Can Johnny Depp really act? I’m serious. He plays no real characters. They are all crèche tires. Dress up make up. Of he can act will he please begin to do Sean Penn roles now.
He can act as long as the role calls for one of his two modes: Prissy Weirdo or Drunken Lunatic That Lone Ranger flick may be a test of his thespian skills at long last, since it doesnt appear the role fits either.
And what the fuck is a “Real Character”? There is nothing real about movies, there never was and there never will be; that is what real life is for. You want to see real characters, maybe its about time you get up from in-front of your computer and take a walk around your neighborhood, you’ll see a lot of “real characters.”
Acting and movies is an art form, and like ever other form of art; every artist has their own VISION. So is Sean Penn is “Monet” of acting than Johnny Depp is “Michelangelo”
you can’t have seen many of his movies. Depp has done far more besides the POTC or Burton projects.
Re you kidding me? Can Johnny Depp act?! : Benny and Joon, Edward Scissorhands, What’s eating gilbert grape, Ed Wood, Fear and Loathing in La Vegas, Sleepy Hollow, The astronauts Wife, Blow, CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW!, WILLY WONKA, SWEENEY TODD, THE MAD HATTER ….BARNABUS COLLINS!
Not to mention getting out of hollywoods pin ups from 21 jump-street tv series in the 80′s!
Shakespeare has long been the foundation for many contemporary stories. For example, West Side Story seems to be a contemporary take on Romeo and Juliet. Lear has long been reworked for modern stories, and the inner conflicts of Hamlet are certainly strewn across many a screenplay or novel. And, that is only scratching the surface of Shakespeare characters and stories influence.
Perhaps this union can do something extraordinary, but the premise as outlined in this story is not exactly a WOW moment.
“The quality of mercy is not strained”, and as such, I will remain open minded without my often sarcastic comments.
I think Shakespeare’s PR people need a new head shot for him, that one is getting tired.
ha…maybe it’s that they all have a weird smirky look and mustache/goatee/beard combos.. but they all sort of look alike in those shots:)
Why am I suddenly thinking of the incredibly good comic, Kill Shakespeare?
Congratulations to Randy Fontana. A great writer and a great guy.
Ahem…excuse me but you want JD to go down in acting to play a Sean Penn role? & how old do you think Penn is anyway? You make it sound as though your idol is ancient oh wait maybe he is because its been awhile since his had a part! LOL
Oy
Just what the world needs, another Tom Fontana period piece that wastes the talents of terrific actors. Has anyone actually seen an entire episode of Copper who doesn’t have to watch it?
Please Tom, bring back OZ
you guys are all bitter and clueless. ok, part the point of comments is to be a forum to speak like mindless idiots (and of course intelligent opinions vary), but still, it’d be cool if you could learn your ass from left centerfield before you spout off like you know what you’re talking about, maybe raise the level of conversation to at least sub-primordial.
Sean Penn is a huge ham, guilty of the # 1 Actor’s Sin: playing for the camera. The actor’s most important job is to make the audience forget there is a camera. Oh, and hooking up with Scarlett J. was not classy either: ew! His daugther is 21/22, so only about five years younger than Scarlett. Ew, dirty old man!
Johnny Depp is underrated and humble. One of his best roles was “Don Juan DeMarco” from 1995. He’s great as Jack Sparrow, but it’s a shame most people know him from the “Pirates” films, and have not watched him in anything else.
