UPDATE: On Twitter, Jennifer Esposito disputed CBS TV Studios’ account of why she is going on a leave, slamming them for sidelining her and callling it ”absolutely shameful behavior”.
“CBS PUT me on unpaid leave and has blocked me from working anywhere else after my doctor said you needed a reduced schedule due to Celiac,” she wrote.
“CBS didn’t listen to my doc and I collapsed on set. Which everyone saw! After a week off my doc said I could return to work but CBS implied that I was NOT truly ill and this was a scheme to get a raise! It’s been almost two months without bringing me back to work + keeping Me from working anywhere else!… Absolutely shameful behavior.”
PREVIOUS… EXCLUSIVE: Jackie Curatola is leaving the force, at least for now. Blue Bloods co-star Jennifer Esposito, who plays Detective Danny Reagan’s (Donnie Wahlberg) partner, is departing the CBS drama series for the foreseeable future. “Jennifer has informed us that she is only available to work on a very limited part-time schedule,” CBS TV Studios said in a statement. “As a result, she’s unable to perform the demands of her role and we regretfully had to put her character on a leave of absence.” The studio would not comment on Esposito’s reasons to ask for the significant workload reduction, but the actress has been public about her struggles with Celiac Disease. She has become a Celiac advocate, educating people about disease and helping those like her who have it.
Esposito has already shot her final Blue Bloods episode (for now), which will air Nov. 2. In the meanwhile, CBS and CBS TV Studios are lining up actresses to do guest arcs as Danny Reagan’s temporary partner. First off is Megan Ketch, who will be introduced in the same Nov. 2 episode, titled Nightmares, and is signed for four episodes. (This is picture of her filming the episode.) CBS TV Studios is leaving the door for Esposito to come back. “She is a wonderfully talented actress and we hope that she will be able to return at some point in the future,” the studio said.
But if that doesn’t happen, the studio and CBS will likely go for a permanent replacement, likely with one of the actresses who guest starred on the show. Coincidentally, Esposito was among several actresses tried out as temporary partners for Danny in guest arcs at the beginning of Season 1. Shortly thereafter, she was promoted to regular. Ketch is with ICM Partners.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Too bad, she plays one of my favorite characters on the show — I wish her well.
Man what a bummer. The central Jennifer/Donnie relationship is THE SINGLE REASON to watch this show. The rest of that family is so boring. Like watching paint dry. No one is going to be able to replicate the chemistry Esposito and Wahlberg have. I am going to have to stop watching until CBS corrects this massive mistake. Give that woman whatever she wants to stay on that show!
There is more to this than meets the eye. CBS would not risk a disability lawsuit. But to take it at face value, IF she claimed she is not able to work more than say 2 days a week, that is not realistic with this kind of production that shoots 8 day episodes and often on locations in NYC. It is also a role that requires some running and other physical action and this might have affected the production’s ability to be insured. As far as CBS not paying her and not allowing her to work elsewhere, that is not true. Any actor can be let go at any time and their only protection is being paid for the amount of episodes they are guaranteed in their contract (pay-or-play). CBS will have to pay whatever is guaranteed, but if she works for someone else, they then don’t have to pay her for those specific dates. Since she would unlikely earn the same amount, it is she who will choose not to work elsewhere and get paid off her full amount. Yes, she and Donnie had nice chemistry, but she is not the cornerstone of the show and it will go on just fine.
To “Truth” – Under the Family Medical Leave act studios and other employers are not required to abide by the pay-or-play or “all shows produced” rules. They can claim she is on a disability leave, and therefore not pay/use her AND also not release her from her contract thus making it impossible for her to work elsewhere. It happens to actresses all the time who have had a baby.
The can always find a way around things to fit what they want. They just have another actor to take her place.
“The rest of the family is boring”? You idiot! This is the best show on CBS and you call it “boring”. Bug off…
Sorry but Will Estes and Bridget Moynahan both have the charisma of a piece of loose leaf. And it’s very idiotic to call someone an idiot for having an opinion. And small minded. And petty.
You can’t recognize excellent actors. Jealous?
