I’m reading a THR piece reporting that Liam Neeson‘s Taken 2 paycheck is $10 million, up from the $1 million he received for the original. They’ve shortchanged the strapping Irishman on both counts. He’ll make more than double that when the film is done in worldwide theaters. I’ve heard Neeson got paid $12 million upfront for Taken 2, (he got $2 million for the first). And since that $12 million sequel paycheck was an advance against a comparable percentage of gross, Neeson stands to make a heckuva lot more for the special set of skills he possesses. The $45 million-budget sequel grossed $49.5 million in its opening weekend, and has already hit $117 million worldwide, according to Rentrak.
If Neeson isn’t in a gross-collecting position yet, he will be shortly. All of this happened, you’ll recall, because Neeson didn’t want to do the second film, and walked away from the bargaining table. He finally agreed to do the movie, under his terms. Just saying no put him in an enviable bargaining position. They are making noises about trying to mount Taken 3, but I would be surprised if Neeson does another. After making more here than on any film in his long career, Neeson can afford to be choosy and if he wants to do a sequel, how about Love Actually 2?
The other mind-blowing thing about Neeson: who would have guessed that after The Grey and the Taken films, he would become Hollywood’s hottest action star at age 60?

Two words: great agenting.
Congrats.
and great attorney!
Lucky bastard!!!
When is Schindler’s List 2 coming out?
Hahaha
No question: the worldwide studio level gross across all rights will be more than the required $100 million. But Taken 2 was sold to independents foreign, and Liam’s backend structure may not work the same way overseas. So his take may be less than if Fox was distributing worldwide. But he’ll get overages, no doubt.
Rob Roy 2 please.
He better say yes to Taken 3, or I know people with a particular set of skills who will find him and will sign him up for it.
Long live Bryan Mills. John McLane, you’ve got company.
certainly he must of made some nice coin from Star Wars Ep 1?
SE, are you insane? John Mclane you have company? Have you seen this movie? I love Liam but the only thing that gets taken here is your money. It’s awful (the first one was great) How can this be a franchise? Who gets taken next? His Aunt? His cat? His gardner? C’mon!
Yea but Die Hard 2 was pretty bad also.
Have not seen Taken 2 yet, but will be doing so soon. Seems the smart move would have been to spend more time on the Mills’ character ex-partners (they showed up in the beginning of the first film) and develop a few of them further, so if Liam says no, those characters can be spun into a third film. Easy to add some new faces to this crowd that could potentially carry a film on their own.
Liam Neeson’s always been hot. He just seems to get better with age.
Actually, I’m surprised that it took so long for him to get the “action tough guy” roles. He’s a physically big man with a commanding presence and unlike a lot of the male-model types who populate a lot of Hollywood action movies he looks like he could go into a fist-fight without screaming “not the face!” and running away.
How about The Mission 2 ?
WTF – Are YOU kidding? Taken 2 was even better than the first one. You have that little of an imagination not to jump right to: The two son’s of the father will be back for revenge. Duh! They practically telegraphed it in the 2nd movie. And Liam is awesome in it. Not your typical action movie – smart enough to put a powerful family element in it that everyone can relate to – ESPECIALLY WOMEN! Who by the way typically aren’t your demo for action movies. Women love this guy – mixed with family conflict and saving the day — please. It’s a no-brainer.
I sense you’re connected to one of The Taken’s film competitors and you’re simply trying to sway the readers. Let’s see – 12 readers think the movie is great, 1 (you) thinks the movie takes your money. Speaks for itself, doesn’t it? But hey — you’re entitled to your opinion, young bitter WTF (big surprise you used that handle)!
Taken 3-D this time Bryan Mills takes YOU right from your theater seat!
If they do a third how about a plot that involves Bryan Mills & his friends that have been in both films ? A rescue that shows all their skills. Just a thought….
How about an hour and a half of them BBQing and “bro”ing out? I was hoping the sequel would bring the team back but it was just the obligatory cookout scene again.
next of kin 2
get paid while you can, the studios make it back in the long run, they always do. don’t know the man, but damn happy for any artist who gets the big bucks.
I’m hoping for Darkman 2 – he was great in the first.
Take the f’ing elephant!
He is hot at 60!! Take a hint Hollywood!!!!!!!!!!!!!
60 is the new 40!!
Would love to see him in a movie where he has a leading lady over 30!! That would be a first too.
