EXCLUSIVE: Rob Zombie’s The Lords Of Salem was one of the splashier deals at the recent Toronto Film Festival, where Anchor Bay acquired distribution for around $2 million after the film played a raucous Midnight Madness premiere. Now, Zombie has made a teaser for the film that will be released next spring. While Zombie is a rock icon, he’s chosen an operatic style of music to accompany the imagery for a film that stars Sheri Moon Zombie, Bruce Davison, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Ken Foree, Patricia Quinn, Dee Wallace and Judy Geeson. Moon Zombie plays a radio DJ in Salem whose playing of a sinister tune awakens a coven of nasty 17th century witches.

How is this guy still allowed to make movies? Who backs him?
Rob Zombie has a strong following, a visual signature all of his own and his films make money. I admit, I’m not a fan myself, then I’m not his audience, but I would have no problem backing him.
You bite your tongue, Marc! This is clearly going to be the film that earns Sheri Moon Zombie that long overdue Oscar she deserves!
Sheri Moon does deserve an oscar. I admire her for she plays awesome killers among other creepy characters. Quite frankly I was going to try to be Baby-Girl for halloween but have been unable to find the correct type of garments she wore in the Devil’s Rejects. Anyone have any suggestions?
Hi Chelsea,
My wife and me were Baby and Otis Firefly 2 years ago for Halloween.
For her, you’ll need cowboy boots, straw cowboy hat, a white farmers blouse or dress covered with fake blood with a big brown leather belt don’t forget a shotgun or revolver. you can still us a pair of old jeans and a white tank top.
Hope this helps.
Happy Halloween, Rob Zombie ROCKS!!!! This movie will be awesome.
I wouldn’t kid yourself on that Oscar idea…..Rob Zombies MUSIC is good & that is where he should have stayed I have yet to see a movie from him that had any hint of award let alone an Oscar to it!
I thought she should have gotten an oscar for playing Michael Myers mother.
rob zombies movies are HUGE money makers. devils rejects cost 3 million or so to make, and grossed 20+ million OPENING weekend… so as long as he is profitable…
Dude, The Devil´s Rejects made 7 million opening weekend and finished with exactly: 17,044,981 US$ Domestic. Also it almost cost 7 million, so not THAT profitable. But well I think with DvD and so on it was pretty profitable.
$10,000,000 isnt that profitable? You must be Bill Gates lol
lol. More then doubling your money, doesn’t seem that bad.
Illuminati
Hey, ‘Marc D.’, I can tell you the people that AREN’T backing Zombie…The people behind ‘American Idol’, ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, ‘America’s Got Talent’, etc., that you sit home and choke your chicken to every night wearing your little pink dress.
rob zombie + film = cliche
just like the programs you listed
John ahahahah
He still makes movies because hes got talent and originality in his work something you dont see in mainstream Hollywood these days.
Rob Zombie is a genius. I love his films and music. The man is so intelligent and creative and nothing like you would expect. People need to not judge a book by its cover.
Dude, he’s so rich he can back himself.
A film production / distribution company backs him. This is a business. RZ films make money – not some through some magic of hollywood accounting, but through raw finance. People pay to see his films. If you want to abuse/blame someone, blame the fans. If not, go back to stacking shelves at Wal-Mart and be quiet. Dick.
I expect the negative posts since there is’nt a huge Horror convention/ Zombie/ Horror following. But I love all of his movies more then any other movie and I’ve also met him and his fellow actors/actresses. All are super nice and I love his directing. Any time he announces working on a new film I feel like a kid in a candy store. I’ve been following and waiting for this for way to long. I can’t wait!!!
No one backed him, he made it himself, and recently sold the film.
who backs him? are you serious! my husband and I are big rob zombie fans and he can make one hell of a horror movie!!! we love blood and guts, and i think anyone who appreciates a true horror movie today backs him, his fans back him!!!! If you don’t appreciate him then simply stay off his pages
Obviously people back him. House Of 1000 Corpses and Devil’s Rejects have a huge cult following, Devil’s Rejects was a box office success and the box office sales for his Halloween remakes surpassed that of the originals. Acclaimed horror directors and writers such as Steven King, Wes Craven and Quentin Tarantino have praised his work.
Really Marc D… How is this guy still allowed to make movies and who backs him? He’s the only one out there right now that’s doing any justice for the Horror genre, the only one who isn’t doing the same safe and redundant garbage. He’s making Horror films how they’re supposed to be made. The real question you should be asking yourself is how in the Hell is Michael Bay still allowed to make movies? Oh wait, probably cause you’re just like every other moron in this country who buys into explosions, dumb sexy woman, and fast cars…
You understand the irony of what you just wrote, right? I’m going to assume not since your moniker is Bloodsoaked Chainsaw and not your birth name. (Although if that is your birth name, good for you. Please don’t kill my family.)
