Jake Wagner has moved to Benderspink, where he will head up the company’s management division. He brings with him lit clients such as Evan Daugherty (Snow White And The Huntsman), John Swetnam (Category 6), Andrew Knauer (Last Stand), Chris Denham (Home Movie), Micah Barnett (The Rabbit), John Sullivan (Science Fair), Tripper Clancy (Henry The Second), Lucas Sussman (The Hunt), Chris Roach/John Richardson (Non Stop), and Ethan Maniquis (Machete). He also brings actor Greg Finley (Secret Life Of The American Teenager). Partners JC Spink, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner called Wagner “one of the brightest young managers out there.” He’d been at FilmEngine.
Wagner will also help with Benderspink’s movie and TV production and its comic and transmedia initiatives. Benderspink’s producing credits include the upcoming The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and We’re The Millers for New Line Cinema, The Hangover 3 for Warners, and Ride Along for Universal. They recently set up The Order with Scott Stuber at Universal, The Planet Thieves with David Heyman at Warners, Lockdown At Franklin High with Platinum Dunes at Sony Pictures and The New West with Sketch Films at New Regency.

Congrats to Mr. Wagner. I don’t know him, but let this be a warning to his writers. Benderspink does not look out for you. You are a means to an end. They only care about producing. This is why all their best writers have jumped ship. Even as a client, everything you write will be a laborious audition process. If it doesn’t fit their mandate, and they don’t want to produce it, you basically have no manager. BS are notorious for this. I hope Mr. Wagner aims to remedy this in regard to his stable of writers. Good luck guys.
I’d bet a lot of the pushback from Sull’s comment is coming directly from Benderspink’s IP address.
Sull is spot on. Benderspink is a “management company” only insofar as it “manages” writers that Benderspink is producing.
The only way this business stays a float for agents/managers is to take a cut of producing fees. EVERYONE takes a piece–agents commission producers, managers co-produce. The only way to avoid it is to not have an agent or a manager. Good luck with that.
@ok/Chris:
Does that kind of straw-man bluster actually WORK in the green building? Or have so many clients and employees left by now that no one hears you anyway?
No one’s arguing that managers shouldn’t take a cut. But what they must never do — and what Benderspink does — is to claim to “manage” writers while using them as an unpaid, in-house “writing pool.” It’s disgusting.
BS still sells more material than anyone. In a time where no one is selling anything that seems like a better place to be than most.
4 movies? THEY GET MOVIES MADE. If my manager was able to get my movies made then I would gladly let him produce.
Why are the comments always really nice or really mean? Seems like a good move for both parties. How’s that for a middle of the road comment?
Big fan of Wagner. Good dude. Congrats.
All solid peeps!
Jakes a good dude, congrats. Good get for Chris and jc
Congrats to Jake, he is a great guy and super smart. Good move by Benderspink!
Ummmmm…..Does anyone want to hire those clients to do anything? Maybe Evan, but seriously???????
This is a good merging of the minds.
Wagner, really? All I have to say is that’s a perfect company for that guy. He and JC are two peas in a pod.
The idea that Benderspink is not friendly to writers is complete bull. Benderspink has always been a writer friendly company. They are a great team. And Wagner is a hustler who works hard for his clients. It’s a good merging. Wagner can now also link his clients with internal projects. Makes a lot of sense in my opinion.
Congrats to him and his clients.
Congrats Jake! Great manager with great taste.
This is a huge win for Benderspink. Jake Wagner is one of the best managers in the business and both company and him will enjoy great success together. Also worth mentioning Wags was blessed with excellent hair.
BenderSpink still has a management division?
Jake’s the man!! Smart move by all.
Final nail in the coffin.
Jakesters! Duuuude….you deserve this!! Congrats and best wishes.
Congratulations Jake!!!
