EXCLUSIVE: Jennifer Garner‘s Vandalia Films has signed a first-look deal with Universal Television. The first project to come out of the pact is an untitled comedy from writer Ellen Rapoport, which has sold to NBC.
Rapoport will write the semi-autobiographical comedy, which was put together by Television 360 (Game Of Thrones), the TV division of Management 360. It tells the story of Allie, a nerdy, twentysomething overachiever who is befriended and taken in by two promiscuous party girls. They give her the adolescence she never had, while she teaches them how to grow up. Rapoport will executive produce with Television 360′s Daniel Rappaport and Meghan Lyvers and Vandalia’s Garner and Juliana Janes.
Rapoport, repped by CAA and Management 360, is currently rewriting feature The Pool for Chernin and Fox, which Will Speck and Josh Gordon are attached to direct. Her feature spec Desperados landed on the Black List in 2010 and has Mark Gordon producing. On the TV side, she wrote the ABC comedy pilot script Hot Mess last season.
The Ellen Rapoport comedy joins Television 360′s development slate, which includes the CW drama Expectations, written by J. Mills Goodloe and exec produced with Reese Witherspoon; Fox comedy Wendy & Peter, also exec produced by Witherspoon; HBO comedy Royal, written by Nick Schenk and exec produced by Peter Tolan; and Showtime drama The Oath, from Mark Heyman.
Vandalia Films previously had a deal with ABC Studios. On the feature side, the company produced the recently released Butter, starring Garner, Ty Burrell and Olivia Wilde, and is developing the Agatha Christie adaptation Miss Marple at Disney with Mark Frost penning. Garner is with Management 360 and WME.

IMO Ellen is one of the top female writers in the biz right now.
Congrats! Sounds great.
Garner just needs to stick a fork in her career and just raise her kids. Every movie she’s made bombs and now this sounds like another failure wating to happen except now on TV, the premise sounds horrible. Who is advising Jen nowadays on her career choices? Because they should be fired, and Miss Marple is still happening? Dear God, it’s almost like she loves to fail. Ben’s probably secretly enjoying his wife’s failures so he can keep working, be away from his family, and his wife can stay home and raise his kids.
Oh god! Don’t bring that horrible Marple thing up again!
It was however one of the most commented things on Deadline i’ve ever seen. Plus 99% were all on the same page. Which was rare to see.
I’m sorry but I don’t agree with you, Jane. The reason why she’s collecting so many ‘flops’ recently (is she really?) is that she gave more importance to her family than to her career – which I think is fair enough. My mother gave up her job when my brothers and I were born, it’s a choice a lot of women make. Thus, since she couldn’t spend too much time working, she’s decided to take part in productions like ‘Arthur’ and ‘The odd life of Timothy Green’ which did not require her to stay away from home for too long. What’s wrong with that? Also, she’s trying to make her film production company (Vandalia Films) grow but not in the ‘traditional’ sense: I don’t know if you watched ‘Butter’, it’s a really enjoyable comedy which also makes you think a lot about yourself, about the people around you and about the world. It was a flop, yes, but it was acclaimed by the critics. She’s not interested in producing blockbusters, she’s a really smart woman with a lot of brilliant ideas and she’s trying to make people realize she’s more than a Marvel character with no personality whatsoever. The Miss Marple idea, in my opinion, is a brilliant idea: a lot of people would love her to keep working for Disney’s after what they did with Timothy Green. Plus, she’s got a lot of money – she can afford to commit a mistake sometimes, don’t you think?
uh didn’t elizabeth banks set up this same exact idea at CBS already?
Awesome. Count me in.
If they have an overall deal at Uni, why do their managers need to be attached as an EP? More dead weight and money out of the pot…
It’s actually just “13 Going On 30″ without the body swap.
Its her management advising because they’re shoving their way onto the project
