There is no deal in place for him to write Lionsgate‘s two-part finale to The Hunger Games, but we’re hearing it’s likely to happen. The Game Change scribe is coming off a big Emmys, where the HBO movie swept the longform categories including winning for his script about Sarah Palin and the 2008 presidential race. Mockingjay is the third in the Suzanne Collins book trilogy and is being split into two movies a la Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows. The second movie in the franchise, Catching Fire, is due out November 23, 2013, while Mockingjay has been dated for November 21, 2014 (Part I) and November 20, 2015 (Part II). The first film in the series bowed in March and has grossed $685 million worldwide.

I mean do they really need a year between part 1 ans 2? Try really should have done what Harry potter did and do one in the fall and the next the following summer. A year is a long time to wait for part 2 of something that didn’t need a part 2 in the first place.
I’m sorry, but Lionsgate is just so f’ing cheap. You had a huge hit with Gary Ross and Billy Ray writing. Why switch it up? They got the material – they made a great film. If Gary Ross wants a %, you give it to him because he delivered a hit film.
Been a fan of his since Buffy, glad to see him making it!
I personally may think the Hunger Games sucks, but I recognize its strength as a female-targeted action franchise, and if you wanted to ever give the Hunger Games the seal of quality, there’s no one better than Danny Strong to do it.
Go Danny! You are a real talent!
Let me guess, President Coin is going to be ‘imagined’ as some thinly veiled Sarah Palin rip-off so everyone can cheer when she gets killed?
I don’t understand why they don’t have Suzanne Collins write the script, she was a TV writer before becoming a novelist so she knows script writing and she certainly is familiar with the story.
More excited for his tv series based on the defense attorney with deniro and o’russell
Love Danny Strong!
Congrats to Danny! He’s a terrific writer and also a nice person, which is so refreshing in this business. He’s going to do a good job.