“the only one who isn’t doing the same safe and redundant garbage.”
Okay. Well you can, and I will, make the point that remaking one of the longest running film series (Halloween) is both safe and redundant. Garbage is a statement of opinion but considering how he missed the entire point of the original Halloween film and instead gave Mike Myers an origin story so terrible that there isn’t a simile in the world to finish this sentence I would count it is garbage. But that is just my opinion. According to Rotten Tomatoes his first Halloween has a 24% and a sequel, which is typically considered a safe move with a series as time honored as Halloween, has a 21%. That should leave it safe to accept them as garbage.
“He’s making Horror films how they’re supposed to be made.”
Now here we enter a realm of ambiguity. What you like and what I like are going to be different. However I’m sure we both can agree on certain films and directors. To continue with the Halloween roll above, I’m going to go with John Carpenter, maybe one of the most well respected men to ever work in horror. What is he known for that so terrifies his audiences? It’s fairly universal: his use of claustrophobia. The Thing leaves you feeling trapped, you’re never escaping. Halloween did that as well. As did Assault on Precinct 13 and, his most recent film, The Ward. Or perhaps lets look at Wes Craven. His best are all in on themselves to a degree. Wether it be the music that clashed with pain on screen in The Last House on the Left or the parallels between dreaming and film in Nightmare on Elm Street or the brilliant conventional talk in Scream, his films, when he is at the top of his game, seem to remind the audience of the reality through this clash. It’s not about blood, gore, profanity, offensive imagery, or any of the edgy things that Zombie crams into his films. It’s about attracting something universal. These films used all that, but they used it for bigger and better effect letting the gore be the tool and not the end. These are how they are supposed to be made. This can be seen in everything from Psycho to The Exorcist to The Cabin In The Woods. And considering the critical reception of all those films, it seem those are how it actually ought to be made.
“The real question you should be asking yourself is how in the Hell is Michael Bay still allowed to make movies? Oh wait, probably cause you’re just like every other moron in this country”
Michael Bay is allowed to make movies because they attract a wide audience who doesn’t have to look to deeply into what they are watching. Not excusing it. But if you can attract a wide audience and make money, you can make whatever movie you want. I don’t know why that had to be turned into a personal attack since one person doesn’t a wide audience make.
” who buys into explosions, dumb sexy woman, and fast cars…”
I’d say that you chose those because they are sensational tools that Michael Bay falls back on instead of plots and characters, correct? Cool. So if we’re just looking at sensational things used to cover up for lack of plot let us examine Rob Zombie. His animated film The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto. Now it had actually everything you chose to discuss. Mildly tongue in cheek the entire time, sure. But that is still no excuse of no coherent plot or character development. You also have a completely unnecessary and far too long masterbation scene so it even had more than you included on your list. As well as music by Hard & Phirm which, while funny, actually detracts from the film itself. But that’s based off a comic book that I never read so that could be how it plays out. Lets try another. How about House of 1000 Corpses? It uses profanity so heavily that Quentin Tarantino would blush. Brutality is substituted for character. And conventions are exploited for no other reason than to remind us that they exist. The plot is more an excuse to watch people die than anything. But no explosions or sexy women. Dumb women, sure. Actually every character is dumb so that almost isn’t even worth pointing out.
Now this isn’t me saying you can’t enjoy him or anything like that. Please don’t take this as insult. All I am suggesting is that Rob Zombie, you may find enjoyable, is not a good director/writer. He isn’t good at what he does. Enjoy him all you want, but don’t pretend that he’s an artistic genius and don’t insult people for not enjoying him. Reserve that for when actual artists are being discussed.
ha ha I agree. The devil backs him. Zombie sucks. His movies blow.
rob zombie has the best movies ever & the fact you don’t like it you are obvioulsy mental.
this is his out look on the salem witch trials so suck a nut.
Ya know, I like Rob Zombie..I really do..But what is Hillary Clinton doing in the last shot?–and the famous song–I feel like Jeff Lebowski is gonna pop up and say “The old man told me to take any rug in the house”
Looks fantastic.
But released next Spring? Way to strike when the iron’s ice cold, Anchor Bay.
Yeah, I totally agree here. Release this beast in October and watch is rack up the money….
