This looks ridiculous. “Van Helsing” by way of “Brothers Grimm” or “Season of the Witch.” Looks like the kind of movie where everybody realized it was a HUGE mistake on Day 2 of production and just went for it anyway.
Luckily for this movie, the bar set by YOUR HIGHNESS is low.
Van Helsing looks like high brow PBS programming compared to this crap. It looks so lame.
Looks like another Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter… and I don’t mean that in a good way.
Yawn. This doesn’t even veer into ‘secretly fun, over-the-top’ territory. It just looks stale.
When it doubt, up the gore quotient and give the music some extra punch. It never fails.
Looks plain dumb…
Looks like they borrowed the title graphic look of the blood splatter from the Roland Emmerich film “Anonymous.”
I will watch anything with Jeremy Renner in it.
This movie certainly seems to put that statement to the ultimate test…
Hansel and Gretel & the 420 Witch with Lara Flynn Boyle opens in 2012 as well. Just in time for Oscar season.
Rolled my eyes at the NY Times story about movies losing cultural significance. Now I’m not so sure….

Well i’m not surprised. i’m sorry but Tommy Wirkola’s film “Dead Snow” was not good. i walked out of it at Sundance. So big mistake having him direct a studio film.
Dead Snow had an awesome premise, but a horrid execution, much like Iron Sky. Oh well.
It’s like an SNL parody, only tragic because it’s real crap.
The last couple of months a new terrific movie has come out every week, so I’m not down on movies. I feel like I’m falling in love with them all over again.
But 20 seconds into this, hate hated this movie with a deep passion.
Well, it is the best trailer version thus far. However, that clever, tongue-in-cheek tone is tough to sustain. When it works, it can be great. But when it’s doesn’t, it’s just stupid. Impossible to tell at this point. However, does feel rather niche (translation = solely targeting the fickle young males).
Yikes. And I love both Gemma (a very hot girl, indeed) and Jeremy but this looks STANKY, and so much like a bunch of other crap over the last five years.
I won’t watch anything with Jeremy Renner. He’s Headed into Gerard Butler land.
I like this it looks like it’s a lot of fun. They should save it for the summer it would do much better. Teenagers will love this movie it’s inventive and it’s got some humor to it.
I think this looks like plain, old fun!
Also think it`s funny to see that the feedback elsewhere to this trailer is generally positive, except this site. As always…
that is because this is a site for film professionals, who know a lousy trailer when they see one. the “generally positive” feedback you are referring to is at splatter fan-sites and the like…
Professionals?
You mean like the people who greenlit this movie? Like the movie says, burn em all!,
Jeremy Renner is great, but woefully miscast here.
Mark Wahlberg comes to mind as someone who could’ve pulled off the humor far better (and we all know Wahlberg is great at action as well.)
Everyone involved with making this movie should be embarrassed. This should go straight-to-video or the releasing studio is going to lose a lot of money.
I think I would have preferred this concept without the one-liners and weapon gadgetry.
At its core, there’s a neat idea here – a grown up Hansel and Gretel seek revenge on all witches – that’s a great place to start. But why play it so campy? Do it as straight up gritty supernatural thriller and I would have been very interested. This just looks silly.
While I don’t necessarily disagree with the earlier comments, and although I agree it doesn’t look very good, it honestly doesn’t look any worse than 75 % of other movies released over the last decade or so.
EUREKA!!!! No wonder I can’t get a script sold in this town. I’ve got it now. My next script: “George W. Bush and Huckleberry Finn: Zombie Killers”
Look out for it summer 2015
This. Was actually made.
Seems a little a too anti-witch for me…
“I don’t think we’re hunting witches… the witches are hunting us!” Is it too early to start an oscar campaign?
