Cool. Obama just won the geek vote
Another Liberal guy, who is totally clueless….God Hollywood disgusts me, and I’m a Movie Director…
So are saying that all liberals are clueless? or just Whedon, who is making a tongue-in-cheek video that a lot of people are taking way too seriously.
And did you watch the Chuck Norris video that wasn’t, in fact, tongue-in-cheek? Any comment on that?
What disgusts me is people who completely disregard and insult half the population of their country simply because they disagree with their political view.
As a non-American, I’m astounded that so many people claim to love America, but seem to hate half the people IN America.
Half the population isn’t a liberal (or a conservative for that matter). And, stop with the hyperbole.
Hyperbole? You think what’s going on in your country is hyperbole?
“God Hollywood disgusts me, and I’m a Movie Director…”
And I trust you were also disgusted when Clint Eastwood had his public meltdown at the RNC?
Well, Mr. “movie director”, given your penchant for reducing people into crayon stick figures and big, broad, uninteresting cliches, I imagine your actors must hang on your every word.
A lot of people in the industry do so much to help the less fortunate and that is commendable. But our industry revenues are down mostly because of the terrible economy and it would make sense to elect a president who will improve the economy (more income) so everyone can do more to help others.
What a stupid, arrogant comment. All liberals are clueless? Like your mental giant candidate Sarah Palin wasn’t?
Clueless? What does that even mean in this context? That Whedon actually believes in zombies, so he’s clueless? Or that just generally, you throw out an allegation without bothering to make a cogent analysis as to why you believe liberals are clueless? So just another rant? At least Whedon is funny. You’re a crybaby. But in your eyes, who needs facts or analysis? After all, your guy simply claims without offering any serious plan that he will create 12 million jobs! He will somehow miraculously fill a $5 trillion dollar budget hole he will create! (Bbut who needs silly details how?)! You’re the clueless one, my friend.
WANKER…..
I like Joss Whedon (despite never actually having met the man). He’s witty to a fault.
I don’t (and I have). And if he is witty to a fault, that wouldn’t be his only (or, even, his largest) fault.
I hope Mr Whedon realizes that 95% of Americans don’t have a clue who he is. The 5% that do know him are likely liberals and will be voting for Obama anyway. So what exactly he was trying to achieve (other than waste two minutes if my life) I have no idea.
It’s a little comedy sketch about the 2012 election and zombies, two things that are pretty big right now. I also doubt 5% American know who he is, maybe 2% at most.
He did just direct a billion dollar movie, I feel like that boosts your name recognition
No, no, you’re wrong. John Swedon directed AVENGERS.
I say not even 1% know who he is. Steven Spielberg. George Lucas. Michael Bay. Hitchcock. Those are the only four directors (purely director, not actors who direct) that 10%+ of the public know by name.
Hey buddy. 100% of Americans don’t know and don’t care who you are. So why are YOU wasting our time with your posts? I have no idea.
What was he trying to achieve?
The never-ending Hollywood circle-jerk – where everyone is constantly trying to tell each other just how wonderful they are so that they can get their next job.
Spoken like someone bitter to be out of the circle.
If liberals spent half as much time trying to figure out ways to help people as they did being smart asses and running ads like this Obama wouldn’t be having the problems he’s currently having.
Who exactly is this for? Oh ya, other liberals. Good luck with that strategy.
And if conservatives stopped spending so much time worrying about making rich people richer, stomping out the gay menace, and making sure that every woman blessed by rape carried the pregnancy to completion, liberals would have a lot less to make jokes about.
As it stands, the only gold the Republicans are spinning is comedy gold.
Joss is truly witty and smart. His scripts are great, I believe he’s top’s in the game right now, so congrats Joss. But, like your scripts this spoof is full of nothing but made up fiction. It’s tiring to keep reading comments that promote “THE LIE” The misinformationthe, belief to some, that conservatives support:
the Rich (So is the concept for me to be working 16 hour days for the pursuit of poverty??) support corporations (REAL CONSERVATIVES BELIEVE Corporation and Unions are EVIL, and support INDIVIDUAL LIBERTIES which includes small businesses at the core of this believe (BTW every studio making joss’ films are THE LARGEST EVIL CORPORATION) I challenge Joss to refuse to work for those EVIL CORPORATIONS, take a stand for your beliefs instead of making funny sardonic youtube videos (BTW Making Google a lot of $$) Conservatives support Rape???(I am pro LIFE, not pro rape, PLEASE ADOPT CHILDREN) Against Gays? (Are you typing on a PCjr? Coleco ADAM? or something made by Tandy… Because the GAY CARD is about as outdated)
Yeah, that’s pretty much the response I expected, misreading what I said and casting your own aspersions onto it bolster your own ideas. You’re a shining beacon of your party. Besides, how many videos have both sides and both supporters made that have been shown on YouTube, thereby generating cash for Google? The liberal side of the coin gets more play because, you know, it plays better than an old guy talking to a chair. Liberals are generally funnier people. Conservatives are generally better sources of comedy.