You are absolutely correct. Bridget is dry dry dry – no expression or emotion about anything – the old dude is the same way. They could lose either and no one would notice they were gone. The only good part of the show is the street activity and the heavy decision making at the top.
I love the show…. Wishing her well and hope she will be back soon.
Your right! It’s wrong all the way around what CBS is doing and I think the public should finally take a stand and not watch any CBS shows all together.. Make their rateings go down on all their shows not just the ones we like… Hit them in the pocket book! then the suits will listen to the public that pays their checks and keeps their shows on the air! We the public can run the show from the back lines even if we cant in the board room where all this BS is going on… Stand up america! Shut CBS down if they dont bring back Esposito the chemistry is really there and I so looked forward to Friday nights with the blue bloods.. Bringing in Megan will just turn the show in to a soap opera and bring down the acting of Walberg. He’s great with Esposito…. Come on CBS get something right!!!!!!!!! NO CBS UNTIL ESPOSITO COMES BACK!!!!!!LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!!
Tammy, can you be this serious about a television show? How about showing such passion for a cure for diabetes?
Get real.
Why not have passion for a TV show? Of course we can/should have passion for curing disease but what can we really do to create this cure? Other than donating money to the cause. We can have passion and opinions about anything we want and we shouldn’t be told to get real.
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!
As much as I would miss Esposito and her struggles, I would not risk having to boycott the show just to bring her back. I know you’re passionate, but don’t take it out on the cast and crew and the millions of fans who watch the show since day one. Not worth it.
I saw Jennifer on the set few weeks ago, she didnt look, she needs time off. CBS can not always take the fault for it, her role is not that demanding, if she cant handle it, work somewhere else.
I think CBS should be fined for failing to follow medical orders or something. Maybe failing workers comp stuff. Anyway I am going to find something to watch in this time slot.
Count me in on a boycott and whatever else to get her back on the show. The chemistry between Danny and Jackie is excellent — I miss her already. Friday’s show with the new “detective” was boring — she is not for Danny or the part. I love BlueBloods and leave it to the cheap network to come up with nonsense like this! I am boycotting the sponsors staqrting now – CBS: you are idiots and control freaks! Jennifer Esposito: get better and stronger and we hope to see you back – you are excellent!!!
Come on you guys are all for the boycott of CBS, that is until your favorite show comes on then what? Let’s save our fights for something that really matters ok. I liked Jennifer in that role also in fact I’d wondered what happened to her. But, we can’t control what CBS or any other network does or doesn’t do even it you’re a nielsen rater so if you don’t like what’s happening just change the channel or turn the tube off.
CBS has done this before. They could have found a way to write a script to fit her in. How many scenes have the written where Danny and her are in the precinct and not outside running or allot of physical activity. In most jobs, if you are working and have a health condition, which in this case is treatable, Management works with you. Years ago, Directors and Producers, most of them, did care but today it seems like they do not look at the big picture. This was on the top of my favorites list, along with many of my friends, but now we have moved this down our list. Also we are thinking of writing their advertisers about do they condone with what they did with Jennifer. She is not looking for more money, just a chance to work. To blacklist her also is a crime in itself. Shame on CBS
I love her and hope they bring her back…there is great chemistry and I think she does a fabulous job
I hope she will be able to return soon as she is a favorite character of mine. She has great charisma with Danny as well as portraying a strong working single woman in a very difficult career.
It’s a terrible shame as she was great on the show and I truly enjoyed her with Danny. I have the same disease and it’s a shame that CBS can’t make allowances. Don’t know the whole story but shame on CBS if it is true.
My husband and I watch Blue Bloods, every episode, and we love the character of Jackie. What a terrible shame for CBS not to be able to work things out. We wish Jennifer all the very best and hope that a fair and respectful agreement can be met. How can CBS keep her from making a living while having her on unpaid leave? Something is not right.
I will do the same shame on CBS
this new girl does absoluty no justice for this part of the show I cant even feel this show now. danny needs to have Jackie back what are the producers thinking of if you can,t find someone better than this get jackie back, wow this is crazy my favorit show.
Bring her back!!!
