembered why I gave up on fox years ago – they developed an annoying habit of canceling any decent show that I really want to watch after half a season. Actually, it’s not just fox – I have pretty much given up on all the networks. Considering how much I love Greek mythology, I’ll just hope they both somehow do well and go to DVD, with lots of extras, and buy that after a few seasons. That’s what I did with Smallville and Supernatural… Call me jaded.
Peter Berg, “Used to be good.” Maybe he’ll do something of talent this time. BTW, hire “American” actors and give those beginners (no matter their age!), those with few credits, a break too. You’ll be amazed at the talent you’ll re-discover.