Spring????
WORD! The Mayan calander could kill us all before the Spring, UNLESS the movie is still in post production which is a tough break with Zombie being on tour its hard to split your focus I imagine. Release this movie already.
Awesome! Can’t wait! Hope Anchor Bay knows what they are doing with it
whoa… looks fucking evil. Can’t wait to see this!!! beautiful shots too.
Dumb. Pretentious. Uninteresting. Laughable. I will change my name to Ghoul and become a director.
You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself….
Did i miss a meeting?, this is just an horror movie isn’t it?
the stuff in the trailer looked kind of corny. what happened?
Dont we need some corniness after all the boring generic bloodfests of recent horrors. Looks fantastic to me, like a mix of old and new horror.
Looks dope I cant wait, Should release now for halloween only complaint…
looks semi original….as a horror movie groupie for years, i have noticed the need to go for the extreme gross out in recent years.house was just like the TCM on acid,i had a slight fondness for his halloween remake, yet you can’t improve on perfection.i am truly looking forward to lords and want some cerebral masturbation instead of the big, blow your load gore fest.
A fantastic horror opéra movie
Looks like an art house movie for people who live in trailer parks.
After Killer Joe I expect to see lots of those.
looks like a failed attempt at being scary, blatantly satanic-over done. it’ll be a mix of crazy and devilish-no plot, attempting to grab the audience with visual depictions, without substance, another stupid bloodbath movie.
Love him.Love his sound. Most of all I love he is Just him.No more no less.Say what u will.Rock on
Do not judge a book by it’s cover or a film by its trailer zprod. It’s too early to have such strong opinions. Rob Zombie has an art fro film making and wouldn’t have got to where he is now by just his name…and personally, I think zprod ghoul works wonderfully
Has some awesome imagery, but thats all zombie is good imagery.Have someone write the script and get rid of mrs. zombie and he could make a good movie.Ive seen all his movies and have all his albums so I consider myself a fan so I will see this.
So this is what an expensive, stupid student film looks like.
No, this is what a teaser trailer looks like for a film that is months away from release. For you and all of your snark-mates above, do you actually know anything at all about the film business? Do you understand that judging a yet-to-be completed film based upon its teaser trailer is ridiculous?
Rob Zombie needs to create the Dark Elf Trilogy for the Clerics of Lolth. He would be PERFECT for doing that.
I love this trailer. The use of Mozart’s Requiem adds a whole other level of sophistication to the beautiful looking cinematography. So far the trailer looks exactly like I wanted it to. I’ve been anticipating this film for a while and I’m satisfied with the trailer. I can immediately notice the influence of certain exploitation films! Sherri Moon continues to look amazing as always!
Looking forward to it but a little upset with what I saw. Im from Salem and ran a tour guide company, it bothers me to see Witches being burnt in Salem, NO accused Witches were burn all were hung and one was crushed to death. I cant tell you how many people think we burnt the accused and this just perpetuates that ignorance! Also Witches don’t worship Satan, this also perpetuates that ignorance! I know its just a horror film, but since its about my home town it gets a little under my skin, Rob should know better! I will see it as I manage a movie theater, I hope I don’t hate it. Releasing it in the Spring is a good move as it will be out on DVD in October and that’s where the real money for this movie will be.
Wow that looks cheesy.
looks amazing, cant wait. The Devils Rejects is still one of my fav films ever
I’ve heard some pretty decent things about this movie, so I’m quite surprised by how awful this trailer is. I know most trailers are a pretty poor depiction of their respective final films but this really was downright abysmal. It makes the movie look cheap and dated (grunge-horror costume department). And the go-to Mozart piece isn’t helping its case; it made the line readings at the end fucking comical.
I love Rob Zombie and his movies. And Sheri Moon Zombie is gorgeous. But I think his movies need different people to play the characters. He needs to be more thoughtful and creative in his ideas with the plots of his movies. I think “House of 1000 corpses” reminded me more of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. Sorry. I think a lot of his movies have way too many sex situations/acts/talks in his movies. I know that sex sells but I think the plots and anticipation in his movies are more important. Don’t get me wrong, I will always be a Rob Zombie fan no matter what. Just glad I can tell my opinion!! Sorry for anyone who disagrees with me.
Where the hell is Sid Haig!
Trailer is not what I was expecting, kinda corny but am still interested.
I do!!!!!! He’s great at what he does!!!! He’s an amazing singer and he makes awesome horror fims and he’s an animal advocate who rescues animals and built his own animal sanctuary.who the hell do u think you r to judge him
