Information revealed in this interview is that one of the next films is set in the snow. Interesting…
Pretty amazing that out of nowhere this announcement gave me a new hope. I am actually potentially going to be a Star Wars fan again — because I’m sure they’re going to end up with amazing filmmakers to tell these stories.
This is great news … in 1997. Who gives a s*** now? George Lucas wrote the treatments for 7, 8 and 9. That means they will suck. Also, will he ever reveal how tiny it really is? Dying to know.
Wont these movies compete with Marvel’s? I thought that Kevin Feige was already gunning for the Star Wars’ audience with Guardians of the Galaxy and the whole Marvel Cosmic genre that movie would open up. Aside from the similar ideas wont the release schedules conflict at least? – I thought they were hoping to have 2-4 Marvel movies a year by 2016 or so. It seems to me that, because of Marvel, of all the studios Disney is the one that needs Star Wars the least.
I think this is the right decision, but am I the only one that thinks George looks a bit uncomfortable with this?
Makes sense. Say what you will, but he is moving on and giving up his baby. Must be tough.
Even though I am no fan (at all) of the prequels, I think it’s smart they are basing the new films off of George’s treatments. He was always a great creator of worlds and characters, the last 3 films just needed better writers. Now we will have them!
Great choice in Kathleen Kennedy too!
George has gotten so damn fat he looks like Jabba the Hutt and his physical appearance is symbolic of how he has let his company get bloated. He used to be a really skinny hungry young director but as he became ever more successful and ever more wealthy he started to gain all that weight and he lost his hungry young mental attitude. He no longer cared about making films only money.
He became lazy both physically and lazy and it shows in the Phantom Menace and in the 4th Indiana Jones movie. I’m glad he’s selling his company and a younger generation will have the chance to play with the toys George built.
He wasted so much time and effort continually going back to the first Star Wars trilogy constantly revising them and it was only done for one reason so he could make more money from gullible fanboys he kept selling them new versions of the same three movies over and over in every different format imaginable.
George made the right move by hiring Ms. Kennedy to run the show. She is not only a prolific producer, a smart business women but a wonderful human being. She inspired all of us in the PGA New Media Council. As our president she brought the membership together and was instrumental in moving the guild forward.
May the force be with you Disney.
Could it be that the galaxy which is far far away is the Marvel Universe. A merger of Universes where Buzz teams up with Luke and the Fantastic Four to rescue the Silver Surfer’s girl friend from Galactus. Buy me an advance ticket!
You’re crazy that would be terrible. Never happen. It would be insane.
Money in the bank — legacy out the door.
Thank you, George. For this and for everything.
Disney and Lucasfilm (Industrial Light & Magic) combined now have the potential to take computer-generated special effects to new heights. Simply put, nothing is out of reach. Anything a writer dreams up, no matter how far-fetched or outrageous, can be made real and believable with these two imagination power-houses morphed into one! This will be the new standard when it comes to films heavily dependant upon CGI. Poor George. Already worth a billion or two I would imagine, just padded his retirement account with a cool four billion dollars courtesy of Disney. Being the SOLE shareholder doth have its’ privileges! Not known as much of a smiler, my guess is he’s grinning from ear to ear on the inside. It looks like George has been taking it REAL easy since the 2005 release of his last film. He might want to consider taking $100,000 out of petty cash and hiring himself a personal trainer before he drops dead of a heart attack. Take away the beard and he’s the bipedal version of Jabba the Hut!
I have to say, after seven years since the last one, I never thought they would bring out another one let alone three! It should be interesting to see how well Disney handles all this potential…..
