Here’s the first official trailer for Disney’s $215M-budget The Lone Ranger starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski began production February 13 after months of off-again on-again drama over the project’s cost; the studio had pulled the plug altogether in August before reviving it after Bruckheimer and Verbinski were able to get the budget down. The movie is set for a July 3, 2013 release:

Lookin’ good. Thanks Deadline.
My teenage son (13) said the magic word — “Cooool.” It’ll do business.
Wow. This trailer did absolutely nothing for me.
That movie looks like SHIT !! ANOTHER BIG BUDGET BOMB
Oh, clean up your act.
It is just the first trailer. They will get better and draw us all in over time…right?
Absolutely, FTCS. It’s exactly what Disney did with ‘John Carter’ and we all know how well that turned out.
John carter wasnt bad at all however i dont know bout this lone ranger garbage
Not bad- but it looks like the TV show Hell on Wheels
Had the same reaction. It’s the slightly bigger “Hell on Wheels” with a title I used to have on a lunch box.
Hell on Wheels has a better soundtrack. This temp (?) track is terrible. The William Tell Overture is the most catchy, magnificent action music ever – and it’s in the public domain. A no brainer.
The one message I get from the trailer is that they spent a hell of a lot of money.
But I’m not really getting the “Buy A Ticket For An Entertaining Story” vibe I should be getting.
Overall score: Feh.
The movie’s called THE LONE RANGER but Tonto gets top billing? I don’t think so.
Disney did the same thing with “Alice in Wonderland”.
Someday we will see Johnny Depp in a movie without his face painted.
I hope not….. haven’t you seen the tourist. There’s a reason he never acts without face paint.
Never acts without face paint these days?
Wow! That’s awesome! Can’t wait
Not at all the vibe i had expected. Couldn’t tell if this was Wild Wild West 2 or Transformers western style, either way looks like a complete thud. Can only hope they’ll at least ditch the arss for tits shitty soundtrack shown in this trailer, and maybe hire say Wes Anderson or Tarantino as music consultants.
Because if there’s one thing Anderson is known for, it’s his work as a consultant on studio tent poles.
It could happen.
I saw COWBOYS AND ALIENS in a theatre, and I can tell you this: the audience actually really liked it at the start- when it was a straight-up western. Then the “ALIEN” part started- you know, the stuff that a modern audience is SUPPOSED to prefer to some old-fashioned cowboy action- and the film totally lost them.
TOTALLY relevant here.
Depp’s costume and makeup are repulsive. Whoever approved the dead bird hat should be fired it’s hideous. Also the budget went back up from 215 to at least 250 they are going to lose money on this turkey and they deserve to lose money on it. Disney should have made this for 90 million there was no reason to spend more.
Tonto, they probably approved it because Disney initially hated Capt. Jack’s dreadlocks, but then got a clue when all the positive feedback came in over his appearance. They dead bird is the least of my worries. The Lone Ranger looks like a bootleg Batman Begins on a horse. Cut better trailer & add the Ranger music!
No William Tell Overture is like Indiana Jones without The Raiders March…This is the same reason Disney dropped the ball on John Carter’s marketing, because they ran away from the property’s history and iconography, instead of embracing it…Hey, I suppose it’s not too late for them to retile it JOHN REID.
My sentiments actually, Coltrane. They got the name to the character, why not the rights to the music, or at least a score that lent itself to the period?
Pleeeze,, pleeze do not be Pirates of Caribbean western-style. That would be a total waste!
What in the heck did they spend 215 million dollars on? It doesn’t really look like their are too many crazy special effects or anything. Seems like it could have been done much more cheaply (and efficiently).
They spent too much money, BUT it looks like a great action movie and they will still make lots of money on it. So, all is well that ends well.
Who gets fired at Disney for this one?
It has the obligatory three Bruckheimer, it is an instant classic.
So, you’re saying these new-fangled trains just might change the world?
it certainly looks big. I hear they made the train, ran the track just for the film.. I call afoul on 215 million. I’d bet that number doesn’t scratch the surface..
You guys are hilarious with all of your “what did they spend the money on?” and “there are no special effects in this!”. The movie premieres in 9 months. It just wraped its production. You really expected to see all the effects and epic scenes in the first teaser? How about waiting for just a bit instead of writing stuff off based on a minute of early footage. Jesus, you guys are horrible.
There is one effect that will be critical to this film: erasing that stupid frickin bird hat from Depp’s head.
When did all the assistants in Hollywood become financing experts? Really people, you can’t leave the desk for five minutes let alone get on a set.
Despicable Me 2 is going to crush this.
Interested to see what Jack White does with the score
Pros: Looks slick and fun but…
Con: I think it’s outrageous that in 2012 Hollywood didn’t bother to use a Native American actor to, ya know, play a NATIVE AMERICAN?! I understand that Jonny Depp wants to expand his repertoire as an actor, but it’s insulting. Non-white actors are only permitted to play their own race and now, apparently, even that’s not a given. Shameful. I’m going to have to boycott this one on GP.
It’s useless complaining about this. The movie would not have been made except fro Depp’s star power, so he gets to play the role he wants. if he’d wanted to be The Lone Ranger, then that is the role he’d be given, and Tonto would lose star billing and go back to a supporting role.. If he wanted to play the damn horse, then Silver would get star billing. Nobody is going to build a hipuge budget movie around an unknown Native American actor and they’re all unknown, aren’t they? Biggest name is what, Wes Studi?
No William Tell Overture. No “Hi-Ho Silver..AWAY.” No hints or traces of the very things that has made The Lone Ranger an American icon. Smells like another John Carter level write off to me. $70 million opening because of Depp…70% drop-off 2nd weekend.
You’re amazing! You must get paid a lot of money for your future telling ability.
Where’s the big spider? It needs a big spider.
Christ, that made me laugh!
Love.
Depp will wear a spider on his head for the sequel.
Wow this looks pretty bad….
