2ND UPDATE: Marvel Studios just debuted its first full trailer for Iron Man 3 which will be in theaters in Digital 3D and RealD on May 3, 2013. Once again starring Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Don Cheadle, this
threequel is directed by Shane Black who also wrote the screenplay with Drew Pearce. According to the official boilerplate, Tony Stark (Downey) this time has his back against the wall on a quest to find his enemy. ”Stark also discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?” Marvel’s iconic superhero first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in 1968. Iron Man 3 is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures and DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is producing and Disney is distributing.

Pretty lazy trailer work. Whoever mixed that should be fired.
What bugged you about it? I suppose some of the movie SFX (glove flying to hand, chopper weapons deploying) didn’t feel very organic. Hard to know if those came from the production or were recreated by the trailer shop. But I dug the music and some of the transition sounds. The strangest sound effect might be Ben Kingsley’s accent. I’m reminded of his delightfully odd vocal stylings in “Sneakers”.
At 00:41 “I hope I can protect the one thing I can’t live without.”
That sticks out like a sore thumb. It’s pretty bad.
I think Shane may have pulled it off. This trailer looks pretty good to me…. BUT more importantly, it will look LIKE GOD ALMIGHTY HIMSELF to all the 6-28 year old males out there!!!! Way to go, Shane!
Lighten up.
Looks pretty alright to me.
I’m stoked to watch it.
Yes. You do have a lot of apologies to make for how bad Iron Man 2 was. That being said that trailer was pretty damn sweet. Really rooting for Shane Black to deliver. Man I love Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
I have never understood all the hatred for “Iron Man 2.” Was it a great film? Not even close. Was it terrible? Not even close. It was a bit rushed, and offered little that the first Iron Man didm’ already show us, but it was hardly Marvel’s “Heaven’s Gate.”
Why do I have to download QuickTime to watch this? Why can’t they release it as a normal YouTube video that anyone can watch? Screw it I’m not downloading anything just to watch a trailer.
So watch the YouTube version. Problem solved.
Get off your horse, drop your bayonet, and go download QuickTime now.
I am not certain that Shane Black intended to make the best Iron Man film, but if this trailer is a true representation of the entire movie, he most definitely did.
Wowser!!!!
This is a great teaser. It’s got all the big shots a moviegoer could want, but it feels really intimate and emotional. When the big missile attack comes as the payoff, there’s heart in the CGI bombast. Epic and serious but not overly dark. Love it.
Way to go, Shane! Despite being a kickass screenwriter, he truly has an affinity and a love for pulp and adventure storytelling — so he should truly bring the Iron Man hero mythos to life! Plus, it’s great that RD Jr re-teamed with Shane after KKBB gave him a wonderful platform to resurrect his career. A true Super-Talent Team-Up!
I also love “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” and thought Shane Black reteaming with RDJr for “Iron Man 3″ was a really good idea. But this dark, humorless teaser has me worried.
Pure speculation: The quippy, snarky Iron Man persona we know and love was featured prominently in all the marketing for THE AVENGERS, not to mention the oft-viewed movie itself. Someone somewhere in the Marvel camp figures everyone already knows funny Iron Man. So they decide to avoid possible audience fatigue and use the first major taste of IM3 to show the serious side of Tony Stark. No doubt, the next more straightforward trailer will feature plenty of RDJ’s comedic edge.
People here were worried about the Avengers trailer and said it looked like Transformers. You shouldn’t be worried.
Absolutely EPIC.
This fanboy just had a NERDGASM.
I expect to see it but not because of this. That said, I look forward to seeing what Mr. Black does with Mandarin – Ben Kingsley is a good start.
So, they decided to darkknighted Iron Man. Cannot say that looks appealing.
I liked Avengers enough, but the thought of more and more solo Marvel movies doesn’t excite me – and neither does this trailer.
Who is DMG Entertainment? Does Disney really not fully fund these movies themselves?
Co-producer and co-financier of the flick. They did LOOPER too.
Crazy awesome trailer – looks like Pepper and Happy also take some serious beating … and Tony Stark has a fetish for busty fluffy stuffed toys? Hmmm LOL. Can’t wait to see the whole thing!
Disliked Iron Man 2 and The Avengers, but this looks entertaining enough.
Is someone else in the suit or is this a Superman 3 moment??? Slightly kidding…
Awful trailer, and Observer, no studio finances their own movies, they all borrow, like buying a house every time.
This looks AWESOME!!
The music is EPIC! Great trailer. More Dark Knight and less frollicky than the other Iron Man trailers.
Was the name Iron Man Rises already taken. Deja Vu all over again..
Does every genre movie with a less than comedic take have to be a rip off of DARK KNIGHT? Nolan didn’t invent the “dark tone.”
Dark Knight Rises hardly invented that story from scratch.
Sort of a weird tonal shift in that most Marvel films emphasize their lightness and humor, but after Iron Man 2 and The Avengers really played up the Stark humor, it’s sort of refreshing to get something different.
wow!!!!!!!! and I’m a Hater
I think this trailer did exactly what it was supposed to do. Viewers have already seen 3 movies with the playful, joking and smart-ass Tony Stark and it has always been known that they would make IM3 into a more serious movie and even IM2 showed some signs of that. Shane Black did a wonderful job putting a good spin on it for the first trailer and it certainly got the fanboys and fangirls talking about it. Can’t wait for the next trailer. Go RDJ.
Enough with the Dark Knight Rises comparisons. DKR was hardly the first to do the tear-the-hero-down/must-rise-again story. Superman II is just one that jumps to mind.
…plus DKR was boring and just not very good. This, on the other hand, looks positively EPIC.
meh. bring on Avengers 2.
It’s Shane Black at the helm, there is no way this will be anything like a Nolan movie. Thank God!!!