I agree. Miss her as Danny,s partner, believable and adds so much to the show. Get her back and be sympathetic to her illness.
I haven’t watched the show since she left. I realized what made me tune in was the chemistry between she and Donnie Wahlberg.
DITTO DITTO DITTO, ETC. ETC., ETC.!!!!
I totally agree…I am so mad they took her off…She was perfect I haven’t seen any way to inform CBS how I feel…Maybe we can make a difference!!!!
I am truly shocked to hear this. Blue Bloods is my favorite show and I really like Jennifer playing Jackie as Danny’s partner. They are great together and I don’t want to see her go!
I watch Blue Blood every week. If this is the way they are treating the actors, I guess I’ll watch something else. If the network can’t treat the actors right I don’t need to spend my time watching. Why won’t the other stand up for her?
Esposito’s is not a central character, but it is very unfortunate that she has these problems. I hope she can get better.
When she was tied to a bomb in one episode this season I thought her character was gone.
I think the story of her and Walberg deserves another show on its own, it is awkward on some episodes the double stories of the family and them two.
I love Blue Bloods, but I would like Tom Selleck’s character not to be so “wise” and “righteous” all the time.
Love Tom Selleck, only one complaint, his heavy nose exhalation is so distracting! Hoping Jennifer returns too! Absolutely one of the best shows on TV!
Bring Jennifer back. why do u guys have to ruin a good thing. May have to stop watching, u have a good cast leave it alone. CBS should be ashamed how they are handing Jennifer’s situation. May have to stop watching.
Me too – it’s not the same without the character of Jackie!
Bring Jennifer back
I will not watch the show with out her
CBS…the powers tat be are so DUMB….they made the same DUMB decision about JJ on Criminal Minds and ended up bringing her back because of the public uproar. These guys are tone deaf. She is an integral part of the sow and they should bring her back and then RESIGN
I have talked to a bunch of people at work and a lot of other people. Almost all agree that they may stop watching if Espisito doesn’t come back as she and danny are great together and a huge part of the show. If she doesn’t come back ot will trigger the start of a downfall for a great tv show. I formone will stop watching if she isn’t back on soon.
Jackie is one of my favorites and she is what keeps Danny beliveable. Without her I feel he will be lost, it is their partnership that helps make this show great. I look forward to seeing her back in the very near future. I hope CBS doesn’t mess us a good thing.
They are making a mistake
I don’t understand! She was perfect for this role and I guess they don’t understand that disease to make her leave. I think she just needs to be careful what she eats! I love this show and miss her!
For a show that is based enterly around the family it is shameful that CBS will not take care of one of their own family members. My wife has celiacs and it is something that is hard to understand how difficult it is to live and deal with. It is amazing that this actress is able to do as much as she has. CBS needs to take care of her however she needs. I will not watch this show again until they do.
I agree, I won’t watch this program until they do right for Jennifer Esposito. Shame on you CBS! Please do the right thing for her, celiac disease is a terrible thing to have and stress or exacerbates the problem.
What a shame, just watched the episode with new partner, AWFUL<AWFUL AWFFUL< need Eposito back!!!!!! Show is no good without her, very disappointed.
I miss Jackie . C’mon CBS she is part of the success of the Blue Bloods.
I love Jennifer Esposito on this show! She brings a different slant than the other actors who can be a bit stiff and stuffy (even though I really like the show). She is great in this role and I am not excited about her replacement at all! Bring her back!
Bring her back soon! I don’t care for the replacements actresses. Jennifer makes the show!
megan ketch needs to go….nothing cop-like bout her.
The show is not the same without Jackie she was a great conter personality to Regan and is missed. Too bad ego’s got involved in good entertainment offerings which are slim these days.
CBS is crazy to mess with the cast like this. Really Really dumb move. Boycott the show? ABSOLUTELY! Bring Jackie back CBS – or whoever is making these decisions!
I hate to see Jennifer go, I have enjoys her so much, and in other movies also, my fav was on Hallmark, absolutely love Blue bloods especially the family table part. Jennifer compliments Donnie on the program and is not a threat to his marriage, whereas the new gal seems like she would threaten a little, Danny and linda are to cute of a couple. The whole family thing is great. Please reconsider and bring Jennifer back and help with her disease instead of fighting her over it.
