Hallmark Channel today announced that it has given green light to its first primetime series Cedar Cove starring Andie MacDowell. Stargate veteran Carl Binder will serve as showrunner on the series, which will film in Vancouver. Cedar Cove is based on Debbie Macomber’s novels and stars MacDowell as Judge Olivia Lockhart whose Cedar Cove Municipal Court is the professional milieu and social microcosm of issues the judge will face in her own day-to-day life with family and friends. Dylan Neal plays Jack Griffith, the new editor of the Cedar Cove Chronicle, and budding love interest for Judge Lockhart. Hallmark made two-hour pilot orders to Cedar Cover and When Calls the Heart in March. Then in May, when it tapped MacDowell for Cedar Cove, it announced that the project has been given a series order for a debut in early 2013. At the time, MacDowell was tied to ABC Family’s Jane By Design, which has since been cancelled. Cedar Cove‘s two-hour pilot, directed by Michael Scott and written by Bruce Graham, will air on Jan 19, followed by the series launch in early spring.

Oh, I hope they don’t screw it up. The last three TV shows made from book series I love only slightly resembled the books they were made from. By slightly, I mean the characters have the same names, mostly.
1) The Dresden Files – So much material to work from and yet… *sigh* They made a bunch of unnecessary changes which drove the fans of the books away.
2) Blood Ties – I don’t know what they were hoping with this one. Maybe that the book series wasn’t as popular so there wouldn’t be as many fans to complain when they got it all wrong?
3) True Blood – This show is a travesty! The majority of the shows fans have never read the books. I had to force myself to finish watching season 1 and I have no desire to ever see any more. Ugh!
I absolutely agree with you … ESPECIALLY regarding True Blood. I look forward to seeing how this new series works out.
Tanya Huff seemed to be satisfied with the treatment of the books and even acted in one of the episodes. Plus she said that Kyle Schmid nailed the role of Henry Fitzroy.
I can’t wait for the series . . .after reading a couple of the Christmas books I started reading the series from the beginning. Then hearing about the show I want to get all of them read…I am sure I won’t be disappointed!

Can’t wait to see the Cedar Cove series – I am on book 9 of the series and I am so involved with the characters – I hope it is AlOT like the book – I am anxious to see the characters- also reading Angels at the Table

I am excited about this series but the casting is not what I envisioned while reading the books. Andie MacDowell doesn’t seem like the right fit to be Olivia.
I hope that when they do the Cedar Cove on Hallmark that they follow the book. I will be very disappointed if they don’t. Last time they made a move from a book it was nothing like the book.
This will be a dream come true for me (if its like the book)!!! I have read the entire series TWICE and I can’t wait to see it come to life!!! So excited!!! Aaahhhhhhh!
I love Debbie Macomber as an author, and her Cedar Cove series has definitely pulled me in. I hope Hallmark does the series justice and that we as readers/fans of the books aren’t disappointed. Let it be more than just ‘inspired by’.

Did anyone see the Movie that was suppose to air on January 19? I couldn’t find it anywhere!
I couldnt find Cedar Cove on January 19, 2013. I searched my tv with the title and Andie Macdowell…I even went as far as calling DISH tv to find out what was going on. Im still checking everyday to see if it will appear. I love Debbie Macomber books too! I can always count on a good story.
Only have 3 to go and I am so thrilled with the idea of putting faces to these characters. I don’t get Hallmark channel but will beg my friends for TV time. So excited!!

When will the series Cedar Cove air? Today I heard it advertised as a “trailer”. I do not know what this means. Is it going to be on another channel besides the Hallmark channel? I am anxious to see this and hope I haven’t missed out.
Debbie macomber is the best author ever. I’m on book 9 of the ceded cove series can’t wait for the movie!!! Also the Manning brides series is awsome