A couple points:
1. At no point did I say conservatives were pro-rape. I said that they wanted people “blessed by rape” to keep their kids. As you screamed about pro-life, you supported my claim.
2. So saying that marriage is only something that should occur between a man and a woman isn’t anti-gay? How does THAT work?
I can only assume that feelings about gay marriage and abortions stem back to some kind of religious thing, which essentially means people putting more stock in mythology than basic human dignity. And that…is just sad.
The said thing is, Max, that these people cannot be reasoned with at all. They think the earth is less than 10,000 years old, that rape is ok, that women should be subservient and likely wear veils (which is ironic since they claim that Muslims are their biggest enemy), that the rich are job creators rather than the evil old men that they are, and that gay people are immoral and shouldn’t have the same rights as them even though a lot of the most vocal anti-gay conservatives are closeted homosexuals/pedophiles.
Our problem as liberals is that we continue to try to have a dialogue with them. Might as well try to convince that rock in your back yard that it’s water.
I love when people come out lamenting about how REAL conservatives are anti-corporation. Really? Because the Republican Party platform doesn’t agree.
Don’t think I agree with your politics but I thank you for the Coleco Adam reference. You gave me an instant flashback to the 7th grade when I was writing programs on my Coleco Adam. Loved that computer.
If conservatives spent as much time helping people like the bible says they’re supposed to maybe they wouldn’t be so reviled by the “47%.” Who are they supposed to be, oh yeah hypocrites.
Why don’t you google which Group donates the most charitable donations in the world. DIng.
Christians
Duh. That’s only because churches are designated at tax-exempt. If you added that filter and examined who gives to actual charitable organizations (those doing public service work), I have a feeling the demographic might be far different.
This whole election is about mobilizing the party bases, not converting people to one side or another. There are nothing buts ads made by liberals for liberals, or vice versa
Stay out of it whedon you are not as cool or smart as you think.
It is safe to say, he is pretty cool
Despite having avoided “Buffy” and “Dollhouse” like ebola, lately, well, Joss has done a coupla laudable things. At ComicCon, he compared our present situation as a lot like Tsarist Russia. Which is more true than not. Now this smug, informed, ironic, sarcastic skit. Which is funny. And true. So now he’s 90% redeemed in my eyes. And “Firefly” gets better on repeated viewings. Really. It does.
“I hope Mr Whedon realizes that 95% of Americans don’t have a clue who he is. ”
@You’re not funny, Joss, You’re wrong about that. The huge success of The Avengers has made Joss famous.
Yep and Deadline.com has 100 million monthly readers, so that 33% of the population could even find out who directed the Avengers….
…eh, more like 6 million people (maybe) read Deadline and its competitors, so that would be about 2% of the population who are film-fans enough to give a rat’s a** about who *directed* the Avengers…we are talking about an army of 12 to 16 year old’s here – I’m sure they are big on auteur theory…
…now, if we were talking about Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog…
It’s a fricking YouTube video, not a Super Bowl commercial. Please un-bunch your panties.
True … not a SB commercial… but this could easily get 10-12 million views in 3-4 days. Some of those might be votes that will decide the election.
Those saying he is preaching to the choir clearly don’t understand that both campaigns are actively trying to ensure turnout amongst their base. It was discussed on both Meet the Press and This Week today.
this is why i have always loved him.
If Josh Whedon’s kitchen is really that small we need a new president.
Funny.
Hey Joss–50 percent shorter, 75 percent funnier.
Yes!Good job, Joss Whedon, as always. Very smart.
As a movie director, an artist and someone who probably understands basic concepts of marketing, you probably should realize that allowing a government full of bigotry and religious zealots, and allowing a party who allows to be represented to the public eye by monsters like Ann Coulter or a Potential VP who pose as an idiotic fratboy, will lead to absolutely no good. If their marketing and PR teams are that screwed, I can only imagine what they would do reality hits the fan. That unless you are about to direct Atlas Shrugged part XX.
I’m not a member of any political party, so I’m not politically biased. Nevertheless, that video wasn’t funny. I expect better from Whedon.
Looooooove Whedon. But always have to laugh when I think of the post-apocalyptic DOLLHOUSE episode where one character said “Move and I’ll send you back to the Bush years!” Right. Let’s think about that. Characters in a post apocalyptic shit hole (not too many years removed from 2010, Barack, etc) with no food, water or police (or proper memories, for that matter) insinuating that being sent back to the Bush years is a threat. Let me just say if that is our future I’d take the quickest means available back to the tame in comparison Bush years.
That was so clever I think it went over the haters’ heads. And it appears that he did it in one long take. Wow. Excellent, Joss.
I expect Whedon, who has made some of the most creative shows in Hollywood to be a little more of an independent thinker and not be so predictably boring and support Obama like most everyone else in Hollywood.