You have ruined the show by getting rid of Jennifer. Part time or not, any time is better than who you have in there now.
I am a celiac sufferer and this is disgusting to me! Its a pretty devastating disease! mine caused Colon Cancer and nearly killed me! I am sorry to hear such a great show is capable of such suckish behavior! I saw Jennifer on Dr Oz, and found her segment enlightening! We need to see her back on Blue Bloods!
Blue Bloods is not the same without the team of Donnie W. and Jennifer E. CBS Once again made an unfortunate decision. Bill W.
And they apparently decided to save some money by having Ms. Ketch simply wear Ms. Esposito’s wardrobe – at least according to that picture.
All kidding aside, thoughts and prayers are with Ms. Esposito and that she will be okay.
Blue Bloods is great with Jennifer/Wahlberg on the set I was very disappointed, surprised to see another replacing her, not the same without Jackie, need her back, put her back on the set, not the same, I don’t like to watch without Jackie, she is the partner for Danny and no other. Don’t ruin the show. The show is Jackie! Put Jackie back! Not fair, not right. I love Jackie, she is the role with Danny, don’t change, Jackie! Please bring her back. No Jackie no Blue Bloods. Take Blue Bloods away without Jackie or continue Blue Bloods with Jackie.
My wishes, pray go to Esposito for getting better and recovering from Celiac Disease. But, Esposito, you can do it and we are supporting you get back on Blue Bloods.
I’m sorry to hear that because Jennifer is one of the best parts of the show. Her and Danny’s storylines are the most interesting to watch! I really hope she’ll be back.
What is wrong with CBS? They have a great combination with “Jackie & Danny” and oneof the best shows onh TV. Wake up and bring Jennifer back!!
They let her go, not from the Celiac, but because she’s a nightmare. She was late, unprepared, and once didn’t show entirely. They had to work a Saturday because of her. Unprofessional, entitled, yuck.
You obviously do’t have much of a clue about Celiac disease.
It’s very rare for Celiac Disease to affect somebody to this extent unless they continue to eat gluten. The fatigue associated from Celiac’s and only Celiac’s shouldn’t cause somebody to have to miss work like this.
She’s either suffering from another condition or there’s something else going on here.
How do you know? DO you actually suffer from celiac? My gastroenterologist took two blood tests for celiac AFTER I was off gluten for 2 months the first time then 18 months the second time. He doesn’t know what he is doing. You’re supposed to scope to check for celiac. The blood test is not very accurate. I have a few friends with celiac. If I eat anything with wheat I get bumps on my chin and my food goes through me in about two hours and I have to eat again. Before I tried not eating gluten, I was starving all the time. My colleagues teased me about all the food I was eating. I got dizzy often. I couldn’t really exercise because I was bloated or otherwise uncomfortable and didn’t have energy.
I’ve been living gluten-free and I still periodically have problems and am not as ravenous as I was before, but often feel hungry. One of my friends who is a diagnosed celiac still has problems too. I’ve lost lots of muscle and my weight is quite a bit under my ideal weight. I was very athletic before and muscular.
People who don’t have it are totally insensitive. We always have to eat before parties, even dinner parties because gluten is in so many different foods, dressings, seasonsings and sauces.
TRY LIVING WITHOUT GLUTEN FOR A MONTH.
No but I’ve been treating it for years and have a couple friends who have Celiac’s. Many doctors who don’t stay up to date are unfamiliar with Celiac’s and leave it out of the possible diagnosis when a patient describes their digestive/fatigue/weight loss issues. Often it is misdiagnosed for IBS, Crohn’s, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome…
Like I said, I have a hard time believing that Celiac’s, and only Celiac’s, is the cause of Esposito’s problems.
As for you, it sounds like you may be suffering from another condition as well or haven’t found a nutritious gluten-free diet. For example, many Celiac’s think gluten-free = no carbs and are shocked when I tell them that rice is gluten-free. There’s no reason for you to be “starving” and losing muscle. Many people who are NOT Celiac’s are going gluten-free for the health benefits and many patients have told me that a gluten-free diet has eliminated their “food comas” and that they feel more energetic.
