Here’s a first look at the Barbra Streisand-Seth Rogen comedy The Guilt Trip (formerly known as My Mother’s Curse). The Anne Fletcher-directed pic tells the story of an inventor (Rogen) who hits the road with his mother (Streisand) on a cross-country adventure as he tries to sell his new product. Along the way he reunites mom with a lost love. Dan Fogelman penned the screenplay. It’s slated for release on December 25.

Please don’t blame this laugh-less trailer on Rogen, Barbra, or Fletcher. This is another Dan Fogelman screenplay that is entirely devoid of laughs. Great at writing structure, I applaud his work. But find me a laugh in Crazy, Stupid, Love. Please. I just think he doesn’t have a shred of talent, but I guess that’s just me. I’m sure others will find this hilarious.
You’re joking right? That movie was terrific.
Wow, Lo, do you have terrible taste.
Crazy, Stupid Love was the best comedy of that year.
This is on Anne Fletcher, sorry, her movies stink. Very nice person, her movies make money, but they stink.
Wow this looks horrible.
Eat the steak and get it free scene? Really?
yikes…
I wish I saw four things in every trailer. 1) Why I should care about the character relationships. 2) What they’re trying to do. 3) Obstacles in their way. 4) Stakes. I only saw #1 here
Should it not be called “No Cliche Left Unturned”?
Looks more like “For Pete’s Sake: Part II”
I think this looks really funny. Streisand has amazing comic timing. Know a few people who saw this already and was told the laughter was so loud you couldn’t hear some lines.
That has to be a blatant lie. This is another Fogelman “comedy” like Crazy Stupid Buncha Coincidental Stuff Happens… Where every attempt at a joke comes from forced and schmaltzy situations that simply don’t resonate. What results is a very competently but “who cares” kinda story with characters that you neither love nor hate. They just exist and we go well… Okay. It wasn’t Baaaad. Sad that “Wasn’t bad” equals big pay days in the 21st century cuz there’s not enough great.
I know. I was at that cast & crew screening too.
You lie.
This is a terrible trailer. Seriously? Rogen’s acting is extremely naturalistic, Streisand is Streisand, but there is nothing funny here whatsoever? Who writes this garbage? They should be embarrassed for stealing people’s money.
Looks great – screen tests have been positive and word of mouth helped switch the release to Christmas. Plus Barbra looks perfect, let’s hope more trailers show other sides of the film.
Wow, ease up, guys. It looks like pure entertainment, and the chemistry between Streisand and Rogen looks terrific. This will be a smash.
Are you enjoying your new job out in Hollywood, studio intern? I hope you are at least being paid for going on websites and saying things like, “This will be a smash.” No one from the general public is watching this trailer and thinking that. You guys need to come up with more natural fake comments if you really want people to believe you. Even if you think this looks good (which you would have to be some kind of super old person who still loves Barbra to think), you wouldn’t make these kind of comments that sound like they were written by some PR dummy.
Hey, smart ass, I’m just a fan of both actors, not a studio intern.
You obviouly worked on this film, because there is nothing entertaning about it. I was looking forward to this one, but only a yes man would try to pass this off as something to be proud of.
No, ass-wipe, I’m a working and successful TV writer-producer, yet I have absolutely nothing to do with this movie. Let’s revisit the first week of 2013 and see who’s right about The Guilt Trip.
Let me re-edit your comment, because no one is going to believe that both a working and successful TV writer/producer is taking the time to say such asinine things about a movie whose trailer looks this bad.
You meant to say, “I am a non working and unsuccessful TV writer who is sitting around trying to sound like I’m in the industry.” Isn’t that more true. Isn’t it?
Actually “Jake” – no, that is not true. You are very wrong.
Take it eeeeeeeeeeeasy.
Look up “one dimensional” in the dictionary: You’ll see a picture of SR.
This looks really, really bad. Barbra’s comic timing is clearly a thing of the past. If youngsters want to see her be funny, they should rent WHAT’S UP DOC.
Agreed. Now that it a great mad cap comedy.
This is cute and it’ll do very well. Haters need to find an easier target if you don’t like this there’s something wrong with you.
It’s a 2-minute trailer people – and for a movie called ‘The Guilt Trip.’ Paramount saved it for Christmas so I’ll trust a 100 year old studio thank you.
Yeah, just like we trusted it with “The Godfather: Part III”!
Yikes! Unless his invention is a self-packing bong and she gave birth to him when she was 60 years old this is the worst cast movie since anything with Matt Damon. Ick!
Trailer isn’t great, but there are hints Streisand’s character is gonna have dimension and her timing is always flawless. I’ll give it a shot.
Ich. BS is fantastic and funny and I just love her… but not in this trailer. She seems flat and like she’s trying to be funny but just can’t get there. He’s always the same and that’s fine.
Surprisingly, this looks like it could be funny and heartfelt. I mean it can’t be any worse than that train wreck Due Date.
Smart move for both Rogen and Streisand to do this. It’s going to make a profit because it will play to every woman over 50 and a sliver of young adult crowd that likes Rogen. Good for them!
Looks like it should’ve been titled “For Pete’s Sake II”
I have heard from people who have seen it that it is laugh out loud funny, but also poignant. One friend told me the trailer only concentrates on the slapstick elements but there is more to the movie.
Looks like it has heart. It may not reinvent the wheel but heart done sincerely is invariably smart box office in the short run and in the long run it seems to me. I really enjoy Seth Rogen; to me he comes off as a nice and decent guy. They both have great comic timing. Looks like they have the awkward chemistry required. And Streisand looks kinda hot. May very well turn out to be review-proof with such personable performers and such a relatable premise for both aduts and teenagers. I hope so at any rate.
I especially like how they used the steak eating scene from the John Candy movie and the grand canyon scene from Vacation!
This actually looks pretty good! Not too over the top, heartfelt and funny. Count me in
Streisand isn’t acting – she’s playing a stereotype – it looks totally false and unbelievable. Total misuse of star power and talent – who convinced her to do this? OR, she couldn’t let go of vanity and play it as a Sylvia Miles character.
Actually, I thought she looked like a human being.
I love how so many people can tell so much from a 2 minute trailer. And I expect more professional and respectful comments on this site. Very surprised.
That. Looks. Painful. Wow, this is going to be a biiiiig flop.
You could not pay me to see this movie. Whomever put together the trailer should be fired. There may be more to it than this, but the scenes we get in the trailer all fall flat–I stopped watching when they started the penis conversation. I’m not sure there’s an audience for this–I mean, when was the last time BS opened a film and Seth Rogen, to be kind, is inconsistent at the box office. This strikes me as this year’s equivalent of “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” I suspect it will be lost in the Christmas rush and jump to video quickly. By the way, I thought Crazy, Stupid Love was pretty clever for the most part so I’m not bashing on DF. The trailer is a turnoff.