Right, he came to his political convictions because of peer pressure.
Smart man, sarcastic but sadly in tune. Joss- you hurt the small-minded with humor infected with reality, the deepest cut by all accounts. LOVE…..
Shut up and direct! If you would spend as much attention to “Avengers 2″ as you did to this skit, it would be almost finished by now.
Why do so many movie hating conservatives read this Website? If you can’t stand the whole entertainment industry I would highly recommend You go to Fox news. You will have a much better time there!
Cute, Joss, but I don’t need you telling me how to vote. Just like I don’t need Trump or Grover Norquist telling me either.
Keep making your cute little sci-fi pictures and stop acting like you are a political pundit. You are not. Just like Streisand and Moore are not.
And lest you think I am a Republican, I DAMN sure don’t want Rush Limbaugh, Karl Rove, FOX News, Dennis Miller, or any RIght-Wing talking head telling me how to vote either.
Save your money and your breath. I am not a “low-information voter” (2012-speak for easily-manipulated moron). I s=study, read, decide, and vote. And I don’t care what any celeb tells me to do.
“David” doth protest too much.
But that doesn’t mean he’s wrong. Whedon has zero credibility with regards to the election. No one really cares what he thinks. Now, if he was trying to make a comedy piece, he missed his target.
Both Liberals & Conservatives like to have the luxury of hiding behind the “badge” of their party when espousing rhetoric and so-called beliefs. The unfortunate truth about Liberals that I’ve observed in 20+ years is that I’ve worked in the Entertainment Business is that their behavior bares NO resemblance to the rhetoric they espouse. I’ve witnessed a Sr. VP of a major studio claiming to be a “socialist.” She had cleared over $1M after bonus that year yet her assistant made $500 a week even though she was in the office before her boss and stayed well after her boss left. It wasn’t “magical elves” that made the casting lists I asked to have emailed to me before my breakfast meetings. What kind of socialism is that?
Or one of my favorites: during my time as an agent, there’d be clients would thankfully would start reaping the rewards of their talent and hard work so they’d decide to hire an assistant. These assistants would be paid around $45,000 if they’re lucky. An individual making $8 – $10M a year is not a struggling business; it’s a corporation. Why would its “second-in-command” who has the keys to their boss’s house & car, his/her credit cards, ATM card, checkbook, plus reading every project that gets sent over be paid a pittance? Never mind health insurance should they get sick.
In a town that runs on “interns,” please tell me how it makes sense to support “raising the minimum wage?” The reason agencies, production companies, etc. use interns is that they can’t AFFORD to pay these workers minimum wage to begin with!
So, we can all wax philosophically about the platforms of Democrats and Republicans while poking fun at Romney or questioning Obama’s citizenship but, isn’t all just a way to fog how unfairly we conduct our own lives?
None of this is funny. I’ve voted across party lines on several occassions. Our options are rarely ideal. Motives range from entirely self-serving to what’s believed to be in the best interest of the American people. But the fact
that so many people’s sense of right and wrong, integrity, fairness and championship for the greater good has deteriorated enough to vote for an ambitious man who has not one conviction -or political position – that he’s fully commited to, who feels so entitled to the presidency that it’s somehow OK that voters are forced to make that decision with 8 -10 years less financial transparency and relevant information than what he himself demanded in order to properly vet a running mate; who presents himself as a qualified leader of “the greatest nation on earth” but is unwilling to support equal pay for women and has no problem supporting the Blunt Amendment; who would overturn Roe v. Wade, de-fund Planned Parenthood – that provides life-saving care to millions of women in this country – as he eradicates a nationwide healthcare program modeled after one that he spent years researching the well documented public health benefits of. This is a man so comfortable with serving up fiction as fact that he’d advise the good people of Ohio – and the nation – that Jeep is moving their jobs to China and never bother to correct himself or his record on the subject.
This man, so clearly disinterested in true public service or social responsibility, has demonstrated a superior knack for self enrichment and the well-being of his family, peers and investors, but easily turns his back on many, many more than the 47% he’s willing to admit to harboring contempt for in closed quarters.
So, the fact that this election is as “tied”as it appears to be and that Joss Whedon’s voice can be vilified at any level is pretty un-funny…and much more than frightening. It brings about several questions about our collective short memory when it comes to the wreckless and arrogant “leadership” that this country endured under the last self-entitled president with a penchant for taking care of “his own” with a way too casual relationship to the truth that cost many young lives and limbs, “blood and treasure” and the respect of leaders and citizens all over the world.
President Obama may have mistakenly believed that he could bring us out of the tailspin we were in much sooner than was even remotely possible, but until we can all stop worshiping wealth as the ultimate success and deny our votes to ambitious people with their own costly entitlement complexes and shape shifting ways, we’re selling our country and its future short.
Wow. Has everyone here lost their minds? It’s a fricking JOKE. Lighten up.