I think you should do some more homework on gluten-free diets, take B12 supplements, and punch your colleagues when they tease you… Some of us may sound insensitive but the overdramatization of Celiac’s disease is a bit ridiculous.
There are many gluten free products available. Stick to whole fruits and veggies and meats, and read, read, read, the labels. It’s doable. I really liked her on this show, but for me Tom Selleck’s character is why I watch. Much to learn from this character.
Well obviously you didn’t read the part where it said she had a disease which you forgot to mention in your reply. Imagine struggling with this disease everyday of your life. That’s why she was late and unprepared. Think about it and do your research.
I really do hate it when people try and get sympathy for being a Celiac. I have been diagnosed for ten years and as long as you are strictly avoiding gluten, most symptoms cease.
LT-
And what do you know about Celiac Disease and how debilitating it can be? anything at all? Apparently nothing.
Then, please, do not make comments.
Celiac “disease” is a simple intolerance to foods containing Gluten.
djt – WRONG! It is an autoimmune disease. If not diagnosed early enough, it causes damage to the intestines. Nutrients aren’t properly absorbed by your body and. your doctor tests your blood for the right number of nutrients and organ function, you may have be lucky if you can take supplements to help. It’s all very expensive and shopping for food can be a long process until you realize, you have to make a lot of things from scratch.
Try living gluten-free for a month; that also means no beer. See how you like it.
And you know this “how”?
study up on the disease before you make such stupid statements.there is this old saying, goes like this, let people think you are an idiot and never open your mouth to prove them correct
One of my favorite characters. Very sad about how she has been treated. Check her twitter…basically she has been suspended for having Celiac disease! @JennifersWayJE
No one needs a reduced schedule due to Celiac. Trust me…I have it. I haven’t missed a day of work in 3 years. She just wants sympathy.
Celiac effects different people in different ways. My sister has it and I can absolutely see her being in that position if she was overworked. I have friends who have it as well and sometimes it gets to be a lot, whereas other friends I know who have it aren’t particularly bothered by it as long as they mostly keep to whatever they should be eating. You can’t judge everyone else by your own experience.
Those 18 hour days you have to endure must be exhausting (I assume you are a working actor as that is the ONLY way to compare working conditions). Fatigue is one of the most prevalent symptoms of celiac disease. Have you collapsed on set or had abdominal pain and bloating?
Lucky you! What did you have ….some tummy ouchies?
Some people, like Jennifer and me have serious complications from Celiac. (anemia, diabetes, thyroid disease, ataxia, lymphoma)
I had to leave my teaching job because of it and I had dozens of debilitating symptoms. I almost died from this thing. Celiac is a multi-system disease and can be devastating.
You should ADVOCATE for a fellow celiac instead of beating her up.
Shame on YOU!
Celiac’s effects everyone differently you can not say how yours is and compare it to another. That is just putting your opinion over someone else fact! Jennifer was great on that show, and they are need to accommodate her til she gets more stable with her Celiac’s. Health is not a game to fire someone over.
Well, you’ve been very lucky, then. Even being very careful, I’ve been “glutened” by restaurants who claim to have gluten free menus and have then been forced to miss work while I recover. Try not to be so judgemental. If you have Celiac, you should know that it affects each person differently.
The CBS side is a lie. She collapsed on set due to her disease. After a week off the Dr said she could return to work-they wouldn’t let her return & have stopped her from working anywhere else. Lousy move CBS!!! I love that show but the powerful $$ people suck!!!!
Really. Such bs
Too bad CBS decided that not only is she off the show due to her illness, but they’re keeping her from working anywhere else too and putting out this article to make it look like it was all on Jennifer. Absolutely shameful behavior on CBS.
CBS is really messing up. How unfair they are. Jackie is a wonderful addition to the show. CBS also taken CSA Miami off.
They are only interested in the almighty Dollar. Boo and Hiss.
