BREAKING: Jason Segel and Drew Pearce have sold a pitch to Fox. They will turn the documentary The Other F Word into a feature that will be a star vehicle for the How I Met Your Mother star. Segel and Pearce will co-write and be executive producers.
Several studios chased the deal before Fox took it off the table. The 2011 docu explores the world of aging punk rock musicians as they transition into fatherhood and try to maintain the contrast between their anti-authoritarian lifestyle with the responsibilities of being a dad.
Andrea Blaugrund Nevins wrote and directed the docu, producing it with Cristan Reilly. Among the rock stars balancing these roles were Blink-182′s Mark Hoppus, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, and Rise Against’s Tim McIlrath. Nevins and Reilly will be executive producers on the comedy.
Pearce’s screen credits include Iron Man 3 and Sherlock Holmes 3, and he did production work on Pacific Rim and is now working on Godzilla, both for Legendary Pictures. WME reps Segel and Pearce along with Warren Dern. Stacy Abrams manages Segel, most recently seen in The Five-Year Engagement and The Muppets. Here is a trailer for the docu, to convey a sense of the comic possibilities here:

Sweet!
This looks awesome!
Why not just make a movie out of Hopeless-Savages. It’s already a fictional story as opposed to a documentary.
I LOVE COMEDY!!!!!
Jason Segel is not funny.
Would someone please introduce him to some jokes or maybe a likable persona.
Should be great! All started with a book called “Punk Rock Dad” written by long time Pennywise singer Jim Lindberg, whose story was also the basis of the documentary. Congrats Jim!
This doc was great. It pains me to think of the feature with Segal. he seems like a nice guy but part of me wishes he would go away for a little bit and come back stronger, like Affleck did
YES – THIS. Exactly what Alex said.