This article is untrue. The putt her on unpaid leave because they think she is lying about her sickness, they are also keeping her in contract which prevents her from working anywhere else. I hope she sues them.
WHat a baby. Actors are coddled. Esposito will be lucky if she ever gets near a hit show again.
): I love her and Donnie together, they have a great partnership, I don’t know that another actor will have that bond with him.
Jennifer is not taking a leave of absence, she’s been replaced, plain and simple. This is coming FROM HER. She’s not happy with the way she’s been treated, she’s not happy about leaving, and the whole situation is very upsetting to her. CBS is making a VERY big mistake here and I hope it doesn’t cost Blue Bloods a lot in ratings. I’d hate to see this show tank because they let go of one of the awesome co-stars in this show. I mainly watch for Donnie but I’ve grown attached to Jennifer and I hate to see her being forced to leave. I hope CBS reconsiders and allows her to come back.
I so agree, I hope there not making a mistake either, bc I really like the show, love Donnie Wahlberg, they are a perfect pair, just don’t see anyone else feeling her shoes, worried abt the ratings on this one, CBS better get her back
I don’t think this will do anything against the show, she’s a side character that’s good but replaceable, lets be honest
I’ve watched BB from the beginning & Danny has the best chemistry with Jackie. Jennifer Esposito brings so much humor and warmth to a tough role. Id hate to see her leave, but don’t see how they’ll bring her back after things went sour!
I hope they release her from her contract and don’t put their PR spin that she agreed to leave. I understand the network needs an actress who needs to be able to keep up with the strenous schedule of a tv show. If Jennifer is not up to task, fine. But treat her fairly and don’t lie to the viewers!
To the doubters, Celiac is a very serious disease. For more information, see http://www.celiac.org. It is an autoimmune and malnutritive disorder ; it is often called the most misdiagnosed disorder in the US. Ms. Esposito has her own site: Jennifer’s Way.
Perhaps this should have been addressed in her contract, not after she started the show. As far as, her contract, most actors’ agents negotiate their contracts with a provision for health and if you opt out of your contract early, or if an actor can not fulfill their contract, there is a waiting period before CBS or anyone else will let her out of her contract. These are standard issues.
It doesn’t say when she was diagnosed. None of my friends were born with it. My problems started around age 46 before that, I was a “carboholic” – lots of bread and pasta to power my workouts.
That’s a complete outright lie. You should not speak on something you have absolutely no knowledge of.
CBS is making a big mistake. Esposito and Wahlberg have GREAT chemistry together. I watch Blue Bloods for their partnership and for Tom Selleck and Len Cariou. The rest of the show is DOA.
Now CBS has a big problem with Blue Blood fans as well as a HUGE problem with The Good Wife and the preposterous, boring storyline between Kalinda and Nick.Fans hate the story-line.I stopped watching Good Wife last week and now will stop watching Blue Bloods on Nov. 2. Thanks, but no thanks.
I hate to see her leave to but that’s not going to stop me from watching the show. The new partner is just tempory, so get over it and watch it. Best wishes to Jennifer
Agreed! My favorite parts are with Jackie and Danny. I’ve lost some interest in the show when they didn’t focus on their partnership as much last season. I do love some of the other characters, but none fit the same dynamic as these two. And the sister, Erin, that one is way too snobby and boring for me.
I don’t think the show will suffer at all with Jennifer leaving and a new partner coming in.
I like the Blue Bloods episodes that mix in the entire family. When they actually give her something to do, Erin brings a well-needed lawyer’s perspective to the show and some balance to the over the top police-hero rhetoric. Otherwise the show is so one dimensional, and the the writing is paint-by-numbers in its simplicity. The Danny/Jackie crime of the week show have been repetitive, and they usually came across as arrogant and thug-like NY cops, abusing most everyone they encountered.
Shame on you CBS, let Jennifer come back to work or let her go so that she can go find work somewhere else. CBS have also missed a golden opportunity for a great storyline, they could have played up the feelings between Danny and Jackie and have them moved to partner others because of it but still had Jennifer in the show in the background. Instead, they in effect fire her but with no pay and all because of a condition she can’t do anything about. Disgusting!
So a big corporation drops her for a pre-existing condition. That sounds familiar.
First, I agree — she’s one of the best parts of the show, her relationship with Wahlberg being another. Second, I’m appalled that a serious medical condition isn’t being given more leeway. Third. Isn’t CBS’ move illegal? Unless CBS can say they’ve done every reasonable thing to make this work, they are breaking the law. Sue, baby, sue!!
Really…? You think CBS would ever go ahead with something that’s illegal without covering themselves? Her disease was plainly stated in her medical file from the beginning, then she pulled a slimey move trying to get out of working or be compensated for her extra hours. Transparent doesn’t even cover it.
Really, I DO think major corporations can be that stupid and try illegal moves. There’s a reason Labor and Employment lawyers thrive in the US, and it’s not lack of business.
Without Esposito, the show is heading for tanksville. Her character is the only interesting/likeable female on the show. And she had great chemistry with Wahlberg. CBS are idiots.
I’m not sure who to believe, but I can say chronic illnesses can affect people in different ways. Maybe that’s the situation here? At any rate, the show is losing a very valuable character.
That is bullying ! How dare CBS do that to anyone ! Isn’t there worldwide stands against bullies yet CBS can do it bullshit!! I would sue!!!!!!!!!!
Hollywood has a long, long history of victimizing actors, then lying about it. She ought to vindicate her story by having her doctor release a statement. What Hollywood calls a “difficult” actor is often an actor who won’t let themselves be mistreated by them.
I’m a little confused here. She took a job with a potentially grueling schedule, signed a contract, and THEN advised the production that she had a medical condition that required a reduced schedule? Is this right? Did she not have to submit to a cast medical? Did that medical condition not get revealed during that cast medical? It seems to me that if you have a serious medical condition that requires special accommodation, that HAS to be made known PRIOR to any contract agreement or you are risking losing that job when the condition becomes known if it results in you not being able to perform the job you were hired to do. You can have a disease such as celiac without needing accommodation for your work schedule. If you know that you need reduced hours, etc., you HAVE to make that known up front.
Actually, the Americans with Disabilities Act is very clear on this: people do not have to reveal their disabilities and the logic behind that is thatmost employers will immediately stop considering a potential employee if they learn they have a disability.
Actually, no. Are you at all familiar with HIPAA laws? I’m going to assume you’re not. Under no circumstances is an employee in the United States required to report what diseases or illnesses they may suffer from, because of the obvious discrimination that may occur.
By your logic, an employee with diabetes would need to tell their boss, simply because they might get light-headed.
She may not be a covered cast member under the production insurance policy, in which case, she wouldn’t have had to submit to a cast medical. Ok. (I don’t watch the show, so I have no idea how significant her part is) IF her celiac disease was significant enough at the time she was negotiating her contract, then she should have disclosed a need for ‘reasonable accommodation’. The Americans with Disabilities Act says the employer (or potential employer) cannot ask an applicant if they have a disability. However, it also says that if you have a disability that requires accommodation in the form of reduced work schedule, special equipment, etc., you should notify the employer. If the employee can perform the job they are being considered for with ‘reasonable accommodation’ from the employer, then the employer needs to make those accommodations. However, in this instance, I would argue that the need to take what I am guessing is a character that has significant screen time down to a part-time schedule would change the dynamic of the character. yes? So maybe CBS needs to reduce the screen time of the character? Perhaps that’s what they are doing while she is off work? I don’t know. Do you?
As for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), that prevents your doctors, clinics, insurers, etc., from disclosing your personal medical information to anyone without your authorization. So, I cannot call a hospital and ask how my neighbor is doing after his heart attack, unless he has specifically given the hospital permission to tell me. I don’t think, and I may be wrong, that HIPAA has much of anything to do in a situation like this as far as what was or wasn’t disclosed by the actor to CBS.
Bring back Jackie (Jennifer Esposito).
The temp detective Megan Ketch, I hope is just a temporary replacement. She does not compliment the show. Jackie and Danny are a perfect casting, made me believe from the first show they were loyal partners.
